Energy And Communication Efficient Group Key Management Protocol For Hierarchical Sensor Networks, Biswajit Panja, Sanjay Kumar Madria, Bharat Bhargava

Computer Science Faculty Research & Creative Works

In this paper, we describe group key management protocosl for hierarchical sensor networks where instead of using pre-deployed keys, each sensor node generates a partial key dynamically using a function. The function takes partial keys of its children as input. The design of the protocol is motivated by the fact that traditional cryptographic techniques are impractical in sensor networks because of high energy and computational overheads. The group key management protocol supports the establishment of two types of group keys; one for the sensor nodes within a group, and the other in a group of cluster heads. The protocol handles …

Dynamic Composition Of Agent Grammars, Kyle Neumeier Jan 2006

Dynamic Composition Of Agent Grammars, Kyle Neumeier

Inquiry: The University of Arkansas Undergraduate Research Journal

In the very near future, as pervasive computing takes root, there will be an explosion of everyday objects that are uniquely identifiable and wrapped by a computational layer- effectively bringing the object to life. An important component of this system is the mechanism that will allow humans to interface with the objects. Menu Based Natural Language Interfaces (MBNLI) seem like a good candidate for this job because of the intuitive way in which they allow the user to build commands. However, the MBNLI system will have to scale with the number of objects in the system. This project describes context …

Health Information Text Characteristics, Gondy Leroy, Evren Eryilmaz '11, Benjamin T. Laroya Jan 2006

Health Information Text Characteristics, Gondy Leroy, Evren Eryilmaz '11, Benjamin T. Laroya

CGU Faculty Publications and Research

Millions of people search online for medical text, but these texts are often too complicated to understand. Readability evaluations are mostly based on surface metrics such as character or words counts and sentence syntax, but content is ignored. We compared four types of documents, easy and difficult WebMD documents, patient blogs, and patient educational material, for surface and content-based metrics. The documents differed significantly in reading grade levels and vocabulary used. WebMD pages with high readability also used terminology that was more consumer-friendly. Moreover, difficult documents are harder to understand due to their grammar and word choice and because they …

Semantic Tableaux Program, Sirisha Lakshmi Vadaparty Jan 2006

Semantic Tableaux Program, Sirisha Lakshmi Vadaparty

Theses Digitization Project

This project created a program that takes predicate calculus formulas and creates a visual Semantic Tableaux truth tree, thereby proving or disproving a conclusion. Formal methods used in developing and verifying software and hardware are mathematically based techniques for describing and reasoning about system properties. Such formal methods provide frameworks within which people specify, develop, and verify systems in a systematic, rather than ad hoc, manner. Formal methods include the more specific activities of program specification, program verification and hardware verification.

Webisms: (Web-Based Information Security Management System): A Prevention Information Security Tool, Nam Kim Jan 2006

Webisms: (Web-Based Information Security Management System): A Prevention Information Security Tool, Nam Kim

Theses Digitization Project

The impetus for this project came from five years of experience working as a system and network administrator in the California State University, San Bernardino's (CSUSB's) College of Natural Sciences. The college and campus in general are under continual cyber attack, usually by direct-penetration methods and all kinds of viruses, worms, and spywares. This project developed WebISMS as a prevention approach in information security. WebISMS is now deployed in the CSUSB Institute of Applied Supercomputing lab, where it is working efficiently as an information security assessment / audit tool.

Introducing Semantics In Web Personalization: The Role Of Ontologies, Magdalini Eirinaki, Dimitrios Mavroeidis, George Tsatsaronis, Michalis Vazirgiannis Jan 2006

Introducing Semantics In Web Personalization: The Role Of Ontologies, Magdalini Eirinaki, Dimitrios Mavroeidis, George Tsatsaronis, Michalis Vazirgiannis

Faculty Publications

Web personalization is the process of customizing a web site to the needs of each specific user or set of users. Personalization of a web site may be performed by the provision of recommendations to the users, high-lighting/adding links, creation of index pages, etc. The web personalization systems are mainly based on the exploitation of the navigational patterns of the web site’s visitors. When a personalization system relies solely on usage-based results, however, valuable information conceptually related to what is finally recommended may be missed. The exploitation of the web pages’ semantics can considerably improve the results of web usage …

Advancing Candidate Link Generation For Requirements Tracing: The Study Of Methods, Jane Huffman Hayes, Alex Dekhtyar, Senthil Karthikeyan Sundaram

Computer Science and Software Engineering

This paper addresses the issues related to improving the overall quality of the dynamic candidate link generation for the requirements tracing process for verification and validation and independent verification and validation analysts. The contribution of the paper is four-fold: we define goals for a tracing tool based on analyst responsibilities in the tracing process, we introduce several new measures for validating that the goals have been satisfied, we implement analyst feedback in the tracing process, and we present a prototype tool that we built, RETRO (REquirements TRacing On-target), to address these goals. We also present the results of a study …
