Micro-Mechanism Of Geological Sequestration Of Co2 In Coal Seam, Yao Yanbin, Sun Xiaoxiao, Wan Lei
Coal Geology & Exploration
The geological sequestration of CO2 in coal seam is a most promising carbon storage technology, which can help achieve the dual goals of CO2 emission reduction and coalbed methane stimulation. Compared with other sealing geological bodies, coal has extremely well-developed micropores. The mechanism of geological sequestration of CO2 in coal seam is closely related to the interaction of coal-gas-water. However, its internal influence mechanism is still unclear. Herein, the models of macromolecular structure and plat pore of the coals were constructed based on the systematic coal petrological analysis and testing of two bituminous coal samples. Meanwhile, the …

Characteristics And Formation Mechanisms Of Microstructures In Coal Treated With Co2 Phase Transition Fracturing, Cao Yunxing, Zhang Xinsheng, Zhang Junsheng, Guo Shuaifang, Meng Bingbing
Coal Geology & Exploration
CO2 phase transition fracturing (CPTF) is a newly developed technique for coal mine gas control and is characterized by high efficiency, high coal seam permeability, a high gas drainage rate, and outburst elimination. The core of CPTF is reinforced fracturing and the pressure-relief and permeability-enhancement effects of coal seams under high-pressure dynamic loading. Nevertheless, there is a lack of studies on the morphological characteristics and formation mechanisms of newly formed fractures. Current observation and description of the underground fractures on a centimeter-meter scale primarily aim to reveal the fracturing and permeability-enhancement mechanisms of low-permeability coal seams. However, the study …

Structure Optimization And Coal Breaking Effect Of Air Jet Nozzle For Post-Mixed Abrasive, Yang Heng, Wei Jianping, Cai Yubo, Zhang Lulu, Liu Yong
Coal Geology & Exploration
Hydraulic pressure relief and penetration enhancement technology plays an important role in coal seam gas hozard control, but it is easy to lead to dynamic phenomena such as hole collapse, drill holding and hole spraying during its application in the soft coal seams. Non-hydraulic pressure relief and penetration enhancement is one of the feasible technologies to break through the bottleneck of efficient gas extraction technology in soft coal seams. To this end, the post-mixed abrasive air jet coal breaking and pressure relief technology was proposed with the efficient coal breaking capability of abrasive air jet. Specifically, the abrasive and air …

Coal Geology & Exploration
The occurrence of dynamic disasters in mines, such as rock bursts, is affected by multiple factors and is the result of the coupling of the natural geological dynamic environment and mining engineering disturbances. The characteristics of rock bursts including their time, space, and intensity are related to the regional geological dynamic environment of mines. Different coal fields, mining areas, and mines have different regional geological dynamic environments. Accordingly, some coal mines do not have a geological dynamic environment of rock bursts, while some are subjected to different types of rock bursts. This study proposed an evaluation method for the geological …

Independent Study Project (ISP) Collection
The green energy transition is moving ahead in EU countries at very different paces, and there are some key challenges that all regions currently face in trying to phase fossil fuels out of their energy mixes. One of these challenges is that most regions simply cannot harness enough renewable energy sources and simultaneously have the storage technology for creating a baseload power source as reliable as oil, coal and natural gas. That is, unless you sit in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean on the boundary of three tectonic plates, with a continuous and reliable renewable energy source beneath your …

Diagnostic Gold Deportment Studies And Leaching Behaviour Of Small-Scale Gold Mining Tailings From Eastern Region, Ghana, Ishmael Quaicoe, Martin Beyuo, Solomon Quaicoe, Nikao A. Lasidzi
Journal of Sustainable Mining
Artisanal and small-scale gold mining (ASGM) sector employs about 80% of the mining workforce but only contributes about 20-30% of Ghana’s gold production. The low gold production is linked to low recoveries associated with the activities because ofinadequate understanding of the chemical, mineralogical and metallurgical characteristics of the ores. This study examined the metallurgical characteristics of typical small-scale gold mining tailings to understand their grinding characteristics, gold deportment and cyanidation behaviour. The gold deportment results showed that 96.1% of the gold in the samples is free milling (can be leached directly with cyanide and recovered through carbon adsorption), whilst the …

Research On Aquifer Water Abundance Evaluation By Borehole Transient Electromagnetic Method Based On Fcnn, Cheng Jiulong, Wang Huijie, Xu Zhongzhong, Huang Qisong, Jiang Guoqing
Coal Geology & Exploration
Predicting the location and water abundance of aquifers by drilling or geophysical methods before tunneling is very important to prevent water disasters in advance for the safety of coal mine production. The use of borehole transient electromagnetic method (BTEM) for advanced detection has obvious advantages. At present, the interpretation method is based on the calculated resistivity to qualitatively analyze rock water abundance, and it is impossible to predict the aquifer water abundance grade. So, the fully convolutional neural network (FCNN) method is proposed to predict the aquifer water abundance grade for BTEM. Firstly, according to the Archie formula, Kozeny-Carman formula, …

Challenges And Solutions To High-Resolution Data Processing For Seismic Exploration, Cao Siyuan, Sun Yaoguang, Chen Siyuan
Coal Geology & Exploration
The seismic resolution has long been limited to the quarter wavelength. To compress the seismic wavelet, the key problems are signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and resolution in early stages, and high resolution and high fidelity in late stages. Meanwhile, by using well data, many inversion methods of spanning quarter wavelength have been developed. The success of these methods depends on the preservation of seismic wave amplitude, the accuracy of seismic interpretation, and the compatibility between well data and seismic data. Afterward, researchers achieved seismic inversion without well data constraint, and the corresponding resolution reached the level of reflectivity. Meanwhile, the key …

From 1d To 4d: Advances And Thoughts On Coal Seismic Technology, Cheng Jianyuan, Zhang Xianxu, Jiang Bici, Wang Pan, Shan Rui
Coal Geology & Exploration
As one of the key technologies for safe and efficient support of coalmine geology, the seismic technology, has gone through one-dimensional (1D), two-dimensional (2D), and three-dimensional (3D), and progressed from resource exploration to mining area exploration, and from structural exploration to lithological exploration. The latest 4D seismic will further leapfrog from static detection to dynamic detection. Based on the concepts of time-space dimensions and the four seismic development stages, we propose three transitional stages from 1.5D (e.g., non-zero offset VSP), 2.5D (e.g., wide line 2D seismic exploration) to 3.5D (e.g., 3D seismic dynamic interpretation), and also present the time-space characteristics …

Coal Geology & Exploration
The shallow coal resources in North China have been nearly depleted so far, whereas deep coal development is challenged by karst water inrush in floor limestone. The conventional underground vertical hole grouting methods are troubled with inappropriate site location, thin drilling-met aquifer, large grouting blind area, and inaccurate target location. For this reason, we propose an advance regional control technology: bedding directional drilling-based grouting. We systematically study the slurry flow from near-horizontal grouting holes, advance grouting modes, grouting parameter control, advance identification of potential water diversion channels, as well as validation and assessment of a grouting treatment. On this basis, …
