A Model For Determining Information To Be Captured Regarding Unauthorized Computer Entry Of An Air Force Computer System, Leslie F. Himebrook Dec 1997

A Model For Determining Information To Be Captured Regarding Unauthorized Computer Entry Of An Air Force Computer System, Leslie F. Himebrook

Theses and Dissertations

This thesis presents a model of information to capture regarding unauthorized computer systems access attempts. This model takes a management focus, and incorporates the technical focus, intelligence focus, and legal focus as inputs. The author used an exploratory, qualitative methodology consisting of an extensive literature review and interviews with experts in the field. These efforts produced the proposed model, which was reviewed by experts in the field using a delphi technique. The model consists of information that is divided into the following areas: 1. What information was compromised. 2. What type of intrusion occurred. 3. How the intrusion was attempted. …

A New On-Line Cash Check Scheme, Robert H. Deng, Yongfei Han, Albert B. Jeng, Teow-Hin Ngair

Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems

This paper presents a new on-line cash check scheme which guarantees payor anonymity and improves upon existing similar schemes in efficiency and security.

Analyzing And Improving Stochastic Network Security: A Multicriteria Prescriptive Risk Analysis Model, David L. Lyle Mar 1997

Analyzing And Improving Stochastic Network Security: A Multicriteria Prescriptive Risk Analysis Model, David L. Lyle

Theses and Dissertations

This research optimized two measures of network security by hardening components and improving their reliability. A common measure of effectiveness (MOE) for networks is statistical reliability, which ignores the effects of hostile actions. A new MOE which includes hostile actions was developed. Both measures require component reliability functions, derived using fault trees. Fuzzy Logic and Monte Carlo simulation were used to quantify uncertainty. Results from the model are compared to traditional Risk Assessment results.

The "Hoover" Project: Home Occupants Vehicular Electronic Reconnaissance, Kelvin Chan Jan 1997

The "Hoover" Project: Home Occupants Vehicular Electronic Reconnaissance, Kelvin Chan

SWITCH

The article explains telepresence, as well as its potential in safety and security, along with its traditional usage of traversing dangerous situations. This article describes a dystopian plan to place drones equipped with cameras and microphones in all homes in the Silicon Valley as a vehicle for telepresence. The data achieved through this method would also be stored into a public domain browser on the internet, free for anyone in the public to view, including larger corporations and the government. The idea behind this is the assimilation of data behind all cultures for understanding and to assist law enforcement in …

The Development And Use Of The Secure Electronic Transaction (Set) Protocol On The Internet, Damon James Whyte Jan 1997

The Development And Use Of The Secure Electronic Transaction (Set) Protocol On The Internet, Damon James Whyte

Theses : Honours

While still in its infancy, Electronic Commerce is growing at an exponential rate each year (Walson, 1997. p.53). Although few doubt that such growth will only continue in years to come, many people still have serious reservations about the levels of security offered by currently available applications for conducting such trade. This thesis identifies some of the key areas of concern regarding Electronic Commerce on the lnternet, and looks at the ways in which the Secure Electronic Transaction (SET) model, proposed by Mastercard and Visa, succeeds or fails in addressing these concerns. It identifies and describes the key dements and …

Review Of Personal Identification Systems, J. M. Cross Jan 1997

Review Of Personal Identification Systems, J. M. Cross

Research outputs pre 2011

The growth of the use of biometric personal identification systems has been relatively steady over the last 20 years. The expected biometric revolution which was forecast since the mid 1970's has not yet occurred. The main factor for lower than expected growth has been the cost and user acceptance of the systems. During the last few years, however, a new generation of more reliable, less expensive and better designed biometric devices have come onto the market. This combined with the anticipated expansion of new reliable, user friendly inexpensive systems provides a signal that the revolution is about to begin. This …

Privacy Issues Dealing With Technology : A Review Of The Literature, Kimberly S. Mccoy Jan 1997

Privacy Issues Dealing With Technology : A Review Of The Literature, Kimberly S. Mccoy

Graduate Research Papers

The sophisticated applications of technology are expanding everyday. Unfortunately, so are the many concerns individuals in society are having about their right to privacy. The actual regulations dealing with one's right to privacy has not expand as rapidly as the applications of technology. Individuals using various types of technology are under the assumption their activities are private; however, this is not the case. It does not seem to matter if you are using a computer for communications work, school, or in the "privacy" of your own home, there is absolutely no privacy when dealing with this type of technology.
