Password Typo Correction Using Discrete Logarithms, Nikola K. Blanchrad Oct 2019

Password Typo Correction Using Discrete Logarithms, Nikola K. Blanchrad

UBT International Conference

As passwords remain the main online authentication method, focus has shifted from naive entropy to how usability improvements can increase security. Chatterjee et al. recently introduced the first two typotolerant password checkers, which improve usability at no security cost but are technically complex. We look at the more general problem of computing an edit distance between two strings without having direct access to those strings — by storing the equivalent of a hash. We propose a simpler algorithm for this problem that is asymptotically quasi-optimal in both bits stored and exchanged, at the cost of more computation on the server.

Vulnerability Of Passwords Consisting Of Numerical Repetitive Sequences In The Wpa2 Protocol, Genc Kelmendi, Edmond Hajrizi

UBT International Conference

Protocols that govern wireless security WPA2/WPA have been proven much more secure in comparison to their predecessor WEP. However, the human factor jeopardizes the solidity of cryptography by implementing passwords consisting of programmatically predictable numerical structures such as 1234512345, 11114444, 999888777 and so on. This practice endangers the security of the WPA protocol in particular, as the locally stored WPA handshake can be attacked for an unlimited number of times using brute-force attacks. The methods presented in this paper are effective in decrypting such passwords within seconds using ordinary processor power. The prevalence of this vulnerable practice in the Prishtina …

A Gpu-Based Framework For Parallel Spatial Indexing And Query Processing, Zhila Nouri Lewis Oct 2019

A Gpu-Based Framework For Parallel Spatial Indexing And Query Processing, Zhila Nouri Lewis

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

Support for efficient spatial data storage and retrieval have become a vital component in almost all spatial database systems. Previous work has shown the importance of using spatial indexing and parallel computing to speed up such tasks. While GPUs have become a mainstream platform for high-throughput data processing in recent years, exploiting the massively parallel processing power of GPUs is non-trivial. Current approaches that parallelize one query at a time have low work efficiency and cannot make good use of GPU resources. On the other hand, many spatial database applications are busy systems in which a large number of queries …

Conference papers

When deciding about surgical treatment options, an important aspect of the decision-making process is the potential risk of complications. A risk assessment performed by a spinal surgeon is based on their knowledge of the best available evidence and on their own clinical experience. The objective of this work is to demonstrate the differences in the way spine surgeons perceive the importance of attributes used to calculate risk of post-operative and quantify the differences by building individual formal models of risk perceptions. We employ a preference-learning method - ROR-UTADIS - to build surgeon-specific additive value functions for risk of complications. Comparing …

Automated Morgan Keenan Classification Of Observed Stellar Spectra Collected By The Sloan Digital Sky Survey Using A Single Classifier, Michael J. Brice, Răzvan Andonie Oct 2019

Automated Morgan Keenan Classification Of Observed Stellar Spectra Collected By The Sloan Digital Sky Survey Using A Single Classifier, Michael J. Brice, Răzvan Andonie

All Faculty Scholarship for the College of the Sciences

The classification of stellar spectra is a fundamental task in stellar astrophysics. Stellar spectra from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey are applied to standard classification methods, k-nearest neighbors and random forest, to automatically classify the spectra. Stellar spectra are high dimensional data and the dimensionality is reduced using astronomical knowledge because classifiers work in low dimensional space. These methods are utilized to classify the stellar spectra into a complete Morgan Keenan classification (spectral and luminosity) using a single classifier. The motion of stars (radial velocity) causes machine-learning complications through the feature matrix when classifying stellar spectra. Due to the nature …

We contribute empirical findings for accommodating sensory differences for neurodiverse children in a way that supports inclusive play. Specifically, we detail the sensory driven design choices that not only support the enjoyability of the leisure activities, but that also support the social inclusion of sensory-diverse …

Protein Inter-Residue Distance Prediction Using Residual And Capsule Networks, Andrew Dillon Oct 2019

Protein Inter-Residue Distance Prediction Using Residual And Capsule Networks, Andrew Dillon

Theses

The protein folding problem, also known as protein structure prediction, is the task of building three-dimensional protein models given their one-dimensional amino acid sequence. New methods that have been successfully used in the most recent CASP challenge have demonstrated that predicting a protein's inter-residue distances is key to solving this problem. Various deep learning algorithms including fully convolutional neural networks and residual networks have been developed to solve the distance prediction problem. In this work, we develop a hybrid method based on residual networks and capsule networks. We demonstrate that our method can predict distances more accurately than the algorithms …

Computer Science Faculty Publications

In order to simulate virtual agents in the replica of a real facility across a long time span, a crowd simulation engine needs a list of agent arrival and destination locations and times that reflect those seen in the actual facility. Working together with a major metropolitan transportation authority, we propose a specification that can be used to procedurally generate this information. This specification is both uniquely compact and expressive—compact enough to mirror the mental model of building managers and expressive enough to handle the wide variety of crowds seen in real urban environments. We also propose a procedural algorithm …

Effectiveness Of Tools In Identifying Rogue Access Points On A Wireless Network, Ryan Vansickle, Tamirat Abegaz, Bryson Payne

KSU Proceedings on Cybersecurity Education, Research and Practice

Wireless access points have greatly improved users' ability to connect to the Internet. However, they often lack the security mechanisms needed to protect users. Malicious actors could create a rogue access point (RAP), using a device such as the WiFi Pineapple Nano, that could trick users into connecting to an illegitimate access point (AP). To make them look legitimate, adversaries tend to setup RAPs to include a captive portal. This is very effective, since most public networks use captive portals as a means to provide genuine access. The objective of this study is to examine the effectiveness of RAP identification …
