Mechanistic Study Of Cooperative Ligand-Centered Reactivity In Triaminoborane-Bridged Diphosphine Complexes, Clara Kirkvold
Mechanistic Study Of Cooperative Ligand-Centered Reactivity In Triaminoborane-Bridged Diphosphine Complexes, Clara Kirkvold
Honors Thesis
Reactive ligand platforms containing trisubstituted boranes have been effective in promoting new types of small molecule reactivity and catalysis with transition metals. Our project is aimed at developing triaminoborane-bridged diphosphines that participate in cooperative ligand-centered reactivity while bound to transitions metals. Here we present a density functional theory (DFT) mechanistic study on a series of ligand centered reactions at a boron center on a metal complex, PhTBDPhosMCl2 (M = Ni or Pd and TBDPhos = 1,8,10,9-triazaboradecalin). Our work focuses specifically on the nickel complexes. PhTBDPhosNiCl2 can react with several molecules to produce trans H-X addition (X=OH …
Synthesis Of Unsymmetrical Bidentate Ligands From Secondary Phosphine Oxides, Malachy J. Brink, Ryan Anderson
Synthesis Of Unsymmetrical Bidentate Ligands From Secondary Phosphine Oxides, Malachy J. Brink, Ryan Anderson
Student Research, Papers, and Creative Works
Stereochemistry is a key component in the field of asymmetric catalysis. The properties of a molecule can be drastically changed with the change of one stereocenter. Typically, chirality is imparted to a metal by the ligand. "Chiral-at-metal" compounds are unique because the metal complex is chiral, but the ligands are not. Phosphine ligands are notoriously difficult to work with (pyrophoric, toxic, prone to oxidation). The goal of this research was to prepare unsymmetrical bidentate ligands using secondary phosphine oxides, which are air-stable and easy to handle on the benchtop.

Nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (nAChRs) are neuron receptor proteins that provide a transmission of nerve impulse through the synapses. They are composed of a pentametric assembly of five homologous subunits (5 α7 subunits for α7nAChR, for example), oriented around the central pore. These receptors might be found in the chemical synapses of central and peripheral nervous system, and also in the neuromuscular synapses. Transmembrane domain of the one of such receptors constitutes ion channel. The conductive properties of ion channel strongly depend on the receptor conformation changes in the response of binding with some molecule, f.e. acetylcholine. Investigation of interaction between …

Polydisperse samples of Au nanoparticles protected with monolayers of hexanethiolate ligands (C6 MPCs) and with mixed monolayers of hexanethiolate and mercaptounde- canoic acid (C6/MUA MPCs) have been chromatographically separated using C8 120-Å columns and acetone/toluene mobile phase. The spectral details of eluted peaks and of quantized double-layer charging features in the differential pulse voltammetry of collected fractions were used to show that the elution orders of C6 MPC mixtures and of C6/MUA MPC mixtures were different. For C6 MPCs, the smallest MPCs were eluted first, whereas the smallest C6/MUA MPCs were eluted last. The reversal of order of elution was …
Ion Selective Electrodes Based On Aza- Substituted Crown Ethers, Lisa Ann Wellington
Ion Selective Electrodes Based On Aza- Substituted Crown Ethers, Lisa Ann Wellington
Retrospective Theses and Dissertations
A cation-responsive electrode system has been developed which incorporates aza-substituted crown ethers as ligands. In a novel application, uncomplexed crown ethers were used in the pelletized form for ionic transport. Electrodes have been produced which can be conditioned for a particular ion and following their use, be reconditioned and reused for other ions. Preparation method and lifetime studies are included.
The responses of two crown ethers with plasticizers were evaluated for thirteen representative cations. The concentration range covered in each evaluation was 1 x 10-1 to 1 x 10-7 M. For those ions exhibiting Nernstian or near-Nernstian response, …
