In current Android architecture, users have to decide whether an app is safe to use or not. Expert users can make savvy decisions to avoid unnecessary private data breach. However, the majority of regular users are not technically capable or do not care to consider privacy implications to make safe decisions. To assist the technically incapable crowd, we propose a permission control framework based on crowdsourcing. At its core, our framework runs new apps under probation mode without granting their permission requests up-front. Factor Analysis of Information Risk (FAIR) is a standard model for quantitatively estimating cybersecurity risks and has been implemented as a sequential Monte Carlo simulation in the RiskLens and FAIR-U applications. Monte Carlo simulations employ random sampling techniques to model certain systems through the course of many iterations. Due to their sequential nature, FAIR simulations in these applications are limited in the number of iterations they can perform in a reasonable amount of time. Available security standards for RFID networks (e.g. ISO/IEC 29167) are designed to secure individual tag-reader sessions and do not protect against active attacks that could also compromise the system as a whole (e.g. tag cloning or replay attacks). Proper traffic characterization models of the communication within an RFID network can lead to better understanding of operation under “normal” system state conditions and can consequently help identify security breaches not addressed by current standards. Pseudo-random sequences are ubiquitous in modern electronics and information technology. High speed generators of such sequences play essential roles in various engineering applications, such as stream ciphers, radar systems, multiple access systems, and quasi-Monte-Carlo simulation. Given a short prefix of a sequence, it is undesirable to have an efficient algorithm that can synthesize a generator which can predict the whole sequence. Otherwise, a cryptanalytic attack can be launched against the system based on that given sequence.

We present a tele-immersive system that enables people to interact with each other in a virtual world using body gestures in addition to verbal communication. Beyond the obvious applications, including general online conversations and gaming, we hypothesize that our proposed system would be particularly beneficial to education by offering rich visual contents and interactivity. One distinct feature is the integration of egocentric pose recognition that allows participants to use their gestures to demonstrate and manipulate virtual objects simultaneously. Video self modeling (VSM) is a behavioral intervention technique in which a learner models a target behavior by watching a video of him- or herself. In the field of speech language pathology, the approach of VSM has been successfully used for treatment of language in children with Autism and in individuals with fluency disorder of stuttering. Non-independent reasoning (NIR) allows the information about one record in the data to be learnt from the information of other records in the data. Most posterior/prior based privacy criteria consider NIR as a privacy violation and require to smooth the distribution of published data to avoid sensitive NIR. In wireless sensor networks, an important issue of geographic routing is “local minimum” problem, which is caused by a “hole” that blocks the greedy forwarding process. Existing geographic routing algorithms use perimeter routing strategies to find a long detour path when such a situation occurs. To avoid the long detour path, recent research focuses on detecting the hole in advance, then the nodes located on the boundary of the hole advertise the hole information to the nodes near the hole. In this paper, we present invalid-curve attacks that apply to the hyperelliptic curve scalar multiplication (HECSM) algorithm proposed by Avanzi et al. on the genus 2 hyperelliptic curve over binary field. We observe some new properties of the HECSM. Our attacks are based on these new properties and the observation that the parameters f 0 and f 1 of the hyperelliptic curve equation are not utilized for the HECSM. We show that with different “values” for curve parameters f 0, f 1, there exsit cryptographically weak groups in the Koblitz hyperelliptic curve. Countless highly accurate predictions can be made from trace data, with varying degrees of personal or societal consequence (e.g., search engines predict hospital admission, gaming companies can predict compulsive gambling problems, government agencies predict criminal activity). Predicting human behavior can be both hugely beneficial and deeply problematic depending on the context. What kinds of predictive privacy harms are emerging? And what are the implications for systems of oversight and due process protections? With the increasing popularity of RGB-depth (RGB-D) sensors such as the Microsoft Kinect, there have been much research on capturing and reconstructing 3D environments using a movable RGB-D sensor. Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS) have become ubiquitous in the defense against virus outbreaks, malicious exploits of OS vulnerabilities, and botnet proliferation. As attackers frequently rely on host scanning for reconnaissance leading to penetration, IDS is often tasked with detecting scans and preventing them. However, it is currently unknown how likely an IDS is to detect a given Internet-wide scan pattern and whether there exist sufficiently fast scan techniques that can remain virtually undetectable at large-scale. We investigate the structure and cryptographic applications of the Discrete Lambert Map (DLM). The mapping is closely related to the Discrete Log Problem, but has received far less attention since it is considered to be a more complicated map that is likely even harder to invert. However, this mapping is quite important because it underlies the security of the ElGamal Digital Signature Scheme. Using functional graphs induced by this mapping, we were able to find non-random properties that could potentially be used to exploit the ElGamal DSS.

Personalization constitutes the mechanisms necessary to automatically customize information content, structure, and presentation to the end user to reduce information overload. Unlike traditional approaches to personalization, the central theme of our approach is to model a website as a program and conduct website transformation for personalization by program transformation (e.g., partial evaluation, program slicing).
