The electroluminescence of porous silicon in solutions at positive biases was investigated by luminescence spectrometer. The electroluminescence of porous silicon in solutions mainly depended on its surface properties. The elelctroluminescence was much enhanced when the sample of porous silicon was electrolyzed once again which had undergone an electroluminescence test. The tests of both cyclic voltammetry and the luminescence of the sample of porous silicon prepared by repeated electrolysis provided further evidence that the electroluminescence of porous silicon in solutions at positive biases stemmed from the oxidation of Si-H on the surface of porous silicon. The electrochemical oxidation of several 1-arylthioglycosides has been studied by cyclic voltammetry in acetonitrile. We found that the oxidation potential of the \alpha anomer always occurs at a less positive oxidation potential than of the \beta anomer. The difference in the oxidation potential depends on the substituent attached on the C-3 of the sugar moiety and is greatly influenced by the stability of the radical cation obtained after the first electron transfer.

In this study, the electrochemical behaviour of 4' -halogene-N,N-dimethyl-4-aminoazobenzene derivatives were investigated using various polarographic and voltammetric methods. The peak potentials of these derivatives were observed to shift towards negative values with increase in pH. The standard rate constants were determined with (Laviron technique) or without (Nicholson and Klingler-Kochi techniques) taking the adsorption phenomena into account. The diffusion coefficients were calculated from the cyclic voltammetric data using the method developed by Garrido. The amount of adsorbed substances (surface excess values) and transfer coefficients for the electron transfer were also determined. The effect of calcium on the properties of molybdenum nitride film electrode wasstudied by using XRD, SEM and cyclic voltammetry. The results show that the specific electriccapacity and the voltage operating range of electrode vary with the concentration of additive in thedipping solution. At the optimum concentration of additive in the dipping solution, the specificelectric capacity of the electrode is 2.1 times as large as that of the electrode prepared in the dipping solution without additive, and the voltage operating range of electrode is increased by 0.11 V. Desized polyacrylonitrile (PAN) based carbon fibers (CF) were chemically and electrochemically oxidized and reduced. CF surfaces were activated via cyclic voltammetry studies with anodic and cathodic scans. The changes in CF surfaces were studied by contact angle measurements. Lifshitz-van der Waals and acid-base components of single fibers were determined. In general, oxidation resulted in the formation of an acidic surface energy component and reduction gave rise to no change in the number of basic functionalities at the CF surface.

Ir-Ta-Ti metal oxide coated titanium anodes of variable composition were prepared by thermal decomposition. Their micro morphorogies and electrochemical properties were characterized by scanning electron microscope, open circuit potential, cyclic voltammetry, consumption rate measurements and accelerated life test. The SEM results indicated that all coatings were of a porous and cracked-mud microstructure influenced greatly by the composition of coatings. The electrochemical measurements showed that the Ir-Ta-Ti ternary oxide-coated anodes exhibited excellent electrochemical activity and electrochemical stability in both acidic media and seawater which were affected by the composition and microstructure of the coatings. The electron-transfer process of superoxide dismutase was investigated by cyclic voltammetry at the 4,4'-dithiodipyridine, L-cysteine, histidine and arginine modified gold wire electrodes repectively. The quasi-reversible behavior was observed at L-cysteine modified gold electrode. An irreversible electrochemical behavior has been observed at hisdinine modified gold wire electrode.

In presence of a cationic surfactant HTAB,linear potential scans for Na2S at graphite anode in both saturated sodium tetra-borate solution and 1 mol·L-1 NaOH solution, have been investigated. Results show that anodic current density increases and peak potentials shift to more negative with the increase of HTAB concentrations. The anodic current densities increased by addition of HTAB are larger in 1 mol·L-1 NaOH than those in saturated sodium tetra-borate solution, resulting from different acting forces of HTAB with various charged electro-active species. A new method for preparing Pt-supported bilayer lipid membrane (Pt-BLM) on Pt electrode cleaned by high power ultrasound was reported. The reported method was convenient, costing less platinum and could be used to form large-area Pt-BLM as compared with the traditional Pt-wire-cutting method. The electrical properties of Pt-BLM were studied using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and cyclic voltammetry. Experimental results showed that the values of membrane capacitance and the voltammetric characteristics were consistent with those of Pt-BLM prepared by traditional method.

The Potential for the electrochemical synthesis of FeS electrode has been obtained by cyclic voltammetry. FeS electrodes were synthesiaed by controlling Fe electrode at -1.0 V in LiCl-KCl-Li2S and Li(FClI)-Li2S melts and their behavior were measured also. The FeS electrode synthesized in molten Li(FClI)-Li2S has the best charge and discharge properties.

A study of cyclic voltammetric behavior of the nereistoxin pesticide known as Shachongdan is reported. The effects of scan rate, electrolyte pH, and concentration are discussed.The study shows that this electrode process is an irreversible electrode reaction. The saturate adsorption of dihydronereistoxin on the electrode is also discussed with the saturate adsorption amount of 8.23×10-10 mol/cm2.

Cyclic voltammetry of ferrocene dicarboxylate in aqueous solutions at high pH, in the presence of oxygen, showed evidence of an EC' mechanism where the oxidised form of ferrocene dicarboxylate reacts with H02- , which had been produced at a lower potential. However, an analogous experiment with ferrocene carboxylate yielded a cyclic voltammogram with a post peak: following the anodic peak: for ferrocene carboxylate. The reason for the post peak: is not clear but may be due to a delay in the reaction between the oxidised form of ferrocene carboxylate and H02-.

The effect of Br- anion on electrochemical behavior of (TPP)Co was investigated in 1,2 dichloroethane solution by microelectrode and thin layer cyclic voltammetry technique. It was found that the axially coordination of one Br- anion to (TPP)Co(Ⅲ)(Br-)2 shifts the potential of porphyrin system to more positive value. The reduction peak of 0.12 V (vs.SCE) is attributed to the reduction of (TPP)Co(Ⅲ)(Br-). It is also postulated that the reduction of (TPP)Co(Ⅲ)(Br-)2 occurred at a more negative potential where the reduction of the Co(Ⅱ)/Co(Ⅰ) process happened.

The interaction between rare earth ions(e.g. Eu3+ ,Ce3+, Er3+, Sm3+, Tb3+, La3+ and Nd3+) and DNA had been investigated by using Cyclic Voltammetry, Ultraviolet and Raman Spectroscopy. After the adding of Ce3+ ion to DNA solution, the cathodic peak current of Ce3+ ion reduction was found to decrease obviously, and the anodic peak current to decrease even more significantly. A poly [N-(3-ferrocene-acetamino-propyl-pyrrole)] film modified electrode was fabricated and studied by cyclic voltammetric method. The result shows that the modified electrode can give stable redox peaks of ferrocene, and an obvious catalytic peak due to glucose. This modified electrode was used to tabricate a glucose sensor which operates at +0.2 V, so that the ascorbic acid or uric acid doesn't affect the accuracy detection of glucose concentration. The sensor has a linear range of 0.1~10 mmol/L glucose, which the period of long term stability and response time of the sensor are about ten days and 2 min.

The migration of Samarium(Ⅲ) across water/nitrobenzene (w/nb) interface facilitated by diantipyrylmethane (DAM) and the electrochemical behaviour affected by emulsifier OP in the nb phase have been studied by normal and convolute cyclic voltammetry. It is concluded that the formation of the complex occurs at w/nb interface and the mechanism of the samarium(Ⅲ)transfer across w/nb interface facilitated by DAM is E mechanism.

The electrochemistry of (TPP)Co in presence of pyridine was investigated in dichloroethane solution by cyclic voltammetry. Upon the addition of pyridine to the solution, two reduction peaks of Co(Ⅲ)/Co(Ⅱ) at 0.25 and -0.40 V (SCE) were observed. It was infered that the peaks were belong to the reductions of the complex compounds with one and two axial pyridine, (TPP)Co(Ⅲ)(Py) and (TPP)Co(Ⅲ)(Py)2. Even though the mole ratio of added pyridine was less than 1 the reduction of Co(Ⅲ)/Co(Ⅱ) still mainly occured at -0.40 V, which evidently resulted from pyridine adsorption on the electrodes. Negative electrode made from Cu microencapsulated hydrogen storage alloy was studied by using cyclic voltammetry method. The results showed that copper as a coating material was of a certain stability in 5 mol/L KOH solution within the range of charge and discharge voltage. But when expanding the sweep voltage, the CV curve showed a pair of distinct oxidation reduction current peaks of Cu2O formation at E = -0.3 V and Cu2O reduction at E =-0.6 V. The electrochemical behavior of superoxide dismutase (Cu, Zn-SOD) was investigated on gold wire electrode and gold minigrid with thin layer cell by cyclic voltammetry. A quasi reversible redox wave of SOD has obtained on gold minigrid thin layer electrode, but only oxidation peak has observed on gold wire electrode. The electrochemical reaction parameters, such as the formal potential E0′, diffusion coefficient D and standard rate constant k0′ were estimated.

In this paper, a quantitative method by use of powder microelectrode combined with cyclic voltammetry and galvanostatic step is described for studying the electrochemical performance characteristic of hydrogen storage alloy(MH). Since the powder microelectrode uses only MH powder and has its depth and diameter of several tens of micrometer, the ohmic and concentration ploarization are greatly reduced and the influences of the technical factors in electrode preparation on the material performance are simply eliminated. A new method of ohmic potential drop correction for use with potential step and sweep voltammetric methods is described. The method, iterative correction of the applied potential (ICAP), essentially replaces an electronic positive feedback correction with a digital positive feedback correction. This paper will present one form of the ICAP procedure, in which voltammetric current data acquired by a high-speed digital oscilloscope are used to iteratively generate a compensating potential waveform that is then synthesized by an arbitrary waveform generator. The formation and voltam metric behavior of manganese chlorophyll werestudied. The electrochemical red uction mechanism of Mn chlorophyll a (MnChla) in aqueous solution was investigated and discussed. During the electrored uction of MnChla, the porphyrin ring was singlyreduced with 2 electrons and the Mn2+ ion remained its original state. The reduction rate constant km=0.36/s was gained.

The reduction of yttrium ion on copper electrode in NaCl-KCl-YCl3 molten saltshas been investigated. The results indicate that the formation of intermetallic compounds is occuredbefore the metallic yttrium to be formed. The formation of intermetallic compounds is controlled bythe process of which yttrium atoms are diffusing into copper electrode. The kinetic characters todiffusion of yttrium atoms were also discussed.

Polypyrrole was deposited from solutions of NaCIO. and NaDBS, where DBS is dodecylbenzenesulfonate in aqueous solu\ion and characterizcd by voltammetry. It is found that the absence of the so-called 'double laver charging current' during cyclic voltammetry of the layers formed from solutions with surfactant is not because of' the" order in morphology of the layer, but irreversible incorporation of' the surfactant anion.

The Electrochemical Oxidation Of Substituted Catechols, Michael D. Ryan, Alice Yueh, Wen-Yu Chen

The oxidation of substituted catechols was studied by cyclic voltammetry, chronoamperometry, rotating ring‐disk electrode, and coulometry. The results showed that the quinones that were formed from the oxidation of substituted catechols reacted with the basic forms of the starting material to yield the dimeric product. These products were generally unstable and rapidly polymerized or underwent some other irreversible reaction to form an electroinactive product. For 3,4‐dihydroxyacetophenone and propriophenone, the intermediate was stable long enough to be observed in cyclic voltammetry. The rate of the coupling reaction was found to correlate well with the Hammett ρ‐σ parameters and indicated that there …

The Effect Of Slow Two‐Electron Transfers And Disproportionation On Cyclic Voltammograms, Michael D. Ryan

The EE mechanism (two‐electron transfer) for cyclic voltammetry was investigated in considerable detail along with the effect of disproportionation. The theory was developed for either the first or second electron transfer being slow while the other one was reversible. It was possible to develop generalized working curves for the height and shape of the wave regardless of the difference in Eo's and the values of α and Ks. This theory was then applied to the analysis of the reduction of benzil in the presence of alkaline earth ions in dimethylformamide.
