Efficient Synthesis Of Imidazole Derivatives: An Important Synthon For The Preparation Of Biologically Active Compounds, Asghar Davood, Eskandar Alipour, Abbas Shafiee
Turkish Journal of Chemistry
4(5)-Chloro-imidazole-5(4)-carboxaldehyde derivatives are important precursors for the preparation of biologically active compounds. We developed a simple, novel, and efficient method for the synthesis of these compounds. The chemistry described is amenable to large-scale use and is flexible enough to allow the preparation of analogs.
Electrocatalytic Oxidation Of D-Glucose Using A Cd Ad-Atom-Modified Au(111) Electrode In Alkaline Solution, Zekerya Dursun, Sami Ben Aoun, Isao Taniguchi
Electrocatalytic Oxidation Of D-Glucose Using A Cd Ad-Atom-Modified Au(111) Electrode In Alkaline Solution, Zekerya Dursun, Sami Ben Aoun, Isao Taniguchi
Turkish Journal of Chemistry
Au(111) single crystal electrodes were modified by underpotential deposition (UPD) of Cd ad-atoms with different coverages, which were used for the electrocatalytic oxidation of glucose in alkaline media. The catalytic activity of the electrodes was dependent on how the Cd ad-atoms covered the surface. Under the presented experimental conditions the monolayer (ML) Cd ad-atom-covered Au(111) electrode had the best catalytic activity on D-glucose oxidation, in terms of both potential shifts and peak current increases, as compared to the 0.11, 0.5, and 2 ML covered and bare Au(111) electrodes. Double layer capacity measurements revealed that the shifts of the potential of …

Solid Phase Extraction Of Cadmium In Edible Oils Using Zinc Piperazinedithiocarbamate And Its Determination By Flame Atomic Absorption Spectrometry, Mehtap Yağan Aşci, Ayşegül Efendi̇oğlu, Beki̇r Bati
Turkish Journal of Chemistry
A method was developed for preconcentration of cadmium with zinc-piperazinedithiocarbamate (ZnPDC) in edible oils and its determination by flame atomic absorption spectrometer (FAAS). The preconcentration method is based on the adsorption of the Cd(II) on to ZnPDC and the elution of them with mercury(II) nitrate. The accuracy of the method was tested with standard reference material (CONOSTAN S-21) and Cd added samples. Under optimum conditions, the recovery and the detection limit for cadmium were 99.67% (\pm 0.67) and 0.028 mg/L, respectively. The calibration curve was linear over the concentration range 0.1-3.0 mg/L (r^2 = 0.9979). The proposed method was applied …

All solid-state contact poly vinyl chloride (PVC) membrane potassium-selective electrode has been developed. The construction of the ion selective electrode membrane was organized using ionophore 4,4'-bis[4''-phenoxy(15-crown-5) methyl]benzyl in PVC cocktail. The potentiometric performance characteristics of the electrode were investigated by a computerized system. The electrode was found highly selective to K^+ ions over a wide variety of other cations. The electrode almost exhibited a Nernstian response (\ge 55 (\pm15) mV/decade of K activity) to K^+ within the concentration range 1.5 x 10^{-1} - 1.0 \times 10^{-5} M. The operational pH range of the electrode was 5--7. The response time of …

Electrocatalytic Oxidation Of Hydroxylamine At A Quinizarine Modified Glassy Carbon Electrode: Application To Differential Pulse Voltammetry Detection Of Hydroxylamine, Mohammad Mazloumardakani, Payam Ebrahimi Karami, Hossein Naeimi, Bibifatemeh Mirjalili
Turkish Journal of Chemistry
The electrocatalytic behavior of hydroxylamine was studied on a glassy carbon electrode modified by electrodeposition of quinizarine, using cyclic voltammetry, chronoamperometry, and rotating disk voltammetry as diagnostic techniques. Cyclic voltammetry showed that the catalytic current of the system depends on the concentration of hydroxylamine. The magnitude of the peak current for quinizarine increased sharply in the presence of hydroxylamine and proportional to hydroxylamine concentration. The diffusion coefficient of hydroxylamine and the catalytic rate constant for the catalytic reaction of quinizarine with hydroxylamine were also estimated using a rotating disk electrode experiment. The kinetics parameters of this process were calculated, and …

Hydrogenation Of Citral Over Ni And Ni-Sn Catalysts, Hi̇lal Aykaç, Selahatti̇n Yilmaz
Turkish Journal of Chemistry
Liquid phase citral hydrogenation over zeolite-supported monometallic Ni and bimetallic Ni-Sn catalysts was studied. The zeolite support materials were Na-Y, Na-mordenite, and clinoptilolite. Ni and Sn contents of the monometallic and bimetallic catalysts were 8.1-9.2 wt% and 0.46 wt%, respectively. The type of the zeolite support affected the activity and selectivity of the catalysts differently. The main product of the citral hydrogenation reaction was citronellal, for both monometallic (84.5% yield) and bimetallic (44.5% yield) catalysts. The addition of promoter increased the selectivity to unsaturated alcohols (geraniol+nerol), i.e. it changed from 0.9% to 6.3% over mordenite and from 0.9% to 2.1% …

Turkish Journal of Chemistry
The kinetics of ruthenium(III)-catalyzed oxidation of TREN, i.e. tris(2-amino ethyl)amine(3-hydrochloride) by an outer sphere electron transfer oxidant, potassium hexacyanoferrate(III), was investigated spectrophotometrically in aqueous alkaline medium. The extent of the reaction was followed by registering a decrease in absorbance at 420 nm (\lambda_{max} of Fe(CN)_6^{3-}) due to its consumption as a function of [OH^-], ionic strength, [Fe(CN)_6^{3-}], [TREN], and temperature by varying only one variable at a time and keeping all other variables constant. The rate data indicate that the reaction exhibited first order dependence in [oxidant] and at a lower concentrations of reductant. The overall reaction follows second order …

The micron-sized cationic hydrogel particles were very effective in the removal of arsenic from an aqueous environment- 96% of the arsenic was removed in less than 10 min from a 55-ppm aqueous stock solution. Cationic …

The reaction of pyridine carboxamide oximes with \alpha-aminoacid ester led to the formation of 3,5-disubstituted-1,2,4-oxadiazin-6-ones (5) in moderate yields. The structures of the prepared compound were evaluated by spectroscopy. Some of the representatives of 3,4-disubstituted-1,2,4- oxadiazin-5-ones, thiones, and 3,5-disubstituted-1,2,4-oxadiazin-6-ones were screened for antibacterial activity using disc diffusion. It was …

Zinc Perchlorate Hexahydrate Catalyzed Mono- And Bis-Transesterification Of Malonic Esters, Servet Tural
Turkish Journal of Chemistry
Commercially available zinc perchlorate hexahydrate [Zn(ClO_4)_2.6H_2O] was found to be a highly effective catalyst for the transesterification of malonic esters with alcohols. The treatment of methyl-, ethyl-, or \alpha-substituted malonic esters with primary or secondary alcohols in the presence of a catalytic amount of zinc perchlorate results in good to high yields of the corresponding esters (68%-99%). Mono-transesterification products are also obtained in moderate to good yields (22%-42%). The reaction was also carried out with 2-mono- and di-substituted malonic esters, and in the case of 2-mono- and di-substituted malonic esters, the reaction time is, in some cases, shorter, in which …
