Coordination polymers have been a topic of interest because of the large variety of applications these materials have. in particular Metal-Organic Frameworks (MOFs) have been researched due to their porosity and simple synthetic pathways. Structurally a MOF is composed of one or more organic ligands serving as the backbone of the structure. These ligands are complexed with metal ions coordinating into the desired structure. It is this structure that gives way to a variable porosity useful for proton conductivity and material transport.
