Can We Classify Cashless Payment Solution Implementations At The Country Level?, Dennis Ng, Robert J. Kauffman, Paul Robert Griffin
Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems
This research commentary proposes a 3-D implementation classification framework to assist service providers and business leaders in understanding the kinds of contexts in which more or less successful cashless payment solutions are observed at point-of-sale (PoS) settings. Three constructs characterize the framework: the digitalization of the local implementation environment; the relative novelty of a given payment technology solution in a country at a specific point in time; and the development status of the country’s national infrastructure. The framework is motivated by a need to support cross-country research in this domain. We analyze eight country mini-cases based on an eight-facet (2 …

Physics Engine On The Gpu With Opengl Compute Shaders, Quan Huy Minh Bui
Master's Theses
Any kind of graphics simulation can be thought of like a fancy flipbook. This notion is, of course, nothing new. For instance, in a game, the central computing unit (CPU) needs to process frame by frame, figuring out what is happening, and then finally issues draw calls to the graphics processing unit (GPU) to render the frame and display it onto the monitor. Traditionally, the CPU has to process a lot of things: from the creation of the window environment for the processed frames to be displayed, handling game logic, processing artificial intelligence (AI) for non-player characters (NPC), to the …

Gpu High-Performance Framework For Pic-Like Simulation Methods Using The Vulkan® Explicit Api, Kolton Jacob Yager
Master's Theses
Within computational continuum mechanics there exists a large category of simulation methods which operate by tracking Lagrangian particles over an Eulerian background grid. These Lagrangian/Eulerian hybrid methods, descendants of the Particle-In-Cell method (PIC), have proven highly effective at simulating a broad range of materials and mechanics including fluids, solids, granular materials, and plasma. These methods remain an area of active research after several decades, and their applications can be found across scientific, engineering, and entertainment disciplines.
This thesis presents a GPU driven PIC-like simulation framework created using the Vulkan® API. Vulkan is a cross-platform and open-standard explicit API for graphics …
Remote Monitoring Of Memory Data Structures For Malware Detection In A Talos Ii Architecture, Robert A. Willburn
Remote Monitoring Of Memory Data Structures For Malware Detection In A Talos Ii Architecture, Robert A. Willburn
Theses and Dissertations
New forms of malware, namely xC;leless malware and rootkits, pose a threat to traditional anti-malware. In particular, Rootkits have the capacity to obscure the present state of memory from the user space of a target machine. If thishappens, anti-malware running in the user space of an axB;ected machine cannot be trusted to operate properly. To combat this threat, this research proposes the remote monitoring of memory from a second, secure processor runningOpenBMC, serving as a baseboard management controller for a POWER9 processor, which is assumed vulnerable to exploitation. The baseboard management controller includes an application called pdbg, used for debugging …
Cyclic Pursuit, Daniel E. Oke
Cyclic Pursuit, Daniel E. Oke
Theses and Dissertations
This thesis analyzes cyclic pursuit with the intent of developing swarm attack strategies for autonomous agents. Research was focused on finding the effects of pursuers capture range, evader speed and size of formation on the probability of escape. The temporal evolution of several polygonal formations was analyzed. The polygons could be regular or arbitrary polygons. The thesis demonstrated that an increased capture range, formation size, reduced evader speed aided capture probability. Irregular n-gon formations reduced to n-1 gon repeatedly, pursuer clusters formed until two clusters remained which eventually came together, so all the n pursuers coalesced until convergence. Regular n-gon …
Error Detection In Quantum Algorithms, Simeon R. Hanks
Error Detection In Quantum Algorithms, Simeon R. Hanks
Theses and Dissertations
Quantum computers need to be able to control highly entangled quantum states in the presence of environmental perturbations that lead to errors in calculations. Progress in superconducting qubits has enabled the development of computers capable of running small quantum circuits. The current era of Noise Intermediate Scale Quantum computing has a high error rate. To alleviate this error rate we apply an encoding scheme that allows us to remove results with known errors improving the quality of our results. The encoding uses multiple qubits as a single logical qubit and balances the natural tendency of state-of-the-art quantum computers to decohere …
Display Design To Avoid And Mitigate Limit Cycle Oscillations (Lco) On The F-16c, David J. Feibus
Display Design To Avoid And Mitigate Limit Cycle Oscillations (Lco) On The F-16c, David J. Feibus
Theses and Dissertations
The U.S. Air Force F-16 Fighting Falcons flying characteristics and flight envelope are dynamic and defined by its external weapon stores configuration. The employment of its munitions at certain speeds can put the F-16 into a flutter-like state in which Limit Cycle Oscillations (LCO) are induced. In LCO, a pilots fine motor control might be hindered, and the aircraft may lose combat effectiveness until flight conditions are reduced. The current research attempted to provide pilots with a predictive feedback display to avoid an LCO-susceptible configuration by increasing their situation awareness about the consequences of employing certain munitions to their flight …

This platform allows an attacker to mount the skypie to …
A Fixed-Point Method For Computing Steady-State 2d Laser-Fluid Interactions, Jeremiah S. Lane
A Fixed-Point Method For Computing Steady-State 2d Laser-Fluid Interactions, Jeremiah S. Lane
Theses and Dissertations
This research introduces a fixed-point numerical approach for solving the steady-state Navier-Stokes (NS) equations on a finite two-dimensional (2D) domain. The steady-state interaction between a high energy laser beam and its surrounding fluid medium is important to researchers in the field of high energy laser beam propagation. The solutions to the steady-state Navier-Stokes equations provide a model for uncovering the steady-state behavior of the fluid medium, which is useful for the modeling of thermal blooming in laser beam propagation. Numerical solutions remain the only tenable option for solving the NS equations, wherein numerical speed and fidelity beget the utility of …

Solving The Quantum Layout Problem For Nisq-Era Quantum Computers Via Metaheuristic Algorithms, Brian D. Curran Jr.
Solving The Quantum Layout Problem For Nisq-Era Quantum Computers Via Metaheuristic Algorithms, Brian D. Curran Jr.
Theses and Dissertations
In the noisy intermediate-scale quantum (NISQ)-era, quantum computers (QC) are highly prone to noise-related errors and suffer from limited connectivity between their physical qubits. Circuit transformations must be made to abstract circuits to address the noise and hardware constraints of NISQ-era devices. Such transformations introduce additional gates to the original circuit, thereby reducing the circuit's overall fidelity. To address the aforementioned constraints of NISQ-era QCs, dynamic remapping procedures permute logical qubits about physical qubits of the device to increase the fidelity of operations and make operations hardware-compliant. The quantum layout problem (QLP) is the problem of mapping logical qubits of …
Delayed Authentication System For Civilian Satellite, Sean M. Feschak
Delayed Authentication System For Civilian Satellite, Sean M. Feschak
Theses and Dissertations
This thesis presents the feasibility of a Delayed Authentication System (DAS) for civilian satellite navigation (satnav) receivers. In satnav systems, encrypted signal components are transmitted synchronously with civilian components. Hence, the civilian signals can be authenticated by detecting the presence of encrypted signal components within the received signal. To authenticate, a reference station transmits estimated encrypted signal spreading code symbols processed using a high gain antenna. In this thesis, it is shown that a 1-meter diameter dish antenna is adequate to provide a high probability of successful authentication, thereby reducing overall system complexity and cost.
Laser Illuminated Imaging: Beam And Scene Deconvolution Algorithm, Benjamin W. Davis
Laser Illuminated Imaging: Beam And Scene Deconvolution Algorithm, Benjamin W. Davis
Theses and Dissertations
Laser illuminated imaging systems deal with several physical challenges that must be overcome to achieve high-resolution images of the target. Noise sources like background noise, photon counting noise, and laser speckle noise will all greatly affect the imaging systems ability to produce a high-resolution image. An even bigger challenge to laser illuminated imaging systems is atmospheric turbulence and the effect that it will have on the imaging system. The illuminating beam will experience tilt, causing the beam to wander off the center of the target during propagation. The light returning to the detector will similarly be affected by turbulence, and …

Designing And Building A Radar Simulation Using The Entity Component System, Brennen T. Garland
Theses and Dissertations
This research explores the implementation of a "medium fidelity" radar simulation using the Entity-Component-System (ECS) architecture. The radar implemented mimics the fundamental characteristics of entities in the open-source Mixed Reality Simulation Platform (MIXR) project, supporting real-time interaction. Previous research has shown the potential benefits of using an ECS-based architecture to support improved execution performance relative to Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) approaches, thus improved real-time interaction requirements. This research implements a well-documented radar model that supports the development of soft real-time human-based interaction simulations. The radar system modeled in this research mimics the "out-of-the-box" fidelity defined in the OOP-based MIXR architecture. This …

Exploring Fog Of War Concepts In Wargame Scenarios, Dillon N. Tryhorn
Theses and Dissertations
This thesis explores fog of war concepts through three submitted journal articles. The Department of Defense and U.S. Air Force are attempting to analyze war scenarios to aid the decision-making process; fog modeling improves realism in these wargame scenarios. The first article "Navigating an Enemy Contested Area with a Parallel Search Algorithm" [1] investigates a parallel algorithm's speedup, compared to the sequential implementation, with varying map configurations in a tile-based wargame. The parallel speedup tends to exceed 50 but in certain situations. The sequential algorithm outperforms it depending on the configuration of enemy location and amount on the map. The …
Improving Text Classification With Semantic Information, Joshua H. White
Improving Text Classification With Semantic Information, Joshua H. White
Theses and Dissertations
The Air Force contracts a variety of positions, from Information Technology to maintenance services. There is currently no automated way to verify that quotes for services are reasonably priced. Small training data sets and word sense ambiguity are challenges that such a tool would encounter, and additional semantic information could help. This thesis hypothesizes that leveraging a semantic network could improve text-based classification. This thesis uses information from ConceptNet to augment a Naive Bayes Classifier. The leveraged semantic information would add relevant words from the category domain to the model that did not appear in the training data. The experiment …
A Mobile Application For Optimally Matching Real Estate Clients, Yu Karen Asai, Steven Andrew Luu
A Mobile Application For Optimally Matching Real Estate Clients, Yu Karen Asai, Steven Andrew Luu
Computer Science and Software Engineering
Real estate agents are often tasked with finding their clients’ ideal properties. This can be difficult because multiple clients may have varying preferences, such as number of bedrooms, square footage, or price. Furthermore, different clients may weight their individual preferences differently. Existing applications do not consider multiple clients’ satisfaction, nor do they allow clients to weigh their preferences, potentially leading to less-than-ideal matchings between clients and properties.
In this project, we design and implement an iOS application whereby real estate agents can match multiple clients with individually weighted preferences to properties scraped from web listings. We model this client-property matching …

Node Classification On Relational Graphs Using Deep-Rgcns, Nagasai Chandra
Master's Theses
Knowledge Graphs are fascinating concepts in machine learning as they can hold usefully structured information in the form of entities and their relations. Despite the valuable applications of such graphs, most knowledge bases remain incomplete. This missing information harms downstream applications such as information retrieval and opens a window for research in statistical relational learning tasks such as node classification and link prediction. This work proposes a deep learning framework based on existing relational convolutional (R-GCN) layers to learn on highly multi-relational data characteristic of realistic knowledge graphs for node property classification tasks. We propose a deep and improved variant, …
