We present a new ly developed scheme for automatical ly partitioning videos into scenes. A scene is general ly referred to as a group of shots taken place in the same site. In this paper, we first propose a motion annotation algorithm based on the analysis of spatiotemporal image volumes. The algorithm characterizes the motions within shots by extracting and analyzing the motion trajectories encoded in the temporal slices of image volumes. A motion-based keyframe computing and selection strategy is thus proposed to compactly represent the content of shots. With these techniques, we further present a scene change detection algorithm …

This paper describes an approach to characterize camera and object motions based on the analysis of spatio temporal image volumes. In the spatio-temporal slices of image volumes, motion is depicted as oriented patterns. We propose a tensor histogram computation algorithm to represent these oriented patterns. The motion trajectories in a histogram are tracked to describe both the camera and object motions. In addition, we exploit the similarity of the temporal slices in a volume to reliably partition a volume into motion tractable units.
Predictive Adaptive Resonance Theory And Knowledge Discovery In Databases, Ah-Hwee Tan, Hui-Shin Vivien Soon
Predictive Adaptive Resonance Theory And Knowledge Discovery In Databases, Ah-Hwee Tan, Hui-Shin Vivien Soon
Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems
This paper investigates the scalability of predictive Adaptive Resonance Theory (ART) networks for knowledge discovery in very large databases. Although predictive ART performs fast and incremental learning, the number of recognition categories or rules that it creates during learning may become substantially large and cause the learning speed to slow down. To tackle this problem, we introduce an on-line algorithm for evaluating and pruning categories during learning. Benchmark experiments on a large scale data set show that on-line pruning has been effective in reducing the number of the recognition categories and the time for convergence. Interestingly, the pruned networks also …

Global Positioning System (Gps) Error Source Prediction, Marcus G. Ferguson
Theses and Dissertations
With the initiation of the navigation accuracy prediction algorithm used to estimate the amount of GPS solution (location and time) error for receivers, the capability to accurately predict solution errors due to the major GPS error sources is growing. Although some sources of error within the GPS solution have been previously analyzed, modeled, and/or accounted for within various modeling efforts, a formal evaluation of the seven major error sources that distort GPS activity has not been officially conducted up until this point. This research offers a logical assessment of all the major GPS error sources and their definitive impact on …
Stochastic Modeling-Based Dgps Estimation Algorithm, James T. Broaddus
Stochastic Modeling-Based Dgps Estimation Algorithm, James T. Broaddus
Theses and Dissertations
A Kinematic Differential Global Positioning System (KDGPS) algorithm is developed. A number of mobile receivers is considered, one of which will be designated the reference station' which will have known position and velocity information at the beginning of the time interval examined. Satellite clock biases are used to model Selective Availability. The measurement situation on hand is properly modeled and a centralized estimation algorithm processing several epochs of data. The effect of uncertainty in the reference receiver's position and the level of receiver noise is examined. Monte Carlo simulations are performed to examine the ability of the algorithm to correctly …
Applications Of Fuzzy Logic To Software Model, Yahaya Yuhanim Hani
Applications Of Fuzzy Logic To Software Model, Yahaya Yuhanim Hani
Student Works (2000-2009)
This thesis investigates the use of fuzzy logic approach in software metrics application. Software metrics defines a standard way of measuring the properties of software products, development processes and resources. The most common application of software metrics is the software cost estimation where it predicts the effort required for completing certain stages of a software development life cycle. The ability to obtain an accurate effort prediction is essential for the cost estimation process, as it helps a project manager to specify the efforts needed for project development. In relation to this, cost estimation models such as COCOMO (Constructive Cost Model), …

The NIST Guide to Available Mathematical Software (GAMS) system at http://gams.nist .gov serves as the gateway to thousands of scientific codes and modules for numerical computation. We describe the PIPE personalization facility for GAMS, whereby content from the cross-index is specialized for a user desiring software recommendations for a specific problem instance. The key idea is to (i) mine structure, and (ii) exploit it in a programmatic manner to generate personalized web pages. Our approach supports both content-based and collaborative personalization and enables information integration from multiple (and complementary) web resources. We present case studies for the domain of linear, …
Factor Criteria Metric (Fcm) For Requirements Analysis Phase In The Development Of Management Information Systems, Wei Yin Chew
Factor Criteria Metric (Fcm) For Requirements Analysis Phase In The Development Of Management Information Systems, Wei Yin Chew
Student Works (2000-2009)
This project establishes a way to measure a characteristic of a product and a characteristic of a process involved in the requirements analysis phase for the development of management information systems (M!Ss) by adapting and enhancing McCall's Factor Criteria Metric (FCM) model. The two selected characteristics are the understandability of a software requirements specification (SRS) and effectiveness of a requirements gathering interview (RGI). To define the measurement for these two characteristics, a structure of factors, criteria, checklists and metrics for the characteristics of the products and processes is established based on McCall's FCM model. In addition, a software tool, FCMware, …
Vhdl Design And Simulation For Embedded Zerotree Wavelet Quantisation, Hung Huynh
Vhdl Design And Simulation For Embedded Zerotree Wavelet Quantisation, Hung Huynh
Theses : Honours
This thesis discusses a highly effective still image compression algorithm – The Embedded Zerotree Wavelets coding technique, as it is called. This technique is simple but achieves a remarkable result. The image is wavelet-transformed, symbolically coded and successive quantised, therefore the compression and transmission/storage saving can be achieved by utilising the structure of zerotree. The algorithm was first proposed by Jerome M. Shapiro in 1993, however to minimise the memory usage and speeding up the EZW processor, a Depth First Search method is used to transverse across the image rather than Breadth First Search method as initially discussed in Shapiro's …

Let R be an associative ring with identity 1 (not equal to) 0. An element x E R is said to be right (or left) regular if there exists yin R such that x² y = x (or y.x² = x). If x is both left and right regular, then it is said to be strongly regular. The ring R is said to be strongly regular if every element of R is strongly regular. We say that x is a left -π-regular element if there exist an integer n > 0 and an element y E R such that yx n+1 …
Development Of Object Oriented Components For Atm Network Simulation With Emphasis On Congestion Control, Wen Dee Lee
Development Of Object Oriented Components For Atm Network Simulation With Emphasis On Congestion Control, Wen Dee Lee
Student Works (2000-2009)
Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) provides the required flexibility for the support of heterogeneous services for Broadband Integrated Services Digital Networks (8-ISDN) environment. A TM has proven to be efficient and flexible in handling a wide range of integrated service traffic. The most outstanding feature of ATM is that it provides the Quality of Service (QoS) guarantees between connections. In a network environment, congestion control is an important factor to consider as to guarantee the negotiated QoS. To study, observe and develop the congestion control mechanism in an ATM network, simulation modelling provides the ideal domain. The aim of this project …

Development Of Object Oriented Components For Atm Network Simulation With Emphasis On Switch Architecture, Meng Kiat Gan
Student Works (2000-2009)
Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) is considered to be the foundation on which BISON is to be built. It is the new generation of communication protocol that being deployed throughout the telecommunication industry. An important component of this communication networks is the ATM switch whose basic functions are to direct cells from input port to output port and to buffer cell destined to the same output port from different input port. Understanding an ATM switch before building it, is a challenging task as one must consider the design of switching architecture and cell buffering at the same time. As the switching …
