Numerous inInvestigations into the preparation, properties, and effects plant growth substances have been carried out. It has been shown that phenoxyacetic acids, napthoxyacetic acids, esters, anides and salts of phenoxyacetic acids and certain substituted products of these acids are plant growth promoting substances.
It is the purpose ot this work to produce esters of phenoxyacetic and napthoxyacetic acids which contain a secondary amino group and as a result of their ability to form acid salts, such as hydrochlorides, water soluble compounds. These compounds would be readily applicable to plants in sprays.

"The industrial growth of aliphatic chemistry, which has constituted one of the outstanding advances of recent years, has been almost entirely in the field of hydrocarbons and their simpler chlorine and oxygen derivatives… Representative of the aliphatic amines, possibly only the methyl, amyl and ethanol amines may be said to have been commercially available. And yet the field of aliphatic nitrogen chemistry possesses the greatest variety of known aliphatic compounds; there are at least several nitrogen analogs of each oxygen compound, often more stable, more definitely characterized, and more reactive chemically." This work was begun in an attempt to study further the preparation of thianthrene from 2-dichlorobenzene and alkali sulfides. g_-Dichlorobenzene is a liquid by-product in the preparation of its solid isomer, E-dichlorobenzene, which is used extensively for controlling moths and peach tree borers. The study of the preparation of thianthrene from the liquid isomer was undertaken because the preparation might develop into a possible use for the large quantities available.
Thianthrene might be made from 2-dibromo- and 2-diiodo-benzene but these are not as cheap or as easily obtained as the dichloro derivative and were not used in this study various …

When insulin, a substance which is used to reduce sugar in the blood is hydrolysed, products are obtained bearing some similarity to creatinine. Therefore, reasoning conversely, creatinine derivatives might be expected to posses as a hypo- glycemic (sugar reducing) effect.
