Turkish Journal of Chemistry
A series of cholesterol and based hydrophobic urea and thiourea compounds were synthesized and successfully used as a cocatalyst for L-proline catalyzed aldol reactions in the presence of water. The anticonfigured products were obtained with good yields (up to 94%), high diastereoselectivities (up to 95:5), and high enantiomeric excesses (up to 93% ee). The successful results for catalytic efficiency of L-proline in the presence of water reveal the importance of the hydrophobic nature of cholesterol and diosgenin parts of thiourea on the reactivity and selectivity in the presence of water.

Synthesis And Structural Analysis Of Nonstoichiometric Ternary Fulleride K1.5ba0.25csc60, Havva Esma Okur Kutay
Turkish Journal of Chemistry
The existence of cation-vacancy sites in fullerides might lead to long-range ordering and generate a new vacancy-ordered superstructure. The purpose of this work is to search whether or not long-range ordering of vacant tetrahedral sites, namely superstructure emerges in nonstoichiometric K1.5Ba0.25CsC60 fulleride. Therefore, K1.5Ba0.25CsC60 with cation-vacancy sites is synthesized using a precursor method to avoid inadequate stoichiometry control and formation of impurity phases within the target composition. For this purpose, first, phase-pure K6C60, Ba6C60 and Cs6C60 precursors are synthesized. Stoichiometric quantities of these precursors are used for further reaction with C60 to afford K1.5Ba0.25CsC60. Rietveld analysis of the high-resolution synchrotron …

Effective Synthesis Of Bicyclodienes Via Palladium-Catalyzed Asymmetric Allylic Alkylationand Ruthenium-Catalyzed Cycloisomerization, Ni̇zam Havare
Turkish Journal of Chemistry
[n.3.0]Bicycles (n = 3-6) can be synthesized using palladium-catalyzed asymmetric allylic alkylation followed by rutheniumcatalyzed cycloisomerization. New types of triarylphosphino-1,2-diaminooxazoline ligands show the same high levels of enantioselectivity observed with Trost ligand when employed in Pd-catalyzed allylic alkylation reactions. The enyne products of these allylic alkylation reactions were further elaborated using a Ru-catalyzed redox isomerization process, for which a mechanism is proposed.

In this study, boric acid (BA) is employed as a crosslinking agent to improve the characteristics of two commonly used polymeric films, ethyl cellulose (EC) and polyvinyl alcohol (PVA), for topical drug delivery applications. The developed films are characterized by FTIR spectroscopy and SEM analysis. The results show that the surfaces of the prepared films are even and transparent, except for the BA-modified EC sample. The initial cumulative release for erythromycin (EM) is found to be 0.30 and 0.36 mg/mL for EC and PVA films, which drops to 0.25 and 0.20 mg/mL after BA crosslinking, respectively, after 1 h at …

In the present work, pyrene-boron-dipyrromethene (BODIPY)-substituted novel water-soluble cyclotriphosphazene derivatives (6 and 7) were synthesized by click reactions between a cyclotriphosphazene derivative with a hydrophilic glycol side group (2) and BODIPYs (4 and 5). All of the new compounds (2, 6, and 7) were characterized by Fourier-transform infrared and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, as well as mass spectrometry and elemental analysis. The photophysical properties of the BODIPY-substituted cyclotriphosphazenes (6 and 7) were investigated by UV-Vis and fluorescence emission spectroscopy in water and water/solvent mixtures. It was found that the target compounds were soluble in water and could be potential candidates …

In this study, a series of cyclotriphosphazene derivatives containing a Schiff base (3a-3d) were synthesized by the reactions of hexachlorocyclotriphosphazene (1) with bis-aryl Schiff bases (2a-2d) having different terminal groups (H, F, Cl, and Br). The products (3a-3d) were characterized by elemental and mass analyses, FT-IR, and $^{1}$H, $^{13}$C, and 31 P NMR spectroscopies. Furthermore, the structure of compound 3a was also determined by X-ray crystallography. The thermal behaviors and the spectral properties of the new cyclotriphosphazene compounds (3a-3d) were investigated and the results were compared in the series.

The nucleophilic substitution reactions of mono- and bis-spiro-2,2' -dioxybiphenyl cyclotriphosphazenes (3 and 4) with cyclopropanemethylamine (5) and aniline (6) were performed in the presence of trimethylamine in THF. Five novel cyclopropanemethylamino- and anilino-substituted spiro-2,2' -dioxybiphenyl cyclotriphosphazene derivatives (7-11) were obtained from these reactions. The molecular structures of the new cyclotriphosphazene derivatives (7- 11) were characterized by elemental analysis, MALDI-TOF MS, FT-IR, and NMR ( $^{31}$P and $^{1}$H) spectroscopies. The structure of the spiro-(2,2' -dioxybiphenyl)-bis-(anilino)-cyclotriphosphazene (11) was also determined by single-crystal X-ray crystallography.

Nitrogen-doped carbon nanodots (CDs) were prepared via the solvothermal method, using urea and triethylene glycol as the starting materials. The as-prepared CDs had individual diameters of approximately 100 nm and were in clusters of different sizes. The surface composition and optical properties of the as-prepared CDs were characterized. They exhibited multicolor emission properties in the visible range when excited with a wide wavelength range. The aqueous solution of the CDs was used in highly sensitive tartrazine determination. The fluorescence quenching of the CDs was in a linear relationship with the concentrations of tartrazine in the range of 0.5-30.0 μM. The …
