Pavement defects such as cracks, net cracks, and pit slots can cause potential traffic safety problems. The timely detection and identification play a key role in reducing the harm of various pavement defects. Particularly, the recent development in deep learning-based CNNs has shown competitive performance in image detection and classification. To detect pavement defects automatically and improve effects, a multi-scale mobile attention-based network, which we termed MANet, is proposed to perform the detection of pavement defects. The architecture of the encoder-decoder is used in MANet, where the encoder adopts the MobileNet as the backbone network to extract pavement defect features. …
Transformation And Abstraction To Aid Comparison Of Binary Executables Across Compilation Environments, Jeremy D. Seideman
Transformation And Abstraction To Aid Comparison Of Binary Executables Across Compilation Environments, Jeremy D. Seideman
Dissertations, Theses, and Capstone Projects
Binary analysis allows researchers to examine how programs are constructed and how they will impact an underlying system. The various analysis techniques allow the determination of code authorship, reuse, and similarity. Detecting code reuse is significant because code reuse can be a method for vulnerabilities and security issues to spread among software projects. In this work, we examine techniques that can aid in binary analysis, especially those that abstract and transform binaries, so that they can be compared across compilation environments, including possible changes in compiler version, hardware architecture, and compilation options. Historically, this has been difficult to accomplish since …
Algorithmic Bias: Causes And Effects On Marginalized Communities, Katrina M. Baha
Algorithmic Bias: Causes And Effects On Marginalized Communities, Katrina M. Baha
Undergraduate Honors Theses
Individuals from marginalized backgrounds face different healthcare outcomes due to algorithmic bias in the technological healthcare industry. Algorithmic biases, which are the biases that arise from the set of steps used to solve or analyze a problem, are evident when people from marginalized communities use healthcare technology. For example, many pulse oximeters, which are the medical devices used to measure oxygen saturation in the blood, are not able to accurately read people who have darker skin tones. Thus, people with darker skin tones are not able to receive proper health care due to their pulse oximetry data being inaccurate. This …

Robust Image Watermarking With Quaternion Fractional-Order Polar Harmonic-Fourier Moments Based On Wavelet Transformation: Resistance Against Rotation Attacks, Wang Jing, Ling Weay Ang, Sellappan Palaniappan, Bing He
Journal of Informatics and Web Engineering
This study presents a zero-watermarking algorithm that can resist rotation attacks. The algorithm uses quaternion fractional-order polar harmonic-Fourier moments (QFr-PHFMs) based on wavelet-transformation. First, the wavelet-transformation is applied to each component of the host image, which is in RGB three-channel color. The low-frequency sub-bands of each component are then extracted and represented using quaternion algebra. Multiple QFr-PHFMs are calculated, and the invariants of the QFr-PHFMs are utilized to establish the watermark system. The watermark extraction process is also simplified. The detection of the image requires a two-level wavelet transformation, followed by the calculation of multiple invariant moments of the low-frequency …

Edge Detection is one of the computationally intensive modules in image analysis. It is used to find important landmarks by identifying a significant change (or “edge”) between pixels and voxels. We present a hybrid Quantum Edge Detection method by improving three aspects of an existing widely referenced implementation, which for our use cases generates incomprehensible results for the type and size of images we are required to process. Our contributions are in the pre- and post-processing (i.e., classical phase) and a quantum edge detection circuit: (1) we use space- filling curves to eliminate image artifacts introduced by the image decomposition, …
