The present investigation is emphasized on the effect of various combustion agents on the crystal properties, surface microstructure, and oxygen ion conductivity of 20% mole-Sm doped ceria (Ce0.80Sm0.20O1.90/SDC20) ceramics as solid electrolyte for ITSOFCs. The most widely used combustion agents for engineering ceramic production as ethylene glycol, diethylene glycol, triethylene glycol, L-alanine, L-valine, glycine, citric acid monohydrate, urea, and EDTA-citric acid were compared in terms of SDC20 properties. X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) were used to determine the microstructure properties, crystal structure and ionic conductivity of SDC20 powder. XRD pattern …

Textile azo dyes are one of the pollutants in waste water that adversely affect human and environmental health. Removal of these chemicals from wastewater is important for eco-system and human health. In this study, Bi2O3 nanoflakes and ZnO were synthesized by the co-precipitation method. Adsorption and photocatalytic degradation reactions were carried out to remove dyes (Victoria blue (VB) and Malachite green (MG)) from wastewater with the photocatalysts. In order to improve the activity of catalysts, cetyltrimethylammoniumbromide (CTAB) was added as a surfactant to pure oxide structures, and Bi2O3-CTAB and ZnO-CTAB catalysts were prepared. The structural and morphological properties of these …

Investigation Of Pzt-5h And Pzt-8 Type Piezoelectric Effect On Cycling Stability On Si-Mwcnt Containing Anode Materials, Mehbare Doğrusöz, Muhammed Taha Demi̇rkan, Rezan Demi̇r Çakan
Turkish Journal of Chemistry
Silicon (Si) containing materials cannot be used in commercial lithium ion batteries due to the mechanical stress problem triggered by volume expansion during cycling. The high-volume change causes mechanical instability of Si anode materials during charging/discharging, resulting fast capacity fading. It is thought that piezoelectric materials can be a solution for the volume expansion problem because of their ability to generate electric field when pressure is applied on them. For this purpose, PZT-8 and PZT-5H type piezoelectric materials were mixed with silicon and multiwalled carbon nanotube (MWCNT) to obtain anode composites and tested electrochemically versus lithium metal. The piezoelectiric effect …

Characterization Of Extracts From Papaver Rhoeas And Potential Valorization Of Theseextracts In Dyeing Applications, Mohand Ouidir Boussoum, Rachida Ouldmokhtar, Abdelkader Ali Nehari, Beatrice George
Turkish Journal of Chemistry
The aim of our work is to study the dyeing properties of extracts from natural sources such as Papaver rhoeas by modifying the conditions of the dyeing process, choosing other substrates that could be pretreated by innovative and environmentally friendly processes. The results obtained show a fairly high fixation of the extracts on the natural and artificial fibers. The use of mordants allowed the dye to be better fixed on the dyed fibers and to give several shades to the fabric. The rate of essential oil contained in Papaver rhoeas was considered important by the Clevenger process. Screening of extractive …

The catalytic activity of poly(N-vinylimidazole), a biocompatible and biodegradable synthetic functional polymer, was investigated for the synthesis of oximes as an efficient, halogen-free, and reusable heterogeneous catalyst. The corresponding oximes were afforded in high to excellent yields at room temperature and in short times using the planetary ball mill technique. Some merits, such as the short reaction times and good yields for poorly active carbonyl compounds, and avoiding toxic, expensive, metal-containing catalysts, and hazardous and flammable solvents, can be mentioned for the current catalytic synthesis of the oximes. Furthermore, the heterogeneous organocatalyst could be easily separated after the reaction, and …

Turkish Journal of Chemistry
A series of polymer/clay nanocomposites containing mechanistically two different polymers, poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) and poly(epsilon caprolactone) (PCL), were prepared by simultaneous copper(I)-catalyzed alkyne-azide cycloaddition click reactions. Both clickable polymers, PEG-Alkyne and PCL-Alkyne, were simultaneously clicked on to azide-functional montmorillonite (MMT-N3) nanoclay to get corresponding PEG-PCL/MMT nanocomposites. The chemical structures of the resulting nanocomposites were verified by following azide and silicone-oxygen bands using FT-IR and characteristic bands of PEG and PCL segments using 1H-NMR spectroscopy. The combined XRD and TEM analysis confirmed that all PEG-PCL/MMT nanocomposites had partially exfoliated/ intercalated morphologies. In addition, the increase of MMT-N3 loading not only improved …

The Protective Role Of Melatonin Under Heavy Metal-Induced Stress In Melissa Officinalis L., Elvisa Hodzic, Semira Galijasevic, Milica Balaban, Sebila Rekanovic, Halid Makic, Biljana Kukavica, Dijana Mihajlovic
Turkish Journal of Chemistry
Heavy metals, due to their inability to degrade, pose a serious environmental and nutritional problem. The accumulation of essential and non-essential heavy metals in living organisms reduces normal growth and development, resulting in acute poisoning, disease and even death of organisms. Melatonin is a very important multifunctional molecule in protecting plants from oxidative stress due to its ability to directly neutralize reactive oxygen species (ROS). Also, melatonin has a chelating property, which may contribute in reducing metal-induced toxicity. In this paper, the protective role of melatonin in counteracting metal-induced free radical generation was highlighted. Using the HPLC-FLD technique melatonin was …

The molecular structure of bis(2-isobutyrylamidophenyl)amine (H3LNNN) has been determined from single-crystal X-ray diffraction data. The crystal packing of H3LNNN is governed by the N-H...O and C-H...O hydrogen-bonding and C-H...π stacking interactions between the vicinal molecules. The intermolecular interactions in the crystal structure of H3LNNN have been also examined via Hirshfeld surface analysis and fingerprint plots. The Hirshfeld surface analysis showed that the important role of N-H...O and C-H...π interactions in the solid-state structure of H3LNNN. The molecular structure, vibrational frequencies, and infrared intensities of H3LNNN were computed by ab initio HF and DFT (B3LYP, B3PW91, and BLYP) methods using the …

A general synthetic method was improved to synthesize a chemosensor based on a tripodal Bodipy (t-BODIPY) structure. The product and its intermediate products were successfully prepared and fully characterized. The metal ion sensing performance of the tripodal compound was evaluated by UV/Vis and fluorescence spectroscopies. According to the obtained data, t-BODIPY is a selective and sensitive fluorescence probe for detection of Cu2+ ions in the presence and in the absence of competing ions. This chemosensor presents relatively a low detection limit of 5.4 x10-7 M for Cu2+. Bio-imaging studies on living yeast cells suggest that t-BODIPY has some advantages over …
