One-Round Attribute-Based Key Exchange In The Multi-Party Setting, Yangguang Tian, Guomin Yang, Yi Mu, Kaitai Liang, Yong Yu
One-Round Attribute-Based Key Exchange In The Multi-Party Setting, Yangguang Tian, Guomin Yang, Yi Mu, Kaitai Liang, Yong Yu
Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems
Attribute-based authenticated key exchange (AB-AKE) is a useful primitive that allows a group of users to establish a shared secret key and at the same time enables fine-grained access control. A straightforward approach to design an AB-AKE protocol is to extend a key exchange protocol using attribute-based authentication technique. However, insider security is a challenge security issue for AB-AKE in the multi-party setting and cannot be solved using the straightforward approach. In addition, many existing key exchange protocols for the multi-party setting (e.g., the well-known Burmester-Desmedt protocol) require multiple broadcast rounds to complete the protocol. In this paper, we propose …
A Method Of Integrating Correlation Structures For A Generalized Recursive Route Choice Model, Tien Mai
A Method Of Integrating Correlation Structures For A Generalized Recursive Route Choice Model, Tien Mai
Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems
We propose a way to estimate a generalized recursive route choice model. The model generalizes other existing recursive models in the literature, i.e., (Fosgerau et al., 2013b; Mai et al., 2015c), while being more flexible since it allows the choice at each stage to be any member of the network multivariate extreme value (network MEV) model (Daly and Bierlaire, 2006). The estimation of the generalized model requires defining a contraction mapping and performing contraction iterations to solve the Bellman’s equation. Given the fact that the contraction mapping is defined based on the choice probability generating functions (CPGF) (Fosgerau et al., …

Finding Causality And Responsibility For Probabilistic Reverse Skyline Query Non-Answers, Yunjun Gao, Qing Liu, Gang Cheng, Linlin Zhou, Baihua Zheng
Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems
Causality and responsibility is an essential tool in the database community for providing intuitive explanations for answers/non-answers to queries. Causality denotes the causes for the answers/non-answers to queries, and responsibility represents the degree of a cause which reflects its influence on the answers/non-answers to queries. In this paper, we study the causality and responsibility problem (CRP) for the non-answers to probabilistic reverse skyline queries (PRSQ). We first formalize CRP on PRSQ, and then, we propose an efficient algorithm termed as CP to compute the causality and responsibility for the non-answers to PRSQ. CP first finds candidate causes, and then, it …
Sla Management In A Collaborative Network Of Federated Clouds: The Cloudland, Asma Obaid Subaih Ai Falasi
Sla Management In A Collaborative Network Of Federated Clouds: The Cloudland, Asma Obaid Subaih Ai Falasi
Theses
Cloud services have always promised to be available, flexible, and speedy. However, not a single Cloud provider can deliver such promises to their distinctly demanding customers. Cloud providers have a constrained geographical presence, and are willing to invest in infrastructure only when it is profitable to them. Cloud federation is a concept that collectively combines segregated Cloud services to create an extended pool of resources for Clouds to competently deliver their promised level of services. This dissertation is concerned with studying the governing aspects related to the federation of Clouds through collaborative networking. The main objective of this dissertation is …

Multi-concept visual classification is emerging as a common environment perception technique, with applications in autonomous mobile robot navigation. Supervised visual classifiers are typically trained with large sets of images, hand annotated by humans with region boundary outlines followed by label assignment. This annotation is time consuming, and unfortunately, a change in environment requires new or additional labeling to adapt visual perception. The time is takes for a human to label new data is what we call adaptation latency. High adaptation latency is not simply undesirable but may be infeasible for scenarios with limited labeling time and resources. In this paper, …
Automatic Pain Assessment From Infants’ Crying Sounds, Chih-Yun Pai
Automatic Pain Assessment From Infants’ Crying Sounds, Chih-Yun Pai
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Crying is infants utilize to express their emotional state. It provides the parents and the nurses a criterion to understand infants’ physiology state. Many researchers have analyzed infants’ crying sounds to diagnose specific diseases or define the reasons for crying. This thesis presents an automatic crying level assessment system to classify infants’ crying sounds that have been recorded under realistic conditions in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) as whimpering or vigorous crying. To analyze the crying signal, Welch’s method and Linear Predictive Coding (LPC) are used to extract spectral features; the average and the standard deviation of the frequency …

Numerous investigations of the mature segments of the East African rift system (EARS) have significantly improved our understanding of the structure and processes associated with well-developed continental rifts. In contrast, knowledge of rifting processes at their early stage is still significantly limited. Here we present results from a teleseismic P-wave tomography investigation of the incipient Okavango rift zone (ORZ), which is located at the southwestern terminus of the EARS. P-wave relative travel-time residuals recorded by 17 recently deployed portable seismic stations were manually picked and inverted for three-dimensional upper-mantle and mantle transition-zone tomographic images beneath the ORZ and its adjacent …

We report on a scalable, portable, and secure visual development environment for programming embedded Arduino platforms with Chromebooks in a successful secondary school computer science curriculum. Our web-based environment is part of the larger MUzECS project, an inexpensive replacement module for the Exploring Computer Science (ECS) course being widely deployed in United States high schools. Students use MUzECS to gain a deeper understanding of computing, through a set of blocks which provide appropriate abstractions for working with low-level hardware.
MUzECS improves upon the existing curriculum module by reducing the hardware cost by an order of magnitude, while still preserving the …

In this work, a neutrosophic network method is proposed for finding the shortest path length with single valued trapezoidal neutrosophic number. The proposed algorithm gives the shortest path length using score function from source node to destination node. Here the weights of the edges are considered to be single valued trapezoidal neutrosophic number. Finally, a numerical example is used to illustrate the efficiency of the proposed approach
On Characterizations And Infinite Divisibility Of Recently Introduced Distributions, Gholamhossein G. Hamedani
On Characterizations And Infinite Divisibility Of Recently Introduced Distributions, Gholamhossein G. Hamedani
Mathematics, Statistics and Computer Science Faculty Research and Publications
We present here characterizations of the most recently introduced continuous univariate distributions based on: (i) a simple relationship between two truncated moments; (ii) truncated moments of certain functions of the 1th order statistic; (iii) truncated moments of certain functions of the nth order statistic; (iv) truncated moment of certain function of the random variable. We like to mention that the characterization (i) which is expressed in terms of the ratio of truncated moments is stable in the sense of weak convergence. We will also point out that some …

Mathematics, Statistics and Computer Science Faculty Research and Publications
Recently, many researchers have developed various classes of continuous probability distributions which can be generated via the generalized Pearson differential equation and other techniques. In this paper, motivated by the importance of the power series in probability theory and its applications, we derive some new classes of univariate exponential power series distributions for a realvalued continuous random variable, which we call exponential power series distributions. Various mathematical properties of the proposed classes of distributions are discussed. Based on these distributional properties, we have established some characterizations of these distributions as well. It is hoped that the findings of the paper …

Hierarchical Visualization Of Video Search Results For Topic-Based Browsing, Yu-Gang Jiang, Jiajun Wang, Qiang Wang, Wei Liu, Chong-Wah Ngo
Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems
Existing video search engines return a ranked list of videos for each user query, which is not convenient for browsing the results of query topics that have multiple facets, such as the "early life," "personal life," and "presidency" of a query "Barack Obama." Organizing video search results into semantically structured hierarchies with nodes covering different topic facets can significantly improve the browsing efficiency for such queries. In this paper, we introduce a hierarchical visualization approach for video search result browsing, which can help users quickly understand the multiple facets of a query topic in a very well-organized manner. Given a …
A Common Misconception In Multi-Label Learning, Michael Benjamin Brodie
A Common Misconception In Multi-Label Learning, Michael Benjamin Brodie
Theses and Dissertations
The majority of current multi-label classification research focuses on learning dependency structures among output labels. This paper provides a novel theoretical view on the purported assumption that effective multi-label classification models must exploit output dependencies. We submit that the flurry of recent dependency-exploiting, multi-label algorithms may stem from the deficiencies in existing datasets, rather than an inherent need to better model dependencies. We introduce a novel categorization of multi-label metrics, namely, evenly and unevenly weighted label metrics. We explore specific features that predispose datasets to improved classification by methods that model label dependence. Additionally, we provide an empirical analysis of …
Early Packet Rejection Using Dynamic Binary Decision Diagram, Vasiqullah Molvizadah
Early Packet Rejection Using Dynamic Binary Decision Diagram, Vasiqullah Molvizadah
Theses
A firewall is a hardware or software device that performs inspection on a given incoming/outgoing packets and decide whether to allow/deny the packet from entering/leaving the system. Firewall filters the packets by using a set of rules called firewall policies. The policies define what type of packets should be allowed or discarded. These policies describe the field values that the packet header must contain in order to match a policy in the firewall. The decision for any given packet is made by finding the first matching firewall policy, if any.
In a traditional firewall, the packet filter goes through each …

This paper highlights and validates the use of shape analysis using Mathematical Morphology tools as a means to develop meaningful clustering of historical data. Furthermore, through clustering more appropriate grouping can be accomplished that can result in the better parameterization or estimation of models. This results in more effective prediction model development. Hence, in an effort to highlight this within the research herein, a Back-Propagation Neural Network is used to validate the classification achieved through the employment of MM tools. Specifically, the Granulometric Size Distribution (GSD) is used to achieve clustering of daily traffic flow patterns based solely on their …
Integration Of Lightweight & Energy Efficient Cipher In Wireless Body Area Network Fore-Health Monitoring, Azza Zayed Aishamsi
Integration Of Lightweight & Energy Efficient Cipher In Wireless Body Area Network Fore-Health Monitoring, Azza Zayed Aishamsi
Theses
There is an increase in the diseases of the circulatory system in United Arab Emirates, which makes it the first leading cause of death. This led to a high demand for a continuous care that can be achieved by adopting an emerging technology of e- Health monitoring system using Wireless Body Area Network (WBAN) that can collect patient’s data. Since patient’s data is private, securing the communication within WBAN becomes highly essential. In this research thesis, we propose an architecture to secure the data transmission within the Wireless Body Area Network (WBAN) in e-Health monitoring. More specifically, our proposed architecture …

Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems
The popularity of social media platforms such as Twitter has led to the proliferation of automated bots, creating both opportunities and challenges in information dissemination, user engagements, and quality of services. Past works on profiling bots had been focused largely on malicious bots, with the assumption that these bots should be removed. In this work, however, we find many bots that are benign, and propose a new, broader categorization of bots based on their behaviors. This includes broadcast, consumption, and spam bots. To facilitate comprehensive analyses of bots and how they compare to human accounts, we develop a systematic profiling …

Privacy-Preserving Outsourced Calculation On Floating Point Numbers, Ximeng Liu, Robert H. Deng, Wenxiu Ding, Rongxing Lu
Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems
In this paper, we propose a framework for privacy-preserving outsourced calculation on floating point numbers (POCF). Using POCF, a user can securely outsource the storing and processing of floating point numbers to a cloud server without compromising on the security of the (original) data and the computed results. In particular, we first present privacy-preserving integer processing protocols for common integer operations. We then present an approach to outsourcing floating point numbers for storage in a privacy-preserving way, and securely processing commonly used floating point number operations on-the-fly. We prove that the proposed POCF achieves the goal of floating point number …

Technology and media are delivering content that is transforming society. Providers must compete for consumer attention to sell their digital information goods effectively. This is challenging, since there is a high level of uncertainty associated with the consumption of such goods. Service providers often use free programming to share product information. We examine the effectiveness of content sampling strategy used for on-demand series dramas, a unique class of entertainment goods. The data were extracted from a large set of household video-on-demand (VoD) viewing records and combined with external data sources. We extended a propensity score matching (PSM) approach to handle …

Loops are challenging structures in program analysis, and an effective loop analysis is crucial in the applications, such as symbolic execution and program verification. In the research, we will first perform a deep analysis and propose a classification according to the complexity of the loops. Then try to propose techniques for analyzing and summarizing different loops. At last, we apply the techniques in multiple applications.

Designing And Evaluating Business Process Models: An Experimental Approach, Yuecheng Martin Yu, Alexander Pelaez, Karl R. Lang
Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems
This paper presents an experimental approach to compare the performance of alternative business process designs. We use an example case of an electronic group buying setting to demonstrate how our approach can be applied in practice. More specifically, we chose a standard business process, the sales process as implemented on a group buying platform, to illustrate how a business process may be redesigned in order to better meet the needs of customers. For that purpose, we introduce a social technology feature to support cooperation among buyers in the sales process and then analyze the performance impact of the proposed business …

Web service composition makes use of existing Web services to build complex business processes. Non-functional requirements are crucial for the Web service composition. In order to satisfy non-functional requirements when composing a Web service, one needs to rely on the estimated quality of the component services. However, estimation is seldom accurate especially in the dynamic environment. Hence, we propose a framework, ADFlow, to monitor and adapt the workflow of the Web service composition when necessary to maximize its ability to satisfy the non-functional requirements automatically. To reduce the monitoring overhead, ADFlow relies on asynchronous monitoring. ADFlow has been implemented and …
Achieving Ind-Cca Security For Functional Encryption For Inner Products, Shiwei Zhang, Yi Mu, Guomin Yang
Achieving Ind-Cca Security For Functional Encryption For Inner Products, Shiwei Zhang, Yi Mu, Guomin Yang
Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems
Functional encryption allows the authorised parties to reveal partial information of the plaintext hidden in a ciphertext while in conventional encryption decryption is all-or-nothing. Focusing on the functionality of inner product evaluation (i.e. given vectors xxxx and yyyy, calculate ⟨xx,yy⟩⟨xx,yy⟩), Abdalla et al. (PKC 2015) proposed a functional encryption scheme for inner product functionality (FE-IP) with s-IND-CPA security. In some recent works by Abdalla et al. (eprint: Report 2016/11) and Agrawal et al. (CRYPTO 2016), IND-CPA secure FE-IP schemes have also been proposed. In order to achieve Indistinguishable under Chosen Ciphertext Attacks (IND-CCA security) for FE-IP, in this paper, we …

On The Security Of Two Identity-Based Conditional Proxy Re-Encryption Schemes, Kai He, Jian Weng, Robert H. Deng, Joseph K. Liu
Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems
Proxy re-encryption allows a semi-trusted proxy with a re-encryption key to convert a delegator's ciphertext into a delegatee's ciphertext, and the semi-trusted proxy cannot learn anything about the underlying plaintext. If a proxy re-encryption scheme is indistinguishable against chosen-ciphertext attacks, its initialized ciphertext should be non-malleable. Otherwise, there might exist an adversary who can break the chosen-ciphertext security of the scheme. Recently, Liang et al. proposed two proxy re-encryption schemes. They claimed that their schemes were chosen-ciphertext secure in the standard model. However, we find that the original ciphertext in their schemes are malleable. Thus, we present some concrete attacks …

A Survey On Wireless Indoor Localization From The Device Perspective, Jiang Xiao, Zimu Zhou, Youwen Yi, Lionel M. Ni
Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems
With the marvelous development of wireless techniques and ubiquitous deployment of wireless systems indoors, myriad indoor location-based services (ILBSs) have permeated into numerous aspects of modern life. The most fundamental functionality is to pinpoint the location of the target via wireless devices. According to how wireless devices interact with the target, wireless indoor localization schemes roughly fall into two categories: device based and device free. In device-based localization, a wireless device (e.g., a smartphone) is attached to the target and computes its location through cooperation with other deployed wireless devices. In device-free localization, the target carries no wireless devices, while …

Product reviews greatly influence purchase decisions in online shopping. A common burden of online shopping is that consumers have to search for the right answers through massive reviews, especially on popular products. Hence, estimating and predicting the helpfulness of reviews become important tasks to directly improve shopping experience. In this paper, we propose a new approach to helpfulness prediction by leveraging aspect analysis of reviews. Our hypothesis is that a helpful review will cover many aspects of a product at different emphasis levels. The first step to tackle this problem is to extract proper aspects. Because related products share common …
