α-Mangostin has been identified as a major chemical constituent in the pericarps of mangosteen (Garcinia mangostana Linn.) Over time, dried pericarps of mangosteen have been subjected to studies in literature. This study aimed to explore isolation of α-mangostin and other chemical constituents from the fresh pericarps of mature mangosteen fruits and investigate their relative antioxidant and anticancer activities. Repeated column chromatography on ethyl acetate and methanol extracts of fresh mature mangosteen pericarps led to the isolation of α-mangostin (33.25% of crude extracts) as the major compound, beta-mangostin (0.225%) and gartanin (7.57%). A total integrated electrocolorimetric sensing approach consisting of gel-based electromembrane extraction and colorimetric detection in one-step process was developed. This system was designed using colorimetric reagents preadded to the agarose gel for the determination of the following two model analytes: iodide for negative ions and nickel for positive ions. In this system, when a voltage was applied, the analytes were extracted and transferred from the sample solution (donor phase) to the gel (acceptor phase). Layered double hydroxides (LDHs) or hydrotalcite compounds are referred to anionic clays with specific anion adsorption and exchanging properties. These behaviors are similar to ionophores and ionic additives in ion selective electrodes (ISEs). Therefore, in this study LDHs was used to function as tailor-made ionophores for particular anions and ionic additives in ISEs. MgAl LDHs were prepared, and then modified the intercalated anions to be NO3-. The selective polymeric membrane was casted using PVC and MgAl LDHs-NO3-. Novel approaches were developed for the colorimetric detection of norfloxacin and ceftazidime using chemically modified polymer resin and cotton sponge as sensing materials, respectively. For norfloxacin detection, the optimum condition was achieved by using a resin modified with 6.0 µM Congo red at pH 6 to extract norfloxacin in 10 mL of sample at pH 2. The reaction was completed within 15 minutes. Regarding ceftazidime detection, a cotton sponge functionalized with polyethyleneimine (PEI) was fabricated and characterized by FTIR, SEM, and ninhydrin test. In this dissertation, nickel(II) complexes featuring N4-Schiff base macrocycles derived from diphenylamine-2,2'-dicarboxaldehyde (1-Ni and 2-Ni) with a new crystal structure ([2-Ni]Me) were synthesized and investigated for electrochemical CO2 reduction (ECR). Cyclic voltammetry (CV) of two nickel complexes, 1-Ni and 2-Ni, illustrated the catalytic response whereas one, [2-Ni]Me, virtually remained peak-shaped in the presence of CO2, indicating the feasibility of ECR activity for these nickel complexes. To develop heterogeneous ECR catalysts in aqueous media, all nickel complexes were adhered on N-doped graphene (NG) through non-covalent interaction, obtaining Ni@NG hybrid catalysts. In the presence of trimethylsilyl trifluoromethanesulfonate (TMSOTf) and 2,6-lutidine, α,α-disubstituted aldehydes condense with electron-rich aromatic aldehydes to yield β, β- disubstituted styrenes. More electron-rich aromatic aldehydes react more rapidly and in higher yield. Preliminary results suggest that the reaction may proceed via the ionization and formal deformylation of an aldol intermediate.

In the present study, Ag nanoparticles (AgNPs) were synthesized from Salvia officinalis and Thymus vulgaris, known as phytotherapy plants. The obtained silver nanoparticles were characterized using SEM, XRD, FTIR, and UV/Vis spectra. The antioxidant capacities of Salvia officinalis-mediated AgNP (SO-AgNP) and Thymus vulgaris-mediated AgNP (TV-AgNP) were analyzed in vitro using 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl and iron chelating activity assays. DPPH activities were 83.74% and 57.17% for SO-AgNP and TV-AgNP at concentration 200 mg/L, respectively. Both green synthesized AgNPs exhibited good iron chelating activity. The aim of this study was the determination of chromatographic profiles of major whey proteins (WP): α-lactalbumin (α-La), β-lactoglobulin A and B, (β-Lg A and B), bovine serum albumin (BSA) in dairy beverages based on Zonar milk serum. This study investigated the protein adsorption interactions of bovine serum albumin (BSA) with three different functionalized 5 nm gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) in order to determine the binding affinity and total amount of protein adsorbed to each AuNP surface chemistry. Different derivatives of imatinib were synthesized by a 3-step reaction method. The structures of the new compounds were characterized by spectroscopic methods. For quantitative evaluation of the biological activity of the compounds, MTT assays were performed, where four BCR-ABL negative leukemic cell lines (Jurkat, Reh, Nalm-6 and Molt-4), one BCR-ABL positive cell line (K562), and one non-leukemic cell line (Hek293T) were incubated with various concentrations of the derivatives. Although imatinib was specifically designed for the BCR-ABL protein, our results showed that it was also effective on BCR-ABL negative cell lines except for Reh cell line. Mechanical And Wetting Properties Of Coated Paper Sheets With Varying Polydimethylsiloxane Molecular Masses In The Coating Formulation, Çağla Söz

Coated paper sheets were prepared by immobilizing a thin coating layer of cross-linked polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) and inorganic particles onto Whatman filter paper Grade 1 (WFP) substrates. Several coatings that differed in terms of their PDMS molecular masses were sprayed onto WFP substrates to investigate the effect of this variation on the (i) wettability and (ii) mechanical properties of the samples. Different samples having clay or silica particles in the coating formulation were investigated separately. Nonwettable coated paper sheets with promising mechanical properties were achieved and further investigated in terms of (iii) thermal resistance.

Hybrid nanostructures decorated with glycopolymers are appropriate for biomedical applications. In this paper, the results are obtained from nanographene (NG) decorated with glycoblock copolymer to increase their potential in use in therapies and in examining lectin interactions. A pyren-1-ylmethyl 4-cyano-4-((phenylcarbonothioyl)thio)pentanoate (CPADB-py) chain transfer agent was used in the synthesis of methyl methacrylate glycoblock copolymers (P2 and P3) by reversible addition-fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) polymerization to adhere the polymer to the nanographene surface. Hybrid nanographenes (NG-1 and NG-2) were obtained by the non-covalent interaction of deprotected P2 and P3 with different fructopyranose groups (3-O-methacryloyl-1,2:4,5- di-O-isopropylidene-β-D-fructopyranose and 1-O-methacryloyl-2,3:4,5-di-O-isopropylidene-β-D-fructopyranose) in their backbones. Sorbitol is one of the platform chemicals and can be produced from various renewable and sustainable sources via different processes. Hydrothermal liquefaction is an effective and promising approach to produce sorbitol, since the subcritical reaction media and appropriate catalysts provide a selective production of platform chemicals. In this study, sorbitol was produced from different renewable sources (cellulose and glucose) in the presence of Ru-based catalysts (Ru/SiO2, Ru/AC, Ru/SBA-15, and Ru/SBA-15-SO3) under subcritical conditions. This ligand forms strongly colored complexes with metal ions and this ability to form complexes can be used for extraction/removal of certain metal ions in addition to analytical determination. Microwave irradiation has become a routine technique in homogeneous and effective heating in organic synthesis. However, its application in enzyme-containing reactions is limited since it can cause denaturation of the enzyme. In this study, we have briefly investigated the effect of microwave heating on the conjugation reaction of horseradish peroxidase (HRP) with aldehyde derivative of dextran (D-CHO). The reaction was irradiated by microwave at 50 °C for 5 min. The conjugate was confirmed via GPC, in which the conjugates of HRP and D-CHO coexist with free unbound HRP molecules. This paper reports effects of ultraviolet (UV) light radiation on the physicochemical, electrical and mechanical properties of low-density polyethylene (LDPE) cable insulating materials. Changes in structural and morphological properties of UV-aged samples were characterized by various analytical methods such as attenuated total reflection Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (ATRFTIR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and atomic force microscopy (AFM). Additionally, elongation at break, tensile strength, dielectric strength, and optical properties were also evaluated.
