Traditional kernel updates such as perfective maintenance and vulnerability patching requires shutting the system down, disrupting continuous execution of applications. Enterprises and researchers have proposed various live updating techniques to patch the kernel with lower downtime to reduce the loss of useful uptime. However, existing kernel live update techniques either rely on specific support from the target OS, or are deployed in virtualized environments (i.e., systems running in virtual machines). Integrating Machine Learning (ML) techniques into Vehicular Adhoc Networks (VANETs) provides promising features in autonomous driving and ITS applications. In this paper, DSRC data is used to evaluate the effectiveness of different ML models, including Naive Bayes, Random Forest, KNN, and Gradient Boosting, in normal and adversarial scenarios. Since the dataset is relatively imbalanced, the Synthetic Minority Over-sampling Technique (SMOTE) is employed for sampling, and defensive distillation for improving model resilience to adversarial perturbations. Tracking in dense indoor environments where several thousands of people move around is an extremely challenging problem. In this paper, we present a system — DenseTrack for tracking people in such environments. DenseTrack leverages data from the sensing modalities that are already present in these environments — Wi-Fi (from enterprise network deployments) and Video (from surveillance cameras). We combine Wi-Fi information with video data to overcome the individual errors induced by these modalities. Effective healthcare traffic management is critical for ensuring prompt medical services, particularly in emergencies where delays can have life-threatening consequences. This study conducts a comparative analysis of three popular machine learning models—Linear Regression, Decision Trees, and Random Forests—for predicting healthcare-related traffic volumes. Utilizing a comprehensive dataset from a metropolitan interstate traffic system, the models were evaluated based on key performance metrics, including Mean Squared Error (MSE), R² Score, and execution time. The findings demonstrate that the Random Forest model outperforms the others, offering superior predictive accuracy and efficiency. This research introduces a benchmark framework, called EDUMX, designed for machine learning (ML)- based forecasting and XAI tasks, leveraging the Streamlit open-source Python library. This study examines pre-service teachers’ (PSTs’) responses to using AI to review their writing. As part of a class activity, PSTs prompted an AI-chatbot for feedback and revisions on a short essay based on a provided assignment rubric. Afterward, they reflected on the pros and cons of using AI in this way. While some PSTs initially encountered functionality issues, all were able to obtain feedback and the majority reported finding it useful. However, it also brings issues such as data privacy leakage, which can be exploited by recipients with malicious intentions to harm the sender. In this paper, we propose a deep neural network that analyzes user’s image for privacy sensitive content and automatically locates sensitive regions for obfuscation. However, accurately detecting and analyzing emotions in developer communications poses significant challenges due to the lack of visual and auditory cues in text-based interactions. This dissertation investigates techniques to enhance the understanding and modeling of emotions within the textual artifacts of open-source projects. After a person is arrested and charged with a crime, they may be released on bail and required to participate in a community supervision program while awaiting trial. These ‘pretrial programs’ are common throughout the United States, but very little research has demonstrated their effectiveness. Researchers have emphasized the need for more rigorous program evaluation methods, which we introduce in this article. We describe a program evaluation pipeline that uses recent interpretable machine learning techniques for observational causal inference, and demonstrate these techniques in a study of a pre-trial program in Durham, North Carolina. Large-scale systems are currently equipped with multiple GPU accelerators per compute node and are expected to incorporate more specialized hardware. Motivation

Identifying cancer genes remains a significant challenge in cancer genomics research. Annotated gene sets encode functional associations among multiple genes, and cancer genes have been shown to cluster in hallmark signaling pathways and biological processes. The knowledge of annotated gene sets is critical for discovering cancer genes but remains to be fully exploited.

Results

Here, we present the DIsease-Specific Hypergraph neural network (DISHyper), a hypergraph-based computational method that integrates the knowledge from multiple types of annotated gene sets to predict cancer genes. The Electron-Ion Collider (EIC), a state-of-the-art facility for studying the strong force, is expected to begin commissioning its first experiments in 2028. This is an opportune time for artificial intelligence (AI) to be included from the start at this facility and in all phases that lead up to the experiments. The iterative character of work in machine learning (ML) and artificial intelligence (AI) and reliance on comparisons against benchmark datasets emphasize the importance of reproducibility in that literature. Yet, resource constraints and inadequate documentation can make running replications particularly challenging. Our work explores the potential of using downstream citation contexts as a signal of reproducibility. We introduce a sentiment analysis framework applied to citation contexts from papers involved in Machine Learning Reproducibility Challenges in order to interpret the positive or negative outcomes of reproduction attempts. Scientists often utilize personal laptops and workstations for initial research stages and turn to high-performance computing (HPC) supercomputers for compute-intensive tasks. However, seamless transitions between these environments are vital for enhancing productivity and accelerating research progress. Our paper presents the Cybershuttle Notebook Gateway, an open-source framework crafted to streamline this transition, optimize resource utilization, and reduce time-to-science for researchers. Leveraging JupyterLab, the framework extends kernel mechanics for seamless provisioning and connection to remote HPC cluster kernels. Recent advancements in genome assembly have greatly improved the prospects for comprehensive annotation of Transposable Elements (TEs). However, existing methods for TE annotation using genome assemblies suffer from limited accuracy and robustness, requiring extensive manual editing. In addition, the currently available gold-standard TE databases are not comprehensive, even for extensively studied species, highlighting the critical need for an automated TE detection method to supplement existing repositories. In this study, we introduce HiTE, a fast and accurate dynamic boundary adjustment approach designed to detect full-length TEs. The transition to digital marketing has revolutionized advertising, reflecting and shaping societal norms and trends. The “Saving Ads” project addresses the challenges of preserving these ephemeral digital artifacts, essential for understanding the evolution of advertising and its socio-cultural impact. The initiative focuses on technical solutions for archiving dynamic online ads and enhancing access to these critical resources for future scholarship. By examining the preservation of online advertisements and suggesting improved approaches for archiving dynamic online content, this project contributes to the documentation of digital history.

Converting a three-dimensional medical image into a 3D mesh that satisfies both the quality and fidelity constraints of predictive simulations and image-guided surgical procedures remains a critical problem. Presented is an image-to-mesh conversion method called CBC3D. It first discretizes a segmented image by generating an adaptive Body-Centered Cubic mesh of high-quality elements. Next, the tetrahedral mesh is converted into a mixed element mesh of tetrahedra, pentahedra, and hexahedra to decrease element count while maintaining quality. Finally, the mesh surfaces are deformed to their corresponding physical image boundaries, improving the mesh’s fidelity. The deformation scheme builds upon the ITK open-source library …

The study presents a novel method to improve the prediction accuracy of cardiac disease by combining data augmentation techniques with reinforcement learning. The complex nature of cardiac data frequently presents challenges for traditional machine learning models, which results in subpar performance. In response, our fusion methodology improves predictive capabilities by augmenting data and utilizing reinforcement learning's skill at sequential decision-making. Our method predicts cardiac disease with an astounding 94 % accuracy rate, which is an outstanding result.
