A New Construction For Linkable Secret Handshake, Yangguang Tian, Yingjiu Li, Robert H. Deng, Nan Li, Guomin Yang, Zheng Yang
Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems
In this paper, we introduce a new construction for linkable secret handshake that allows authenticated users to perform handshake anonymously within allowable times. We define formal security models for the new construction, and prove that it can achieve session key security, anonymity, untraceability and linkable affiliation-hiding. In particular, the proposed construction ensures that (i) anyone can trace the real identities of dishonest users who perform handshakes for more than k times; and (ii) an optimal communication cost between authorized users is achieved by exploiting the proof of knowledges.

Privacy-Preserving Outsourced Support Vector Machine Design For Secure Drug Discovery, Ximeng Liu, Robert H. Deng, Kim-Kwang Raymond Choo, Yang Yang
Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems
In this paper, we propose a framework for privacy-preserving outsourced drug discovery in the cloud, which we refer to as POD. Specifically, POD is designed to allow the cloud to securely use multiple drug formula providers' drug formulas to train Support Vector Machine (SVM) provided by the analytical model provider. In our approach, we design secure computation protocols to allow the cloud server to perform commonly used integer and fraction computations. To securely train the SVM, we design a secure SVM parameter selection protocol to select two SVM parameters and construct a secure sequential minimal optimization protocol to privately refresh …

Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems
Real-time location systems are often required in industrial applications. In addition to securely determining an item's location, these systems also need to accommodate energy-limited tracking tokens. Distance-bounding protocols enable a Verifier to cryptographically determine an upper-bound on the physical distance to a Prover by measuring the round-trip time of specially designed challenge-response messages. This type of protocols serve as countermeasure to three common attacks on location-based systems and have been extensively studied with the goal of achieving optimal security bounds for the respective attacks. In this paper, we propose a new energy-efficient distance-bounding protocol that protects against all three common …
Honeyhive - A Network Intrusion Detection System Framework Utilizing Distributed Internet Of Things Honeypot Sensors, Zachary D. Madison
Honeyhive - A Network Intrusion Detection System Framework Utilizing Distributed Internet Of Things Honeypot Sensors, Zachary D. Madison
Theses and Dissertations
Exploding over the past decade, the number of Internet of Things (IoT) devices connected to the Internet jumped from 3.8 billion in 2015 to 17.8 billion in 2018. Because so many IoT devices remain upatched, unmonitored, and left on, they have become a tantalizing target for attackers to gain network access or add another device to their botnet. HoneyHive is a framework that uses distributed IoT honeypots as Network Intrusion Detection Systems (NIDS) sensors that beacon back to a centralized Command and Control (C2) server. The tests in this experiment involve four types of scans and four levels of active …

Near Real-Time Zigbee Device Discrimination Using Cb-Dna Features, Yousuke Z. Matsui
Theses and Dissertations
Currently, Low-Rate Wireless Personal Area Networks (LR-WPAN) based on the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) 802.15.4 standard are at risk due to open-source tools which allow bad actors to exploit unauthorized network access through various cyberattacks by falsifying bit-level credentials. This research investigates implementing a Radio Frequency (RF) air monitor to perform Near RealTime (NRT) discrimination of Zigbee devices using the IEEE 802.15.4 standard. The air monitor employed a Multiple Discriminant Analysis/Euclidean Distance classifier to discriminate Zigbee devices based upon Constellation-Based Distinct Native Attribute (CB-DNA) fingerprints. Through the use of CB-DNA fingerprints, Physical Layer (PHY) characteristics unique to …
Developing A Serious Game To Explore Joint All Domain Command And Control, Nathaniel W. Flack
Developing A Serious Game To Explore Joint All Domain Command And Control, Nathaniel W. Flack
Theses and Dissertations
Changes in the geopolitical landscape and increasing technological complexity have prompted the U.S. Military to coin Multi-Domain Operations (MDO) and Joint All-Domain Command and Control as terms to describe an over-arching strategy that frames the complexity of warfare across both traditional and emerging warfighting domains. Teaching new and advanced concepts associated with these terms requires both innovation as well as distinct education and training tools in order to realize the cultural change advocated by senior military leaders. BSN, a Collectible Card Game, was developed to teach concepts integral to MDO and initiate discussion on military strategy.
Automated Extraction Of Network Activity From Memory Resident Code, Austin Nicholas Sellers
Automated Extraction Of Network Activity From Memory Resident Code, Austin Nicholas Sellers
LSU Master's Theses
Advancements in malware development, including the use of file-less and memory-only payloads, have led to a significant interest in the use of volatile memory analysis by digital forensics practitioners. Memory analysis can uncover a wealth of information not available via traditional analysis, such as the discovery of injected code, hooked APIs, and more. Unfortunately, the process of analyzing such malicious code is largely left to analysts who must manually reverse engineer the code to discover its intent. This task is not only slow and error-prone, but is also generally left only to senior-level analysts to perform, given that significant reverse …

Data Mining Of Chinese Social Networks: Factors That Indicate Post Deletion, Meisam Navaki Arefi
Data Mining Of Chinese Social Networks: Factors That Indicate Post Deletion, Meisam Navaki Arefi
Computer Science ETDs
Widespread Chinese social media applications such as Sina Weibo (Chinese Twitter), the most popular social network in China, are widely known for monitoring and deleting posts to conform to Chinese government requirements. Censorship of Chinese social media is a complex process that involves many factors. There are multiple stakeholders and many different interests: economic, political, legal, personal, etc., which means that there is not a single strategy dictated by a single government authority. Moreover, sometimes Chinese social media do not follow the directives of government, out of concern that they are more strictly censoring than their competitors.
One crucial question …
Encryption Decrypted, Alex Ramsey
Encryption Decrypted, Alex Ramsey
UNO Student Research and Creative Activity Fair
Encryption is a complex and bewildering process, yet it is absolutely foundational for secure and safe activities on the internet. Encryption, in its many forms, ultimately enables identity verification, password protection, secure conversation, cryptocurrency trade, and other online activities. Despite this widespread use, encryption is not a process easily explained to the layperson due to its complexity. Thus, the object of this research is to demystify the process of encryption and provide an understanding of one of the most common forms of modern encryption - RSA Encryption. This will be accomplished through the information provided on my poster as well …

Automated Tool Support - Repairing Security Bugs In Mobile Applications, Larry Singleton
UNO Student Research and Creative Activity Fair
Cryptography is often a critical component in secure software systems. Cryptographic primitive misuses often cause several vulnerability issues. To secure data and communications in applications, developers often rely on cryptographic algorithms and APIs which provide confidentiality, integrity, and authentication based on solid mathematical foundations. While many advanced crypto algorithms are available to developers, the correct usage of these APIs is challenging. Turning mathematical equations in crypto algorithms into an application is a difficult task. A mistake in cryptographic implementations can subvert the security of the entire system. In this research, we present an automated approach for Finding and Repairing Bugs …

Internet of Things (IoT) devices are quickly growing in adoption. The use case for IoT devices runs the gamut from household applications (such as toasters, lighting, and thermostats) to medical, battlefield, or Industrial Control System (ICS) applications used in life or death situations. A disturbing trend is that for IoT devices is that they are not developed with security in mind. This lack of security has led to the creation of massive botnets that conduct nefarious acts. A clear understanding of the threat landscape IoT devices face is needed to address these security issues. One technique used to understand threats …

Iot-Hass: A Framework For Protecting Smart Home Environment, Tarig Mudawi
Masters Theses & Doctoral Dissertations
While many solutions have been proposed for smart home security, the problem that no single solution fully protects the smart home environment still exists. In this research we propose a security framework to protect the smart home environment. The proposed framework includes three engines that complement each other to protect the smart home IoT devices. The first engine is an IDS/IPS module that monitors all traffic in the home network and then detects, alerts users, and/or blocks packets using anomaly-based detection. The second engine works as a device management module that scans and verifies IoT devices in the home network, …

Cyber Risk Assessment And Scoring Model For Small Unmanned Aerial Vehicles, Dillon M. Pettit
Cyber Risk Assessment And Scoring Model For Small Unmanned Aerial Vehicles, Dillon M. Pettit
Theses and Dissertations
The commercial-off-the-shelf small Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) market is expanding rapidly in response to interest from hobbyists, commercial businesses, and military operators. The core commercial mission set directly relates to many current military requirements and strategies, with a priority on short range, low cost, real time aerial imaging, and limited modular payloads. These small vehicles present small radar cross sections, low heat signatures, and carry a variety of sensors and payloads. As with many new technologies, security seems secondary to the goal of reaching the market as soon as innovation is viable. Research indicates a growth in exploits and vulnerabilities …
Interoperable Ads-B Confidentiality, Brandon C. Burfeind
Interoperable Ads-B Confidentiality, Brandon C. Burfeind
Theses and Dissertations
The worldwide air traffic infrastructure is in the late stages of transition from legacy transponder systems to Automatic Dependent Surveillance - Broadcast (ADS-B) based systems. ADS-B relies on position information from GNSS and requires aircraft to transmit their identification, state, and position. ADS-B promises the availability of high-fidelity air traffic information; however, position and identification data are not secured via authentication or encryption. This lack of security for ADS-B allows non-participants to observe and collect data on both government and private flight activity. This is a proposal for a lightweight, interoperable ADS-B confidentiality protocol which uses existing format preserving encryption …

Revocation capacity is one of the main properties for an identity-based encryption (IBE), as in practice users’ private keys are possibly leaked or expired. However, existing revocable IBE schemes usually lack of short keys. Recently, Lin et al. proposed a method to design space efficient revocable IBE scheme from non-monotonic key-policy attribute-based encryption scheme. But, it requires too many pairings (linear to the number of revoked users) to decrypt an IBE ciphertext. In this study, we overcome this problem by adopting the technique of server-aided revocation, recently proposed by Qin et al. in ESORICS 2015. The main contribution is a …

Privacy-Preserving Data Processing With Flexible Access Control, Wenxiu Ding, Zheng Yan, Robert H. Deng
Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems
Cloud computing provides an efficient and convenient platform for cloud users to store, process and control their data. Cloud overcomes the bottlenecks of resource-constrained user devices and greatly releases their storage and computing burdens. However, due to the lack of full trust in cloud service providers, the cloud users generally prefer to outsource their sensitive data in an encrypted form, which, however, seriously complicates data processing, analysis, as well as access control. Homomorphic encryption (HE) as a single key system cannot flexibly control data sharing and access after encrypted data processing. How to realize various computations over encrypted data in …

Review Of Fundamental To Know About The Future, Hannarae Lee
International Journal of Cybersecurity Intelligence & Cybercrime
What we consider fundamental elements can be easily overlooked or perceived as facts without the process of empirical testing. Especially in the field of cybercrime and cybersecurity, there are more speculations regarding the prevalence and the scope of harm carried out by wrongdoers than empirically tested studies. To fill the void, three articles included in the current issue addresses empirical findings of fundamental concerns and knowledge in the field of cybercrime and cybersecurity.

An Empirical Study To Determine The Role Of File-System In Modification Of Hash Value, Kumarshankar Raychaudhuri, M. George Christopher
International Journal of Cybersecurity Intelligence & Cybercrime
In digital forensics, maintaining the integrity of digital exhibits is an essential aspect of the entire investigation and examination process, which is established using the technique of hashing. Lack of knowledge, while handling digital exhibits, might lead to unintentional alteration of computed hash, rendering the exhibit unacceptable in the court of Law. The hash value of a physical drive does not solely depend upon the data files present in it but also its file-system. Therefore, any change to the file-system might result in the change of the disk hash, even when the data files within it remain untouched. In this …

An Alternative To The One-Size-Fits-All Approach To Isa Training: A Design Science Approach To Isa Regarding The Adaption To Student Vulnerability Based On Knowledge And Behavior, Thomas Jernejcic
SDSU Data Science Symposium
Any connection to the university’s network is a conduit that has the potential of being exploited by an attacker, resulting in the possibility of substantial harm to the infrastructure, to the university, and to the student body of whom the university serves. While organizations rightfully “baton down the hatches” by building firewalls, creating proxies, and applying important updates, the most significant vulnerability, that of the student, continues to be an issue due to lack of knowledge, insufficient motivation, and inadequate or misguided training. Utilizing the Design Science Research (DSR) methodology, this research effort seeks to address the latter concern of …

Clone detection on large code repository is necessary for many big code analysis tasks. The goal is to provide rich information on identical and similar code across projects. Detecting near-miss code clones on big code is challenging since it requires intensive computing and memory resources as the scale of the source code increases. In this work, we propose SAGA, an efficient suffix-array based code clone detection tool designed with sophisticated GPU optimization. SAGA not only detects Type-l and Type-2 clones but also does so for cross-project large repositories and for the most computationally expensive Type-3 clones. Meanwhile, it also works …

Deepbindiff: Learning Program-Wide Code Representations For Binary Diffing, Yue Duan, Xuezixiang Li, Jinghan Wang, Wang, Heng Yin
Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems
Binary diffing analysis quantitatively measures the differences between two given binaries and produces fine-grained basic block matching. It has been widely used to enable different kinds of critical security analysis. However, all existing program analysis and machine learning based techniques suffer from low accuracy, poor scalability, coarse granularity, or require extensive labeled training data to function. In this paper, we propose an unsupervised program-wide code representation learning technique to solve the problem. We rely on both the code semantic information and the program-wide control flow information to generate block embeddings. Furthermore, we propose a k-hop greedy matching algorithm to find …
Privacy-Preserving Network Path Validation, Binanda Sengupta, Yingjiu Li, Kai Bu, Robert H. Deng
Privacy-Preserving Network Path Validation, Binanda Sengupta, Yingjiu Li, Kai Bu, Robert H. Deng
Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems
The end-users communicating over a network path currently have no control over the path. For a better quality of service, the source node often opts for a superior (or premium) network path to send packets to the destination node. However, the current Internet architecture provides no assurance that the packets indeed follow the designated path. Network path validation schemes address this issue and enable each node present on a network path to validate whether each packet has followed the specific path so far. In this work, we introduce two notions of privacy—path privacy and index privacy—in the context of network …
