Image view synthesis has seen great success in reconstructing photorealistic visuals, thanks to deep learning and various novel representations. The next key step in immersive virtual experiences is view synthesis of dynamic scenes. However, several challenges exist due to the lack of high-quality training datasets, and the additional time dimension for videos of dynamic scenes. To address this issue, we introduce a multi-view video dataset, captured with a custom 10-camera rig in 120FPS. The dataset contains 96 high-quality scenes showing various visual effects and human interactions in outdoor scenes. We develop a new algorithm, Deep 3D Mask Volume, which enables …

Multi-view learning (MVL) is a special type of machine learning that utilizes more than one views, where views include various descriptions of a given sample. Traditionally, classification algorithms such as k-nearest neighbors (KNN) are designed for learning from single-view data. However, many real-world applications involve datasets with multiple views and each view may contain different and partly independent information, which makes the traditional single-view classification approaches ineffective. Therefore, this article proposes an improved MVL algorithm, called multi-view k-nearest neighbors (MVKNN), based on the existing KNN algorithm. The experimental results conducted in this research show that a significant improvement is achieved …

Classification is an important branch of machine learning that impacts many areas of modern life. Many classification algorithms (classifiers for short) have been developed. They have highly different levels of sophistication and classification accuracy. Classification problems often have highly different levels of hardness and complexity. Practitioners of classification modeling need better understanding of those algorithms in order to select the optimal algorithm for given classification problems. Researchers of classification need new insight on how given classifiers are weak and how they can be improved by correcting their classification errors. This dissertation introduces new tools and concepts to analyze classifier weakness …
Convolutional Audio Source Separation Applied To Drum Signal Separation, Marius Orehovschi
Convolutional Audio Source Separation Applied To Drum Signal Separation, Marius Orehovschi
Honors Theses
This study examined the task of drum signal separation from full music mixes via both classical methods (Independent Component Analysis) and a combination of Time-Frequency Binary Masking and Convolutional Neural Networks. The results indicate that classical methods relying on predefined computations do not achieve any meaningful results, while convolutional neural networks can achieve imperfect but musically useful results. Furthermore, neural network performance can be improved by data augmentation via transposition – a technique that can only be applied in the context of drum signal separation.

Information Architecture For A Chemical Modeling Knowledge Graph, Adam R. Luxon
Theses and Dissertations
Machine learning models for chemical property predictions are high dimension design challenges spanning multiple disciplines. Free and open-source software libraries have streamlined the model implementation process, but the design complexity remains. In order better navigate and understand the machine learning design space, model information needs to be organized and contextualized. In this work, instances of chemical property models and their associated parameters were stored in a Neo4j property graph database. Machine learning model instances were created with permutations of dataset, learning algorithm, molecular featurization, data scaling, data splitting, hyperparameters, and hyperparameter optimization techniques. The resulting graph contains over 83,000 nodes …

Reliable And Interpretable Machine Learning For Modeling Physical And Cyber Systems, Daniel L. Marino Lizarazo
Theses and Dissertations
Over the past decade, Machine Learning (ML) research has predominantly focused on building extremely complex models in order to improve predictive performance. The idea was that performance can be improved by adding complexity to the models. This approach proved to be successful in creating models that can approximate highly complex relationships while taking advantage of large datasets. However, this approach led to extremely complex black-box models that lack reliability and are difficult to interpret. By lack of reliability, we specifically refer to the lack of consistent (unpredictable) behavior in situations outside the training data. Lack of interpretability refers to the …

Decision making for store locations is crucial for retail companies as the profit depends on the location. The key point for correct store location is profit approximation, which is highly dependent on population of the corresponding region, and hence, the volume of the residential area. Thus, estimating building volumes provides insight about the revenue if a new store is about to be opened there. Remote sensing through stereo/tri-stereo satellite images provides wide area coverage as well as adequate resolution for three dimensional reconstruction for volume estimation. We reconstruct 3D map of corresponding region with the help of semiglobal matching and …

A New Classification Method For Encrypted Internet Traffic Using Machine Learning, Mesut Uğurlu, İbrahi̇m Alper Doğru, Recep Si̇nan Arslan
Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences
The rate of internet usage in the world is over 62% and this rate is increasing day by day. With this increase, it becomes important to ensure the confidentiality of the information in the traffic flowing over the internet. Encryption algorithms and protocols are used for this purpose. This situation, which is beneficial for normal users, is also used by attackers to hide. Cyber attackers or hackers gain the ability to bypass security precautions such as IDS/IPS and antivirus systems with using encrypted traffic. Since payload analysis cannot be performed without deciphering the encrypted traffic, existing commercial security solutions fall …
Increasing Software Reliability Using Mutation Testing And Machine Learning, Michael Allen Stewart
Increasing Software Reliability Using Mutation Testing And Machine Learning, Michael Allen Stewart
CCAC Theses and Dissertations
Mutation testing is a type of software testing proposed in the 1970s where program statements are deliberately changed to introduce simple errors so that test cases can be validated to determine if they can detect the errors. The goal of mutation testing was to reduce complex program errors by preventing the related simple errors. Test cases are executed against the mutant code to determine if one fails, detects the error and ensures the program is correct. One major issue with this type of testing was it became intensive computationally to generate and test all possible mutations for complex programs.

Android is a platform that hosts roughly 99% of known malware to date, and is the focus of most research efforts in mobile malware detection due to its open source nature. One of the main tools used in this effort is supervised machine learning. While a decade of work has made a lot of progress in detection accuracy, there is an obstacle that each stream of research is …
Neural Network Variations For Time Series Forecasting, David Ason
Neural Network Variations For Time Series Forecasting, David Ason
CCAC Theses and Dissertations
Time series forecasting is an area of research within the discipline of machine learning. The ARIMA model is a well-known approach to this challenge. However, simple models such as ARIMA do not take into consideration complex relationships within the data and quite often fail to produce a satisfactory forecast. Neural networks have been presented in previous works as an alternative. Neural networks are able to capture non-linear relationships within the data and can deliver an improved forecast when compared to ARIMA models.
This dissertation takes neural network variations and applies them to a group of time series datasets found in …

Optimization of extrusion-based bioprinting (EBB) parameters have been systematically conducted through experimentation. However, the process is time and resource-intensive and not easily translatable across different laboratories. A machine learning (ML) approach to EBB parameter optimization can accelerate this process for laboratories across the field through training using data collected from published literature. In this work, regression-based and classification-based ML models were investigated for their abilities to predict printing outcomes of cell viability and filament diameter for cell-containing alginate and gelatin composite hydrogels. Regression-based models were investigated for their ability to predict suitable extrusion pressure given desired cell viability when keeping …

Multiprocessor System-on-Chip (MPSoC) integrating heterogeneous processing elements (CPU, GPU, Accelerators, memory, I/O modules ,etc.) are the de-facto design choice to meet the ever-increasing performance/Watt requirements from modern computing machines. Although at consumer level the number of processing elements (PE) are limited to 8-16, for high end servers, the number of PEs can scale up to hundreds. A Network-on-Chip (NoC) is a microscale network that facilitates the packetized communication among the PEs in such complex computational systems. Due to the heterogeneous integration of the cores, execution of diverse (serial and parallel) applications on the PEs, application mapping strategies, and many other …
Revisiting Absolute Pose Regression, Hunter Blanton
Revisiting Absolute Pose Regression, Hunter Blanton
Theses and Dissertations--Computer Science
Images provide direct evidence for the position and orientation of the camera in space, known as camera pose. Traditionally, the problem of estimating the camera pose requires reference data for determining image correspondence and leveraging geometric relationships between features in the image. Recent advances in deep learning have led to a new class of methods that regress the pose directly from a single image.
This thesis proposes methods for absolute camera pose regression. Absolute pose regression estimates the pose of a camera from a single image as the output of a fixed computation pipeline. These methods have many practical benefits …

Quality Of Sql Code Security On Stackoverflow And Methods Of Prevention, Robert Klock
Honors Papers
This paper explores the frequency at which SQL/PHP posts on the website Stackoverflow.com contain code susceptible to SQL Injection, a common database vulnerability. Specifically, we analyze whether other users give notice of the vulnerability or provide an answer that is secure. The majority of questions analyzed were vulnerable to SQL Injection and were not corrected in their answers or brought to the attention of the original poster. To mitigate this, we present a machine learning bot which analyzes the poster’s code and alerts them of potential injection vulnerabilities, if necessary.

Stock market forecasting is a knotty challenging task due to the highly noisy, nonparametric, complex and chaotic nature of the stock price time series. With a simple eight-trigram feature engineering scheme of the inter-day candlestick patterns, we construct a novel ensemble machine learning framework for daily stock pattern prediction, combining traditional candlestick charting with the latest artificial intelligence methods. Several machine learning techniques, including deep learning methods, are applied to stock data to predict the direction of the closing price. This framework can give a suitable machine learning prediction method for each pattern based on the trained results. The investment …

Retrieval of the phycocyanin concentration (PC), a characteristic pigment of, and proxy for, cyanobacteria biomass, from hyperspectral satellite remote sensing measurements is challenging due to uncertainties in the remote sensing reflectance (∆Rrs) resulting from atmospheric correction and instrument radiometric noise. Although several individual algorithms have been proven to capture local variations in cyanobacteria biomass in specific regions, their performance has not been assessed on hyperspectral images from satellite sensors. Our work leverages a machine-learning model, Mixture Density Networks (MDNs), trained on a large (N = 939) dataset of collocated in situ chlorophyll-a concentrations (Chla), …

motion estimation procedure effectively producing surface velocity estimates with
an associated uncertainty. This approach brings both improved computational effi-
ciency, and greater scalability across observational time-frames when compared to
existing methods. To gauge efficacy, we apply these methods to a set of observa-

With data becoming a new form of currency, its analysis has become a top priority in both academia and industry, furthering advancements in high-performance computing and machine learning. However, these large, real-world datasets come with additional complications such as noise and class overlap. Problems are magnified when with multi-class data is presented, especially since many of the popular algorithms were originally designed for binary data. Another challenge arises when the number of examples are not evenly distributed across all classes in a dataset. This often causes classifiers to favor the majority class over the minority classes, leading to undesirable results …

We consider the problem of compressive synthetic aperture radar (SAR) imaging with the goal of reconstructing SAR imagery in the presence of under sampled phase history. While this problem is typically considered in compressive sensing (CS) literature, we consider a variety of deep learning approaches where a deep neural network (DNN) is trained to form SAR imagery from limited data. At the cost of computationally intensive offline training, on-line test-time DNN-SAR has demonstrated orders of magnitude faster reconstruction than standard CS algorithms. A limitation of the DNN approach is that any change to the operating conditions necessitates a costly retraining …

Human cornea is the front see-through shield of the eye. It refracts light onto the retina to induce vision. Therefore, any defect in the cornea may lead to vision disturbance. This deficiency is estimated by sets of topographicalimages measured, and assessed by an ophthalmologist. Consequently, an important priority is the early and accuratediagnosis of diseases that may affect corneal integrity through the use of machine learning algorithms. Images producedby a Pentacam device can be subjected to rotation or some distortion during acquisition; therefore, accurate diagnosisrequires the use of local features in the image. Accordingly, a new algorithm called subbands wavelet for …
