Generalized Homogeneity Of Finite And Of Countable Topological Spaces, J. J. Charatonik, W. J. Charatonik

Finite and countable topological spaces are investigated which are homogeneous, homogeneous with respect to open mappings or with respect to continuous ones. It is shown that for finite spaces all three concepts of homogeneity coincide, while for countable or for uncountable ones they are distinct. Some characterization of countable spaces that are homogeneous in either sense are found for the metric setting.

This thesis introduces a proposed C language binding definition for the International standards Organization's draft international standard of the Graphical Kernel System-JD. This work augments the earlier C language binding of the two-dimensional version of the Graphical Kernel System commonly known as GKS. The proposed function interface will provide a basis for, if not a final, C language binding for the three-dimensional version of the Graphical Kernel System.

This Paper Describes a Representation Scheme Which Simplifies Much of the Geometry of the Game. using This Representation, We Develop a Prolog Program Which Will Play Sprouts. It is Hoped that the Program Will Prove to Be a Useful Research Tool in Finding the Key to a Winning Strategy for Sprouts and that the Representation Will Serve as a Useful Model for Studying Planar Graphs.

Conclusions - A compound (mixed) Poisson distribution is sometimes used as an alternative to the Poisson distribution for count data. Such a compound distribution, which has a negative binomial form, occurs when the population consists of Poisson distributed individuals, but with intensities which have a gamma distribution. A similar situation can occur with a repairable system when failure intensities of each system are different. A more general situation is considered where the system failures are distributed according to nonhomogeneous Poisson processes having Power Law intensity functions with gamma distributed intensity parameter. On Weighted Integrability Of Trigonometric Series And L¹-Convergence Of Fourier Series, William O. Bray, Caslav V. Stanojević

Result concerning integrability of f(x)L(l/x)(g(x)L(l/x)), where f(x)(g(x)) is the pointwise limit of certain cosine (sine) series and L(•) is slowly vary in the sense of Karamata [5] is proved. Our result is an excludedďcase in more classical results (see [4]) and also generalizes a result of G. A. Fomin [1]. Also a result of Fomin and Telyakovskii [6] concerning L1-convergence of Fourier series is generalized. Both theorems make use of a generalized notion of quasi-monotone sequences. © 1986 American Mathematical Society.

This paper is concerned with functions of several complex variables analytic in the unit polydisc. Certain Banach spaces to which these functions might belong are defined and some relationships between them are developed. The space of linear functionals for the Banach space of functions analytic in the open unit polydisc and continuous on the unit torus is then described in terms of analytic functions using an extension of the Hadamard product.

Much of the recent work on modeling repairable systems involves Poisson processes with nonconstant intensity functions, viz, nonhomogeneous Poisson processes. Since times between failures are not identically distributed when the process is nonhomogeneous, it is not clear what concept should take the place of the mean time between failures in assessing the reliability of a repairable system. A number of alternate concepts can be found in the literature. We investigate the relationship between two of the most frequently considered alternatives: the reciprocal of the intensity function, and the mean waiting time from t until the next failure. In an attempt to control defense software costs while maintaining system reliability, the DOD (Department of Defense) has sponsored the development of a new programming language, called Ada. While Ada supports many of the features found in Fortran and Pascal, it has additional features making it easier and more reliable to use in large complex engineering software systems. Currently, the DOD is requiring that many new defense software systems be written in Ada. The author reviews the history of Ada's development and examines the primary constructs of the language. This dissertation investigates various related topics around the exciting concept: "Infinite Divisibility." First, two intricate distributions, namely, the univariate generalized Waring and the hyper-Poisson are proved to be infinitely and noninfinitely divisible, respectively. Analysis and computer approaches are employed. This itself extends the use of some results introduced by Katti, Steutel and Warde. Secondly, generalizations to Warde, Katti and Steutel's sufficient conditions and related results are achieved. Then, numerical application is presented. Thirdly, characterizations through infinite and finite divisibility are obtained. The Poisson, negative binomial, geometric, Bernoulli and uniform c haracterizations in terms of infinite divisibility are deduced. Some of …

Sequential probability ratio tests for the shape parameter of one or more nonhomogeneous Poisson processes, with power intensity functions, are provided. The tests can be performed when the scale parameter is an unknown nuisance parameter; the effective loss of not knowing the scale parameter is one observation per process. The resulting tests can be expressed in terms of the maximum likelihood estimators of the shape parameters for the usual fixed sample procedure. A further advantage of the present approach is that the scale parameters for different processes, in the multiple sample procedures, need not be equal. Approximations for the operating …

It is shown that the Fomin class FP (1
< 2) is a subclass of C ∩ B V, where C is the Garrett-Stanojevic class and B V the class of sequences of bounded variation. Wider classes of Fourier and Fourier-Stieltjes series are found for which an lg n - o(1), n → ∞, is a necessary and sufficient condition for L1-convergence. For cosine series with coefficients in B V and n∆an = 0(1), n → ∞, necessary and sufficient integrability conditions are obtained. © 1981 American Mathematical Society.

The problem of determining when a given discrete flow on a topological space is embeddable in some continuous flow was mentioned by G. R. Sell ("Topological Dynamics and Ordinary Differential Equations," Van Nostrand, New York, 1971) in his book on topological dynamics. In this book, the theory of generalized dynamical systems is exploited in the qualitative study of differential equations. Even more complicated is the problem of simultaneously embedding two or more discrete flows in a single continuous flow. We examine both of these problems when the underlying topological space is the space R of the real numbers. © 1980.
