Version And Transaction Management In Osmagic: An Object-Oriented Database Implementation Of The Magic Vlsi Layout Design Tool, Gary M. Lightner
Version And Transaction Management In Osmagic: An Object-Oriented Database Implementation Of The Magic Vlsi Layout Design Tool, Gary M. Lightner
Theses and Dissertations
The goal of this thesis was to study the feasibility of using an object-oriented database management system to provide the functionality and performance needed to support a complex computer-aided design tool. We do this by modifying OSMagic, a prototype system of the Magic very large scale integrated (VLSI) circuit design tool implemented on the ObjectStore object- oriented database management system. OSMagic was changed to support three different interfaces to ObjectStore and to work in a networking environment. We then designed and examined the use of version and transaction management models as a means of addressing the weaknesses of the prototype …

Migrating A C-Based Cad Tool To An Object-Oriented Database/C++ Environment: Conversion Costs And Performance Analysis, Mark A. Roth, Timothy M. Jacobs
AFIT Documents
his paper examines the potential of object-oriented databases to support complex design applications. To do this we migrated the Magic very large scale integrated (VLSI) circuit design tool written in the C language to a new environment in which Magic's existing file management code is replaced with a C++ language interface to the commercial object-oriented database management system (OODBMS) product Object Store. In our initial implementation we found the performance of this tool as implemented on the OODBMS to be marginally faster than the tool as currently implemented with a flat file system in several critical areas. Increased functionality, including …

An Object-Oriented Database Implementation Of The Magic Vlsi Layout Design System, Timothy M. Jacobs
Theses and Dissertations
This thesis attempts to prove that the commercially available Object Store data management system provide the performance and functionality necessary to support a complex engineering design system. This is accomplished by modifying the Magic VLSI circuit layout design system to eliminate its current Unix file data management system and replace it with Object Store. The approach to this research effort includes a design recovery of the Magic system and identification of its ket data management functions. These functions are then modified to take advantage of the database management facilities of Object Store. Additional code is added to instrument performance measurement …

Observation Of Iv(4=S) Decays Into Non-=Bba Final States Containing I Mesons, Alexander, J.; Et Al., M. Thulasidas
Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems
We report on the observation of ; mesons from T(4S) decays which are too energetic to come from 8 mesons. These events provide evidence for non-88 decays of the T (4S). The measured rate is B(T(4S)+fX)=0.22•0.06•0.041 for ; momentum above 2 GeV/c.

Pipelining Data Compression Algorithms, R. L. Bailey, R. Mukkamala
Pipelining Data Compression Algorithms, R. L. Bailey, R. Mukkamala
Computer Science Faculty Publications
Many different data compression techniques currently exist. Each has its own advantages and disadvantages. Combining (pipelining) multiple data compression techniques could achieve better compression rates than is possible with either technique individually. This paper proposes a pipelining technique and investigates the characteristics of two example pipelining algorithms. Their performance is compared with other well-known compression techniques.
Measurement Of The C+ Decay-Asymmetry Parameter, Avery, P.; Et Al., M. Thulasidas
Measurement Of The C+ Decay-Asymmetry Parameter, Avery, P.; Et Al., M. Thulasidas
Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems
We report a measurement of polarization in the two-body decay c+, in nonresonant e+e- interactions from data taken with the CLEO detector. Using these data we have determined the parity-violating asymmetry decay parameter c to be -1.0-0.0+0.4. We see no evidence for significant c+ polarization.
