The Reaction Of Ethylenediamine With Cobalt (Ii) Perchlorate And Oxygen In Dilute Aqueous Solutions, Robert J. Karmy Aug 1968

The Reaction Of Ethylenediamine With Cobalt (Ii) Perchlorate And Oxygen In Dilute Aqueous Solutions, Robert J. Karmy

All Master's Theses

Cobalt (II) perchlorate was reacted with ethylenediamine and molecular oxygen. Various mole ratios of ethylenediamine to cobalt (II) were oxygenated and studied by photometric, potentiometric, conductometric, magnetic susceptibility, freezing point depression, electron spin resonance and cobalt (II) extraction methods. The fact that the complex was brown in color, diamagnetic, contained ethylenediamine to cobalt to oxygen in a mole ratio of 4:2:1 was confirmed. The complex underwent elation to form a polymeric species with excess base. The complex could not be oxidized to a green paramagnetic complex by reacting it with sodium peroxydisulfate, potassium bromate, bromine or chlorine. Ammonia was added …

Phalaris Staggers : Prevention By Cobalt Bullets, Bryan J. Gorddard, P. P. Mann, A. J. Hadlow Jan 1967

Phalaris Staggers : Prevention By Cobalt Bullets, Bryan J. Gorddard, P. P. Mann, A. J. Hadlow

Journal of the Department of Agriculture, Western Australia, Series 4

FARMERS in the south west of Western Australia are familiar with the use of cobalt for the prevention of ill-thrift and deaths due to cobalt deficiency in sheep and cattle.

Less common is the use of cobalt for the prevention of chronic phalaris poisoning, known as phalaris staggers.

This condition is well known in eastern Australia, but only isolated cases have been recorded in W.A. no doubt due to the relatively small area sown to phalaris in this state.

Synthesis And Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Studies Of Some Boron And Nitrogen Substituted Borazines, Michael G. Henk Apr 1966

Synthesis And Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Studies Of Some Boron And Nitrogen Substituted Borazines, Michael G. Henk

Master's Theses (1922-2009) Access restricted to Marquette Campus

From the time Stock and Pohland (44) first prepared borazine in 1926 until Schaeffer and Anderson (33) found a convenient method of preparing borazine in 1949, comparatively little work was done with this compound. Since 1949 work with borazine has progressed geometrically. Today there are a large number of borazines known (15, 36). However, fluorine substituted borazines were unknown until 1962 (29) and to this day very little work has been done with fluorine substituted borazines (2, 27, 30). Also, only a few unsymmetrical borazines have been prepared (38, 40, 41, 42). It would be desirable to have a convenient …

Egg Shell Quality, R J. Bishop Jan 1966

Egg Shell Quality, R J. Bishop

Journal of the Department of Agriculture, Western Australia, Series 4

Recent overseas work and local industry developments indicate that the calcium content of feed for laying hens in Western Australia should be increased to achieve satisfactory egg shell strength.

Age, temperature and breeding are other important influences on egg shell quality.

Water Chemistry Survey Of Boulder Basin, Lake Mead, P. R. Tramutt, Bureau Of Reclamation Jun 1965

Water Chemistry Survey Of Boulder Basin, Lake Mead, P. R. Tramutt, Bureau Of Reclamation

Publications (WR)

The survey results indicate that the impoundment of water behind Hoover Dam has not adversely affected the dissolved oxygen (DO) content and that water quality and DO content were uniform regardless of depth. The study made in April-May 1964 will provide water quality data of Lake Mead prior to releases from Lake Powell as a basis for evaluating Lake Powell's effect on water quality and limnology of Lake Mead. The performance of a DO analyzer was tested and found unsatisfactory at depths below 150 ft. Parameters tested by standard chemical analyses of water samples in the Denver Laboratory and by …

Some Results With Nitrogen Fertiliser On Cereals At Esperance Plain Research Station, William John Toms Jan 1960

Some Results With Nitrogen Fertiliser On Cereals At Esperance Plain Research Station, William John Toms

Journal of the Department of Agriculture, Western Australia, Series 4

ON newly-cleared land at Esperance Plain Research Station the use of sulphate of ammonia on cereals has proved profitable over a number of seasons.

The response to sulphate of ammonia varies markedly with the season.

The Application Of Qualitative Inorganic Macro Procedures And Reagents To Spot Test Analysis, John Albert Stich Aug 1950

The Application Of Qualitative Inorganic Macro Procedures And Reagents To Spot Test Analysis, John Albert Stich

Bachelors’ Theses

Qualitative inorganic analysis is that branch of applied chemistry which has to do with the systematic detection or identification, and separation of the various metals and groups of elements which make up inorganic compounds. The indentification is made on the basis of precipitates and the color changes thereof, which result when a specific reagent is added to a solution of the sample. As opposed to quantitative analysis, measurability is not the essential factor, but it must be possible to observe the reaction easily and indubitably. It is not necessary for the material being tested for to be converted completely to …

A Study Of The Products Of The Reaction Between Stannous And Arsenate Ions In Silicic Acid Gels, Frank K. Thompson Jan 1936

A Study Of The Products Of The Reaction Between Stannous And Arsenate Ions In Silicic Acid Gels, Frank K. Thompson

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

The fact that characteristic crystalline products result upon the diffusion of arsenate ions into silicic acid gel which has been impregnated with stannous ions has been known by the Pacific Chemistry Department for some time. The optimum conditions with regards to heat and hydrogen ion concentration have been determined. The purpose of this investigation was to study the products of the reaction. First to determine whether or not the silicic acid itself combined with the stannous and arsenate. ions in the formation of the crystalline product, and second to determine its chemical composition.
