A Proposed Method For Classifying And Evaluating Soils On The Basis Of Productivity And Use Suitabilities, Arthur Anderson, A. P. Nelson, F. A. Hayes, I. D. Wood

Nebraska Agricultural Experiment Station: Historical Research Bulletins

It is the object of this paper to present a method for classifying and evaluating the soils as mapped in regular soil surveys on the basis of land types, which are here defined as areas having reasonably similar productivity and use suitabilities. The standards used to differentiate land types will vary according to the desired objectives, but any material difference in yield, or in practices necessary to maintain a desirable level of productivity will justify recognition of land types. The proposed procedure involves a more detailed study of the influence which soils, slope, erosion, and drainage have on specific crops …

The Relation Of Drouth To Water-Use In Nebraska, G. E. Condra

George E. Condra Publications

Three severe drouths have occurred in Nebraska and adjacent states within the past eighty years, and less severe ones have come at moderately regular intervals. Their influence on the agricultural development of the state is well known, but their relation to water supply in general is not so well understood. This paper is a brief review of the relation of drouth to soil moisture, surace water, and groundwater supplies.

Oxygen is the first immediate necessity of life and water is second. Both directly and indirectly and more than soil, water is our most basic resource. It is the universal solvent and without it there would be no life, and, of course, no agriculture and industry.

Nebraska Facts, Walter Kollmorgen

Conservation and Survey Division: Faculty and Staff Publications

Nebraska Facts, compiled by Walter Kollmorgen in the 1930s for the Conservation and Survey Division of the University of Nebraska, presents a concise statistical and descriptive overview of the state of Nebraska during the early twentieth century. The publication synthesizes data on Nebraska’s geography, climate, natural resources, agriculture, industry, transportation infrastructure, public health, and education. Emphasis is placed on the state’s agricultural productivity, manufacturing capacity, and favorable economic indicators, reflecting Nebraska’s role as a leading contributor to national food production and livestock markets during this period. The work also highlights public institutions, including the capitol building and the University …

Tree Planting In Nebraska

Conservation and Survey Division: Faculty and Staff Publications

Introduction. This bulletin is planned to further the planting of trees and ornamental shrubbery in Nebraska. It is the result of cooperation between State, Federal, and University departments, and many State organizations.

The tree-planting campaign of this year (1928) is to begin early in the season and culminate in the American Forest Week (last week in April). It is a State and National movement, a welfare project worthy of the support of every citizen. The cooperation of all Nebraskans is invited.
