Turkish Journal of Chemistry
Two novel C_2-symmetric chiral diamines containing \alpha -phenylethyl and \alpha -(1-naphthyl)ethyl chiral subunits were prepared with quantitative yields. Enantiomeric recognition properties of these simple structured diamine ligands towards D- and L-amino acid esters and D- and L-mandelic acid were examined by the ^1H NMR titration method. These ligands exhibited strong complexation (with K_f up to 2481 M^{-1}) and good enantioselectivity (up to K_L/K_D = 4.08) towards the mandelic acid enantiomers. The results show that simple structured and easily accessible acyclic C_2-symmetrical compounds can also be used for enantiomeric recognition of racemic amino acids and mandelic acid in addition to complex …

Codeine is an opium alkaloid with a great potential of abuse among opioid consumers. Detection of codeine is a routine procedure in the military and government of some countries for personnel recruitment. Therefore, a specific, selective, and easy to use method would be an important improvement in such detection procedures. According to previous reports, short single-stranded DNA or RNA sequences with high affinity and specificity to their targets, aptamers, could be used for designing an accurate and specific biosensor for codeine. This study introduces an aptamer-based biosensor for codeine detection in nanomolar concentrations by an electrochemical method, and ferrocene carboxylic …

Exploring Distinct Binding Site Regions Of \Beta_2-Adrenergic Receptor Via Coarse-Grained Molecular Dynamics Simulations, Si̇bel Çakan, Ebru Demet Akdoğan
Turkish Journal of Chemistry
\beta_2-Adrenergic receptor (\beta_2AR) is a G protein- coupled receptor that is highly flexible and able to recognize a wide range of ligands through its conformational variations. Active and inactive conformations revealed by recent crystallographic experiments do not provide a complete dynamic picture of the receptor, especially in the binding site. In this study, molecular dynamics (MD) simulation through a residue-based coarse-grained model is used as an alternative and efficient method to explore a wider conformational search space. The system was composed of \beta_2AR embedded into a 1-palmitoyl-2-oleoyl-phosphatidylcholine membrane bilayer with surrounding water. A total of 6 \mu s of simulation …

Quasielastic Light Scattering Studies Of Polypeptides: Evidence For Chain Extension In Solution, Mehmet Bahatti̇n Baysal, Çi̇ğdem Karadağ
Turkish Journal of Chemistry
Dynamic light scattering and viscosimetric methods were used to study polypeptides including polyleucine, poly (\gamma-benzyl-L-glutamate), poly (\alpha-L-glutamic acid), and polyproline II. Chain extension showing rod-like and flexible conformations occurred in poly(\gamma -benzyl-L-glutamate) and polyproline II solutions as these solutions were diluted in glacial acetic acid or in a mixed solvent of acetic acid and dichloromethane. The elongation of chains in poly(\gamma -benzyl-L-glutamate) and polyproline II solutions was studied by dynamic light scattering and viscosimetric methods. This nonenzymatic growth of peptide chains provides data on primordial synthesis of protein molecules in the absence of cell machinery and for this reason these …

Asymmetric Synthesis Of \Alpha-(Heteroaryl)Alkylamines And \Alpha -Amino Acids Via Nucleophilic 1,2-Addition Of Lithiated Heterocycles To Aldehyde Samp-Hydrazones, Dieter Enders, Giuseppe Del Signore, Gerhard Raabe
Turkish Journal of Chemistry
The asymmetric synthesis of \alpha-(heteroaryl)alkylamines was accomplished by employing a diastereoselective nucleophilic 1,2-addition of lithiated aromatic heterocycles to aldehyde SAMP-hydrazones, followed by BH_3 . THF or SmI_2 promoted removal of the chiral auxiliary. The CBz or benzoyl-protected amines were obtained in good yields (40\%--78\%) and excellent enantiomeric excesses (ee = 88\%--99\%). The methodology can be applied to the synthesis of highly enantioenriched \alpha-amino acids (ee = 90\%--99\%).

Dft Study Of Tautomerism In Aklavinone, Burhan Lemi̇ Türker
Turkish Journal of Chemistry
Aklavinone has an anthraquinone-based chromophore and its backbone highly resembles the kernel of some anthracycline antibiotics that possess anticancer activity, e.g., daunomycin. Since aklavinone's structure possesses many --OH groups and 2 keto groups, it is quite probable that certain tautomeric equilibria may occur. Presently, aklavinone prototropic tautomers possessing embedded anthraquinone moiety have been investigated quantum chemically by using density functional theory at the levels of RB3LYP/6-31G(d) and RB3LYP/6-31G(d,p). Additionally, IR spectra of the tautomers were calculated. Moreover, the phenolate ions obtained from the most stable tautomer in water were considered, and the protonation of this tautomer at various possible sites …

Synthesis Of Fused Tetrazolone Derivatives, Sevi̇l Özcan, Zeynep Ekmekçi̇, Berk Müjde, Meti̇n Balci
Turkish Journal of Chemistry
New fused tetrazolone derivatives were synthesized using homophthalic and maleic anhydrides. Treatment of anhydrides with trimethylsilyl azide opened the lactone rings and formed the corresponding intermediates, which bore 1,3-dipole and dipolarophile functionalities in ortho positions. The intermediates partially underwent internal 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition to produce fused tetrazolone derivatives. When the carbonyl groups in anhydride were not conjugated with any double bond, then a triazine-fused tetrazolone derivative was formed.

Turkish Journal of Chemistry
In this paper, synthesis of tetrakis(carboxyphenyl)porphyrin (TCPP) coated cadmium ferrite (CdFe_2O_4) nanoparticles by using L-lysine as an anchor is reported for the first time. The ferrimagnetic CdFe_2O_4 nanoparticles were prepared via the facile self-assembly method of reflux followed by a heating treatment. The obtained magnetic nanoparticles were coated with TCPP in the presence of the amino acid L-lysine by sonication in ethanol and then refluxing for 12 h. The structural characteristics of the products were determined using FT-IR and XRD pattern. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) images indicated uniform morphologies of the magnetic nanoparticles with an average size of 43 nm. …

Synthesis Of New N-[3-(Benzo[D]Thiazol-2-Yl)-4-Methylthiazol-2(3h)-Ylidene] Substituted Benzamides, Aamer Saeed, Hummera Rafique
Turkish Journal of Chemistry
A series of novel N-[3-(2-benzo[d]thiazol-2-yl)-4-methylthiazol-2(3H)-ylidene] substituted benzamides (2a--k) were efficiently synthesized by heterocyclization of the corresponding 1-(benzo[d]thiazol-2-yl)-3-aroylthioureas (1a--k). The cyclization was achieved by the reaction of \alpha-bromoacteone produced in situ using bromine in dry acetone in the presence of triethylamine.

Turkish Journal of Chemistry
The essential oils of Actinolema macrolema Boiss. (Apiaceae) were obtained by hydrodistillation in the first 3 (sample A) and the following 3 h (sample B) from crushed fruits and dried leaves (sample C), which were subsequently analyzed by GC and GC-MS. Overall, 64 components were characterized, representing 93% of the leaf oil. Thirty components were characterized from the fruit oil representing 95% of the first fraction and 90% of the second fraction consecutively. Guaia-5,7(11)-diene, selina-3,7(11)-diene, and juniper camphor were isolated from the oils by column chromatography and their structures were elucidated by GC-MS, ^1H NMR, and ^{13}C NMR. The occurrence …

Comparative Study Of Microwave-Assisted And Conventional Synthesis Of Ibuprofen-Based Acyl Hydrazone Derivatives, Ayşe Uzgören Baran
Turkish Journal of Chemistry
A series of potential biological active acyl hydrazone derivatives containing ibuprofen moiety (compounds 4a--4p) was synthesized by the condensation of ibuprofen hydrazone with aromatic aldehydes using conventional and microwave irradiation methods. The microwave method was found to be successful with nearly the same or higher yields and shorter reaction time, and it was more environmentally friendly compared to the conventional heating method. The chemical structures of the synthesized compounds were characterized by IR, ^1H NMR, and APT-NMR spectroscopy.

Turkish Journal of Chemistry
The Cu(I)-based complex prepared from (S)-2-(furan-2-yl-methylamino)-2-phenylethanol (5c) and CuCl was used as catalyst in enantioselective Henry reactions of arylaldehydes and nitromethane, which gave 89% ee and 95% yield at ambient temperature. The proposed catalytic cycle of an asymmetric Henry reaction was suggested.
