Mineralogical, textural and chemical changes of ultramafic rocks in response to regional deformation and metamorphism are, at best, imperfectly known (Miyashiro, 1973, p. 30). In Vermont, which has an extremely prominent and well-exposed belt of ultramafics (fig. 1), investigation of these rocks has largely been directed toward such processes as serpentinization, steatitization, and the formation of metasomatic zones at the contacts with country rocks. With few exceptions, there is a lack of detailed descriptions of regional metamorphic textures, mineralogy, and structures developed in the Vermont ultramafic rocks. Biostratigraphy Of The Type Yamhill Formation, Polk County, Oregon, Larry R. Gaston

One hundred and seventy-four species and varieties of fossil Foraminifera are recorded from thirty-eight localities in the Siletz River Volcanics, Yamhill and Nestucca Formations exposed along Mill and Gooseneck Creeks, in the Northern Coast Range of Oregon. Marginulina holmesi is described as new. The Foraminifera indicate that this sequence was deposited during late Ulatisian and Narizian time, in marine waters at bathyal or lower neritic depths, with cool surface temperatures. The Yamhill Formation can be correlated with Moody Shale member of the Toledo Formation and the Coaledo Formation of Oregon; the McIntosh and Aldwell Formations of Washington; and the upper …

The Pierre-Niobrara Unconformity In Western Nebraska, Harold M. Degraw

Conservation and Survey Division: Faculty and Staff Publications

The Pierre-Niobrara unconformity, one of several significant unconformities in the Cretaceous System of the Western Interior region, has not generally been recognized. Detailed correlation of electric logs of a large number of wells in western Nebraska provides evidence of its existence. Isopach maps of the beds occupying three identifiable stratigraphic intervals - a redefined Niobrara Formation, an unnamed uppermost Niobrara unit, and an unnamed basal Pierre unit, which includes the Ardmore Bentonite - provide recognizable geologic patterns that permit reconstruction of the stages of development of the unconformity.
