Depression Classification On Privacy Protected Facial Features Data, Yanisa Mahayossanunt

Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)

This thesis presents depression classification on privacy protected facial features data. Fast depression classification to help patients receive proper treatment is a method that can prevent the damage of depression. However, fast and effective depression classification is difficult because medical personnel are adequate and the time to analyze depression is long per patient. Applied artificial intelligence in the medical field can help reduce the workload of medical personnel. It is also difficult because of privacy protection. Therefore, we utilize extracted facial features from facial expressions in clinical interview videos to develop a machine learning model. The model utilizes LSTM, attention …

Adversarial Training Of Deep Neural Networks, Anabetsy Termini Jan 2023

Adversarial Training Of Deep Neural Networks, Anabetsy Termini

CCAC Theses and Dissertations

Deep neural networks used for image classification are highly susceptible to adversarial attacks. The de facto method to increase adversarial robustness is to train neural networks with a mixture of adversarial images and unperturbed images. However, this method leads to robust overfitting, where the network primarily learns to recognize one specific type of attack used to generate the images while remaining vulnerable to others after training. In this dissertation, we performed a rigorous study to understand whether combinations of state of the art data augmentation methods with Stochastic Weight Averaging improve adversarial robustness and diminish adversarial overfitting across a wide …

Integrating The Spatial Pyramid Pooling Into 3d Convolutional Neural Networks For Cerebral Microbleeds Detection, Andre Accioly Veira

CCAC Theses and Dissertations

Cerebral microbleeds (CMB) are small foci of chronic blood products in brain tissues that are critical markers for cerebral amyloid angiopathy. CMB increases the risk of symptomatic intracerebral hemorrhage and ischemic stroke. CMB can also cause structural damage to brain tissues resulting in neurologic dysfunction, cognitive impairment, and dementia. Due to the paramagnetic properties of blood degradation products, CMB can be better visualized via susceptibility-weighted imaging (SWI) than magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).CMB identification and classification have been based mainly on human visual identification of SWI features via shape, size, and intensity information. However, manual interpretation can be biased. Visual screening …

Towards Robust Consensus For Intelligent Decision-Making In Iot Blockchain Networks, Charles Rawlins, S. (Sarangapani) Jagannathan

Electrical and Computer Engineering Faculty Research & Creative Works

Distributed consensus is the core aspect of blockchain protocol security design. Recent protocols like IOTA have improved concurrency and scalability over Proof-of-work (PoW) with Bitcoin but have core design decisions that are inefficient for limited devices and do not take advantage of previous network experience to reduce calculations. This work proposes the first blockchain consensus protocol based on active machine-learning decisions, called Proof-of-history (PoH). PoH is setup as a distributed reinforcement-learning task for monitoring classification and training of blockchain transactions with an inner deep classifier. Early theoretical analysis and simulations show that PoH is robust to uncoordinated byzantine attacks through …

Electrical and Computer Engineering Faculty Research & Creative Works

This study provides a lifelong integral reinforcement learning (LIRL)-based optimal tracking scheme for uncertain nonlinear continuous-time (CT) systems using multilayer neural network (MNN). In this LIRL framework, the optimal control policies are generated by using both the critic neural network (NN) weights and single-layer NN identifier. The critic MNN weight tuning is accomplished using an improved singular value decomposition (SVD) of its activation function gradient. The NN identifier, on the other hand, provides the control coefficient matrix for computing the control policies. An online weight velocity attenuation (WVA)-based consolidation scheme is proposed wherein the significance of weights is derived by …

A Structure-Aware Generative Adversarial Network For Bilingual Lexicon Induction, Bocheng Han, Qian Tao, Lusi Li, Zhihao Xiong

Computer Science Faculty Publications

Bilingual lexicon induction (BLI) is the task of inducing word translations with a learned mapping function that aligns monolingual word embedding spaces in two different languages. However, most previous methods treat word embeddings as isolated entities and fail to jointly consider both the intra-space and inter-space topological relations between words. This limitation makes it challenging to align words from embedding spaces with distinct topological structures, especially when the assumption of isomorphism may not hold. To this end, we propose a novel approach called the Structure-Aware Generative Adversarial Network (SA-GAN) model to explicitly capture multiple topological structure information to achieve accurate …

Dfhic: A Dilated Full Convolution Model To Enhance The Resolution Of Hi-C Data, Bin Wang, Kun Liu, Yaohang Li, Jianxin Wang

Computer Science Faculty Publications

Motivation: Hi-C technology has been the most widely used chromosome conformation capture(3C) experiment that measures the frequency of all paired interactions in the entire genome, which is a powerful tool for studying the 3D structure of the genome. The fineness of the constructed genome structure depends on the resolution of Hi-C data. However, due to the fact that high-resolution Hi-C data require deep sequencing and thus high experimental cost, most available Hi-C data are in low-resolution. Hence, it is essential to enhance the quality of Hi-C data by developing the effective computational methods.

Results: In this work, we propose …

Efficient Gpu Implementation Of Automatic Differentiation For Computational Fluid Dynamics, Mohammad Zubair, Desh Ranjan, Aaron Walden, Gabriel Nastac, Eric Nielsen, Boris Diskin, Marc Paterno, Samuel Jung, Joshua Hoke Davis

Computer Science Faculty Publications

Many scientific and engineering applications require repeated calculations of derivatives of output functions with respect to input parameters. Automatic Differentiation (AD) is a method that automates derivative calculations and can significantly speed up code development. In Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), derivatives of flux functions with respect to state variables (Jacobian) are needed for efficient solutions of the nonlinear governing equations. AD of flux functions on graphics processing units (GPUs) is challenging as flux computations involve many intermediate variables that create high register pressure and require significant memory traffic because of the need to store the derivatives. This paper presents a …

An Adaptive Image Restoration Algorithm Based On Hybrid Total Variation Regularization, Cong Thang Pham, Thi Thu Thao Tran, Hung Vi Dang, Hoai Phuong Dang

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

In imaging systems, the mixed Poisson-Gaussian noise (MPGN) model can accurately describe the noise present. Total variation (TV) regularization-based methods have been widely utilized for Poisson-Gaussian removal with edge-preserving. However, TV regularization sometimes causes staircase artifacts with piecewise constants. To overcome this issue, we propose a new model in which the regularization term is represented by a combination of total variation and high-order total variation. We study the existence and uniqueness of the minimizer for the considered model. Numerically, the minimization problem can be efficiently solved by the alternating minimization method. Furthermore, we give rigorous convergence analyses of our algorithm. …

An Effective Hilbert-Huang Transform-Based Approach For Dynamic Eccentricity Fault Diagnosis In Double-Rotor Double-Sided Stator Structure Axial Flux Permanent Magnet Generator Under Various Load And Speed Conditions, Makan Torabi, Yousef Alinejad Beromi

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

Eccentricity fault in double-sided axial flux permanent magnet generator is very difficult to be detected as the fault generated variations in terminal electrical parameters are very weak and chaotic, especially at the initial stages of the fault occurrence. In addition, one of the most important problems in any fault diagnosis approach is the investigation of load and speed variation on the proposed indices. To overcome the aforementioned difficulty and problems, this paper adopts a novelty detection algorithm based on Hilbert-Huang transform (HHT) which is a time-frequency signal analysis approach based on empirical mode decomposition and the Hilbert transform. It is …
