Teaching Static Call Analysis To Detect Anomalous Software Behavior, Jordan Shropshire, Philip Menard
Teaching Static Call Analysis To Detect Anomalous Software Behavior, Jordan Shropshire, Philip Menard
KSU Proceedings on Cybersecurity Education, Research and Practice
Malicious code detection is a critical part of any cyber security operation. Typically, the behavior of normal applications is modeled so that deviations from normal behavior can be identified. There are multiple approach to modeling good behavior but the most common approach is to observe applications’ system call activity. System calls are messages passed between user space applications and their underlying operating systems. The detection of irregular system call activity signals the presence of malicious software behavior. This method of malware-detection has been used successfully for almost two decades. Unfortunately, it can be difficult to cover this concept at the …
A Study Of Information Security Awareness Program Effectiveness In Predicting End-User Security Behavior, James Michael Banfield
A Study Of Information Security Awareness Program Effectiveness In Predicting End-User Security Behavior, James Michael Banfield
Master's Theses and Doctoral Dissertations
As accessibility to data increases, so does the need to increase security. For organizations of all sizes, information security (IS) has become paramount due to the increased use of the Internet. Corporate data are transmitted ubiquitously over wireless networks and have increased exponentially with cloud computing and growing end-user demand. Both technological and human strategies must be employed in the development of an information security awareness (ISA) program. By creating a positive culture that promotes desired security behavior through appropriate technology, security policies, and an understanding of human motivations, ISA programs have been the norm for organizational end-user risk mitigation …
Using A Virtual Computing Laboratory To Foster Collaborative Learning For Information Security And Information Technology Education, Abdullah Konak, Michael R. Bartolacci
Using A Virtual Computing Laboratory To Foster Collaborative Learning For Information Security And Information Technology Education, Abdullah Konak, Michael R. Bartolacci
Journal of Cybersecurity Education, Research and Practice
Virtual computer laboratories have been an excellent technological solution to the problem of providing students with hands-on experimentation in information technology fields such as information security in a cost effective and secure manner. A virtual computer laboratory was utilized in this work as a collaborative environment for student learning with the goal of measuring its effect on student learning and attitudes toward laboratory assignments. Experiments were carried out utilizing specially-designed computer-based laboratory activities that included student assessments and surveys upon their completion. The experiments involved both small groups and individual students completing their respective laboratory activities and subsequent assessments/surveys. …

This poster invited Research Days attendees to learn more about malvertising--the practice of hiding malicious code within online advertisements--and the challenges of detecting and preventing it.
An Analysis Of The Relationship Between Security Information Technology Enhancements And Computer Security Breaches And Incidents, Linda Betz
CCAC Theses and Dissertations
Financial services institutions maintain large amounts of data that include both intellectual property and personally identifiable information for employees and customers. Due to the potential damage to individuals, government regulators hold institutions accountable for ensuring that personal data are protected and require reporting of data security breaches. No company wants a data breach, but finding a security incident or breach early in the attack cycle may decrease the damage or data loss a company experiences. In multiple high profile data breaches reported in major news stories over the past few years, there is a pattern of the adversary being inside …
Secure Portable Execution And Storage Environments: A Capability To Improve Security For Remote Working, Peter James
Secure Portable Execution And Storage Environments: A Capability To Improve Security For Remote Working, Peter James
Theses: Doctorates and Masters
Remote working is a practice that provides economic benefits to both the employing organisation and the individual. However, evidence suggests that organisations implementing remote working have limited appreciation of the security risks, particularly those impacting upon the confidentiality and integrity of information and also on the integrity and availability of the remote worker’s computing environment. Other research suggests that an organisation that does appreciate these risks may veto remote working, resulting in a loss of economic benefits. With the implementation of high speed broadband, remote working is forecast to grow and therefore it is appropriate that improved approaches to managing …

In this study, the factors that affect employee acceptance of information systems security measures were examined by extending the Technology Acceptance Model. Partial least squares structural equation modeling was applied to examine these factors. 174 valid responses from employees from companies in various industry segments in the United States and Canada were analyzed. The results of the statistical analysis indicate that subjective norm moderated by management support showed the strongest effect on intention to use information systems security measures.
Wireless Networks: Certificateless Id-Based Authentication Using Threshold Signature For P2p Manets, Aasia Samreen, Seema Ansari
Wireless Networks: Certificateless Id-Based Authentication Using Threshold Signature For P2p Manets, Aasia Samreen, Seema Ansari
International Conference on Information and Communication Technologies
As far as the security of MANET (mobile and ad hoc network) is concerned, it depends upon the secure authentication especially for P2P MANETs. Identity based encryption was introduced to construct Public Key without requiring a certificate. Therefore, certificateless authentication combined with threshold digital signature and efficient key generation using identities such as IP address, are the challenging issues in front of researchers. In this paper we have addressed the problem of identity based secure authentication employing well-known RSA algorithm and secret sharing to generate threshold signature on a message.
