Enhanced Mechanical Strength Of Soybean Oil-Based Non-Isocyanate Polyurethane Adhesive For Wood Application By Introducing Nanofillers, Vatsal Chaudhari Dec 2023

Enhanced Mechanical Strength Of Soybean Oil-Based Non-Isocyanate Polyurethane Adhesive For Wood Application By Introducing Nanofillers, Vatsal Chaudhari

Electronic Theses & Dissertations

Polyurethane (PU) is a versatile material that finds extensive use in various industries including bedding, construction, automotive, and packaging. Historically, this particular polymer relied significantly on petrochemical resources, a practice that was considered to have negative environmental impacts. The conventional method for preparing PU involves the use of isocyanate, which is a disadvantage due to its negative impact on the environment and human health. The resolution of this problem entails identifying an appropriate substitute for petroleum-derived products that minimize their impact on both the environment and human health. The researchers earlier utilized soybean oil, for the formulation of PUs in …

Exploring Soybean Oil-Based Polyol And Effect Of Non-Halogenated Flame Retardants In Rigid Polyurethane Foam, Sahithi Kondaveeti Dec 2023

Exploring Soybean Oil-Based Polyol And Effect Of Non-Halogenated Flame Retardants In Rigid Polyurethane Foam, Sahithi Kondaveeti

Electronic Theses & Dissertations

To address the increasing demand for sustainable biomaterials due to the depletion of fossil fuel resources and growing environmental concerns, a new type of biodegradable and environmentally friendly rigid polyurethane foam (RPUF) has been synthesized. These foams are derived from chemically modified soybean oil-based polyol obtained from soybean oil by epoxidation followed by a ring-opening reaction. Polyurethane foam is generally used in construction, furniture, and automobile industries but is highly flammable and releases toxic gases and smoke during combustion. In this study, a highly efficient synergistic effect halogen-free flame-retardant (FR) melamine salt, 2-carboxyethyl(phenyl)phosphinic acid melamine salt (CMA) was synthesized from …

A Detailed Study Of Novel High-Performance Bromine And Phosphorus Based Reactive Flame Retardants In High-Quality Bio-Polyol Based Rigid Polyurethane Foams, Sanket Bhoyate May 2018

A Detailed Study Of Novel High-Performance Bromine And Phosphorus Based Reactive Flame Retardants In High-Quality Bio-Polyol Based Rigid Polyurethane Foams, Sanket Bhoyate

Electronic Theses & Dissertations

Structural fire is one of the most catastrophic issues related to human safety observed from reports of National Fire Protection Association of United States in past years. Polyurethanes are one of the important structural material used as thermal insulation in housing. They are also used in automotive, construction, medical, packaging, furniture, thermal, electrical, and vibration insulation. Considering this, we have synthesized bio-based polyurethane foams using limonene-based polyol, isocyanates, and other compounds. Flame retardancy was imparted using reactive flame retardant polyols. Firstly, flame retardancy test was performed on the foams using two novel aliphatic and two novel aromatic bromine-based synthesized reactive …

Electronic Theses & Dissertations

NANOCOMPOSITES OF POLYPYRROLE AND COBALT OXIDE AS EFFICIENT AND STABLE MULTIFUNCTIONAL MATERIALS FOR SUPERCAPACITORS AND OVERALL WATER SPLITTING

An Abstract of the Thesis by

Ahlam Alghamdi

The main objective of this study is to synthesize nanostructured cobalt oxide decorated on polypyrrole using a facile method for energy applications. For this, polypyrrole was first synthesized using a chemical polymerization method. In the second step, a varying amount of cobalt oxide was decorated on polypyrrole using a hydrothermal process. The synthesized materials were structurally and electrochemically characterized. It was observed that the electrochemical properties of the composites depend on their composition. The …

Graphene Nanoribbons And Their Polymeric Nanocomposites: Controlled Synthesis, Characterization And Applications, Nada M. Aljehany May 2017

Graphene Nanoribbons And Their Polymeric Nanocomposites: Controlled Synthesis, Characterization And Applications, Nada M. Aljehany

Electronic Theses & Dissertations

Carbon based materials are very promising as electrode materials energy generation and storage devices. They have been used for fuel cells, supercapacitors and solar cells. Among the carbon-based materials, graphene is very attractive due to its unique properties such as high electrical conductivity, good mechanical flexibility, large theoretical surface area (2630 m2/g), and high thermal and chemical stability. These unique properties make them very suitable for energy storage applications particularly for supercapacitors. The performance of the graphene as energy storage material could be further improved by growing them in nanoribbon form by unzipping carbon nanotubes. In this thesis, …
