Milpbench: A Large-Scale Benchmark Test Suite For Mixed Integer Linear Programming Problems, Huigen Ye, Yaoyang Cheng, Hua Xu, Zhiguang Cao, Hanzhang Qin

Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems

Mixed-integer linear programming (MILP) is a cornerstone of optimization with applications across numerous domains. However, the development and evaluation of MILP-solving algorithms are hindered by existing benchmark datasets, which are often limited in scale, lack diversity, and are poorly structured, making them inadequate for systematic testing across different solving approaches, especially for machine learning (ML)-based methods. To address these issues, we introduce MILPBench, a large-scale benchmark suite comprising 100,000 MILP instances organized into 60 well-categorized classes. Using structural properties and embedding similarity metrics, we developed a novel classification framework to ensure both intra-class homogeneity and inter-class diversity. In addition to …

Bert-Based Detection Of Ai-Generated Text For Content Verification, Soham Biren Katlariwala

2024 REYES Proceedings

With advancements in AI-driven natural language generation, distinguishing between AI-generated and human-written text has become imperative for ensuring content authenticity across industries. This study explores the effectiveness of Bidirectional Encoder Representations from Transformers (BERT) in addressing this classification challenge. Utilizing a diverse dataset and robust preprocessing techniques, BERT achieved a peak F1-score of 0.94364, outperforming traditional models such as Logistic Regression and Support Vector Machines. The results underscore the potential of transformer-based models in addressing real-world con- tent verification problems. Future enhancements include fine-tuning and expanding datasets for greater generalizability.

It aids students open their horizons of thought processes to acquire cognitive skills. Cognitive analysis of discussion is critical to understand students' learning process. In this paper, we propose Bloom's taxonomy based cognitive model for programming discussion forums. We present machine learning (ML) based solution to extract students' cognitive skills. Our evaluations on compupting courses show that …

Taming The Data In The Internet Of Vehicles, Shahab Tayeb Jan 2022

Taming The Data In The Internet Of Vehicles, Shahab Tayeb

Mineta Transportation Institute

As an emerging field, the Internet of Vehicles (IoV) has a myriad of security vulnerabilities that must be addressed to protect system integrity. To stay ahead of novel attacks, cybersecurity professionals are developing new software and systems using machine learning techniques. Neural network architectures improve such systems, including Intrusion Detection System (IDSs), by implementing anomaly detection, which differentiates benign data packets from malicious ones. For an IDS to best predict anomalies, the model is trained on data that is typically pre-processed through normalization and feature selection/reduction. These pre-processing techniques play an important role in training a neural network to optimize …

Novel Deep Learning Methods Combined With Static Analysis For Source Code Processing, Duy Quoc Nghi Bui Aug 2020

Novel Deep Learning Methods Combined With Static Analysis For Source Code Processing, Duy Quoc Nghi Bui

Dissertations and Theses Collection (Open Access)

It is desirable to combine machine learning and program analysis so that one can leverage the best of both to increase the performance of software analytics. On one side, machine learning can analyze the source code of thousands of well-written software projects that can uncover patterns that partially characterize software that is reliable, easy to read, and easy to maintain. On the other side, the program analysis can be used to define rigorous and unique rules that are only available in programming languages, which enrich the representation of source code and help the machine learning to capture the patterns better. …

Seeing Eye To Eye: A Machine Learning Approach To Automated Saccade Analysis, Maigh Attre May 2019

Seeing Eye To Eye: A Machine Learning Approach To Automated Saccade Analysis, Maigh Attre

Honors Scholar Theses

Abnormal ocular motility is a common manifestation of many underlying pathologies particularly those that are neurological. Dynamics of saccades, when the eye rapidly changes its point of fixation, have been characterized for many neurological disorders including concussions, traumatic brain injuries (TBI), and Parkinson’s disease. However, widespread saccade analysis for diagnostic and research purposes requires the recognition of certain eye movement parameters. Key information such as velocity and duration must be determined from data based on a wide set of patients’ characteristics that may range in eye shapes and iris, hair and skin pigmentation [36]. Previous work on saccade analysis has …

Comparative Study Of Deep Learning Models For Network Intrusion Detection, Brian Lee, Sandhya Amaresh, Clifford Green, Daniel Engels

SMU Data Science Review

In this paper, we present a comparative evaluation of deep learning approaches to network intrusion detection. A Network Intrusion Detection System (NIDS) is a critical component of every Internet connected system due to likely attacks from both external and internal sources. A NIDS is used to detect network born attacks such as Denial of Service (DoS) attacks, malware replication, and intruders that are operating within the system. Multiple deep learning approaches have been proposed for intrusion detection systems. We evaluate three models, a vanilla deep neural net (DNN), self-taught learning (STL) approach, and Recurrent Neural Network (RNN) based Long Short …

Modeling Engagement Of Programming Students Using Unsupervised Machine Learning Technique, Hua Leong Fwa, Lindsay Marshall

Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems

Engagement is instrumental to students’ learning and academic achievements. In this study, we model the engagement states of students who are working on programming exercises in an intelligent tutoring system. Head pose, keystrokes and action logs of students automatically captured within the tutoring system are fed into a Hidden Markov Model for inferring the engagement states of students. With the modeling of students’ engagement on a moment by moment basis, intervention measures can be initiated automatically by the system when necessary to optimize the students’ learning. This study is also one of the few studies that bypass the need for …

Mind Change Speed-Up For Learning Languages From Positive Data, Sanjay Jain, Efim Kinber Jun 2013

Mind Change Speed-Up For Learning Languages From Positive Data, Sanjay Jain, Efim Kinber

School of Computer Science & Engineering Faculty Publications

Within the frameworks of learning in the limit of indexed classes of recursive languages from positive data and automatic learning in the limit of indexed classes of regular languages (with automatically computable sets of indices), we study the problem of minimizing the maximum number of mind changes by a learner on all languages with indices not exceeding . For inductive inference of recursive languages, we establish two conditions under which can be made smaller than any recursive unbounded non-decreasing function. We also establish how is affected if at least one of these two conditions does not hold. In the case …
