West Midlands Development : Farm Planning, G W. Spencer
West Midlands Development : Farm Planning, G W. Spencer
Journal of the Department of Agriculture, Western Australia, Series 4
FARM planning relates to the development and sub-division of a property in such a way that it is possible to obtain the safest, most efficient, and most practical use of every acre of land.
West Midlands Development : Erosion Prevention And Control, G W. Spencer
West Midlands Development : Erosion Prevention And Control, G W. Spencer
Journal of the Department of Agriculture, Western Australia, Series 4
THE prevention of soil erosion is essentially a matter of using each soil according to its potential, and treating it according to its needs.
Good land use and sound management practices are the best preventive measures.

West Midlands Development : Water Supplies In The West Midlands, I A F Laing
Journal of the Department of Agriculture, Western Australia, Series 4
IF it is practical and economic to develop both surface and underground supplies, the aim on each farm should be to provide half the farm water requirement from dams, and the other half from bores.
The Ord River Regeneration Project. 2. Dealing With The Problem, K Fitzgerald
The Ord River Regeneration Project. 2. Dealing With The Problem, K Fitzgerald
Journal of the Department of Agriculture, Western Australia, Series 4
THE PROGRAMME of protective and remedial work being undertaken in the Ord River catchment area had as its major objective the re-establishment of perennial vegetation, as a means of controlling erosion and reducing the silt load of the rivers. It is now in its seventh year of operation.

Rivers flowing to the Gulf of Carpentaria and the Timor Sea have been estimated by hydrologists to carry about three times the water transported annually over the Murray drainage system and the South Eastern slopes which, together, comprise the highly settled agricultural areas of South Eastern Australia.
In 1945, the North Australian Development Committee recommended research in the Ord-Victoria rivers region as a first step toward ultimate agricultural development of this Northern potential and, in 1946, the Kim- berley Research Station commenced operations under the joint control of the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization and the Western Australian Department …
The Effects Of Geographical And Climatic Setting On The Economic Advantages Of Alternative Flood Control Measures, Clyde R. Dempsey, L. Douglas James
The Effects Of Geographical And Climatic Setting On The Economic Advantages Of Alternative Flood Control Measures, Clyde R. Dempsey, L. Douglas James
KWRRI Research Reports
It has long been realized that tributary urban development and channel improvement greatly affect the flow regime in a given watershed. A previous study used the Stanford Watershed Model to derive relationships expressing how the flood peaks in Sacramento, California, might be expected to vary with changing conditions of urbanization, channelization, and tributary drainage area. In order to observe the effects of climatic setting and geographical location on these relationships, the same type of analysis was applied to a drainage area near Louisville, Kentucky.
If reservoir storage is to be considered in a flood control program, it is necessary to …
Multiple Cropping Will Increase The Erosion Hazard, W J. Burdass
Multiple Cropping Will Increase The Erosion Hazard, W J. Burdass
Journal of the Department of Agriculture, Western Australia, Series 4
WITH the low price of wool and the price of wheat high in comparison, farmers need little encouragement to increase their acreage of crops.
Unfortunately with increased cropping comes the risk of increased erosion—unless there is a simultaneous increase in the use of conservation practices.

Urban Geology—A Need And A Challenge, William J. Wayne
Urban Geology—A Need And A Challenge, William J. Wayne
Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences: Faculty Publications
Urban land uses are rapidly converting open land into intensively used land. Generally, in planning those uses, a comprehensive study has included everything except an evaluation of the land in three dimensions. Geologists are eminently well equipped to supply the missing data, but they must also be aware of the needs of the urban community and the kinds of information needed by planners if they are to write reports usable by planners. Urban and environmental geology is a newly expanding field in the use of geologic data to help solve some urban problems in the planning stage. It is likely …

Factors Controlling Porosity And Permeability In The Curdsville Member Of The Lexington Limestone, William C. Macquown Jr., Jimmie L. Barr, George T. Hine, Jojok Sumartojo, Edward V. Peck, Franklin D. Thomas
KWRRI Research Reports
Factors controlling the porosity and permeability of the Curdsville Limestone Member of the Lexington Limestone of Middle Ordovician Age in the Blue Grass Region of Kentucky are geological.
Microstratigraphic analysis had led to the division of the lower Lexington Limestone, consisting principally of the Curdsville Member into three beds which may be subdivided into "zones" made up of several lithologic types and sub-types. Lower, middle, and upper bed characteristics are helpful in determining the regional depositional history in the progressively transgressing Curdsville sea. Paleogeography of Curdsville time has been determined by delineation of two local facies: (1) a carbonate bank--shoal …

The Ord River Catchment Regeneration Project. 1. The Nature, Extent And Causes Of Erosion In The Ord River Catchment Area, K Fitzgerald
Journal of the Department of Agriculture, Western Australia, Series 4
OF the 17,800 square miles of Ord River catchment area, an estimated 1,450 square miles of country is subject to varying degrees of erosion.
This lies astride the Ord River and its major tributaries, the Elvire, Negri, Stirling, Panton, Turner, Nicholson and RB rivers.
The bulk of the eroded country lies in W.A. but part projects into the Northern Territory.

The Relationship Of Flooding And Saline Water Tables, Stanley Thomas Smith
The Relationship Of Flooding And Saline Water Tables, Stanley Thomas Smith
Journal of the Department of Agriculture, Western Australia, Series 4
IN Western Australia there are several ways in which salt manifests itself but the most serious and extensive of these is in the valley systems where shallow saline water tables occur.
This type of salt problem is called "valley waterlogging" and occurs in most of the flat valleys throughout the wheatbelt of W.A.
