The synthesis of a novel series of pyridine and bipyridine derivatives is described via one-pot multicomponent reaction of 5-acetylimidazole, malonitrile (or ethylcyanoacetate or diethylmalonate), substituted benzaldehyde (or terephthaldehyde), and ammonium acetate in good yields. The structures of all the new compounds were elucidated on the basis of elemental analysis and spectral data. The antimicrobial activities of the synthesized compounds were screened and the results showed that most of such compounds exhibit considerable activities. Furthermore, some of the newly synthesized compounds were screened for their anticancer activity against human breast cell line (MCF-7) and liver carcinoma cell line (HEPG2) in comparison …

Encapsulation Of Copper(Ii) Complexes With Three Dentate No$_{2}$ Ligands Derived From 2,6-Pyridinedicarboxylic Acid In Nay Zeolite, Massomeh Ghorbanloo, Somayeh Ghamari, Hidenori Yahiro
Turkish Journal of Chemistry
2,6-Pyridinedicarboxylic acid (H$_{2}$dipic) reacts with copper-exchanged zeolite NaY to form [Cu(dipic)(H$_{2}$O)$_{2}$]$_{n}$, which is encapsulated in the pores of the zeolite. In this zeolite-encapsulated form, the copper derivative functions as an efficient catalyst for the oxidation of cyclohexene, toluene, cyclohexane, and ethyl benzene in the presence of hydrogen peroxide (as an oxidant). The catalyst was readily recovered from the reaction mixture, and it could be reused for an additional three runs without perceptible loss of activity. The heterogeneous catalyst exhibited considerably higher activity and selectivity compared with [Cu(dipic)(H$_{2}$O)$_{2}$]$_{n}$ itself.

Glutamic functionalized water-soluble perylene diimide, N, N'-di (L-glutamic amine)-perylene-3,4,9,10-tetracarboxylic diimide (GAPTCD) has three absorbance maxima at 469, 498, and 534 nm and two emission peaks at 550 and 587 nm. Owing to the highly negative electrostatic potential of the perylene plane, the perylene derivative showed good water solubility and strong fluorescence in alkali and neutral solutions. Both the absorbance and emission intensities decreased with the decreasing of pH from 9.66 to 5.92. This could be ascribed to the $\pi -\pi $ stacking produced by H$^{+}$ at the carboxyl group due to its electron accepting nature. Electrostatic potential maps also indicated …

Pd(0) nanoparticles supported on modified crosslinked polystyrene were synthesized and characterized. Crosslinked polystyrene was reacted with trioxane and chlorotrimethylsilane in the presence of SnCl$_{4}$ to form Merrifield resin. The Merrifield resin was then converted to polymer-bound $\beta $-aminoalcohol and subsequently to $\beta$-aminophosphinite ligand. This polymeric ligand was reacted with PdCl$_{2}$ to obtain a polymeric Pd(0) complex. The TEM image of the Pd catalyst showed good dispersion of catalytic sites. The Pd catalyst exhibits excellent activity and stability in copper-free Sonogashira-Hagihara cross-coupling reactions under aerobic conditions. This protocol can be applied efficiently to the coupling reactions of chloro- as well as …

Thermogravimetric Analysis-Based Screening Of Metal (Ii) Chlorides As Dopants For The Destabilization Of Solid-State Hydrazine Borane, Weiguang Chen, Umit Bilge Demirci
Turkish Journal of Chemistry
Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) is a powerful technique for screening boranes envisaged for chemical hydrogen storage. The demonstration is based on the use of six metal (II) chlorides (MCl$_{2})$ (with M as 3d-metal or d$^{8}$-metal) as destabilizing agents of solid-state hydrazine borane (N$_{2}$H$_{4}$BH$_{3})$. On the basis of TGA profiles combined with derivative thermogravimetric (DTG) curves, it is shown that: e.g. (1) CuCl$_{2}$ is an inefficient dopant whereas it is efficient towards ammonia borane (NH$_{3}$BH$_{3})$; (2) one of the best destabilization results is achieved with N$_{2}$H$_{4}$BH$_{3}$ doped by 10 wt{\%} CuCl$_{2}$-NiCl$_{2}$, the sample decomposing from 30 $^{\circ}$C with greatly mitigated amounts of …

Turkish Journal of Chemistry
We have developed a simple synthetic methodology for bis-spirocycles and spiroindole derivatives starting with a commercially available 6-bromo-2-tetralone. Here, we have used Fischer indolization, ring-closing metathesis, and Suzuki--Miyaura cross-coupling as key steps to assemble a variety of spirocyclic frameworks. The methodology developed here is simple and it may be useful to prepare various spirocycles containing indole moiety.

It is also found that the emission of this novel compound can be switched on and off upon irradiation.

NADPH-cytochrome P450 reductase was purified from Lake Van fish liver microsomes by primary and secondary DEAE-cellulose column chromatograph with 20.46 \mu M/min/mg enzyme specific activities, 54.4% purification yield, and purification of 38-fold. The purity of the enzyme was established, and its monomer molecular weight was determined by SDS-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. SDS-PAGE results showed a single band and the molecular weight of NADPH-cytochrome P450 reductase was 70 kDa. In addition, optimum ionic strength, optimum pH, optimum temperature, and stable pH values were determined for the enzyme in the kinetic studies performed. K_M and V_{max} were determined for NADPH and cytochrome c. …

This study aimed to develop a photocatalyst that responds to visible light. For the preparation of visible light sensitive photocatalysts, N was doped into TiO_2 (N-TiO_2). To inhibit the recombination of excited electrons and holes, transition metals (M = Pt, Cu, Fe, Cr) were loaded on the N-TiO_2. N-TiO_2 nanotubes were also synthesized by a hydrothermal treatment of the prepared N-TiO_2 in a strong basic environment. The prepared photocatalysts were characterized by XRD, FESEM, HRTEM, XPS, and UV/VIS spectrophotometer, and their photocatalytic activity was tested by the photodecomposition of liquid-phase methylene blue and gas-phase acetone.

Two fluorescent tetra- and mono-dansylated resorcinarene cavitands were prepared and fully characterized. The X-ray structure of mono-dansylated resorcinarene cavitand was obtained. Their intrinsic absorption and fluorescence properties were studied. These properties were strongly sensitive to the presence of perchloric acid, as evidenced by the appearance of isobestic points upon protonation of the dansyl dimethylamino functions. The decreasing of the fluorescence emission intensity upon titration with perchloric acid was explained by the excited state interactions between the dansyl groups of the resorcinarene. Fluorescence quantum yields (\Phi _F) of mono- and tetra-dansylated cavitands and the reference compound were determined using dansyl chloride …

Turkish Journal of Chemistry
A facile one-pot synthesis of novel oxindole derivatives bearing benzothiazolylmethyl-2-thioxothiazolidin-4-one was accomplished via one-pot reaction of 5-oxoindolinylidene rhodanine-3-acetic acid derivatives, 2-aminothiophenol, and triphenyl phosphite in the presence of tetrabutylammonium bromide (TBAB) and nano silica-bonded 5-n-propyl-octahydro-pyrimido[1,2-a]azepinium chloride (NSB-DBU) as heterogeneous reusable nanocatalyst. The target compounds were obtained in excellent yields (85%--92%) and short reaction times under fairly mild reaction conditions.
