Type Ii Diabetes Treatment Comparison Via Compartment Modeling, Abigail M. Collins Jan 2026

Type Ii Diabetes Treatment Comparison Via Compartment Modeling, Abigail M. Collins

Theses and Dissertations

Type II diabetes mellitus affects one in ten adults worldwide, yet the effects of treatment type and adherence level on developing complications and quality of life have not been well characterized at the population level, and mathematical modeling offers a structured way to examine these dynamics. This thesis adapts the Boutayeb et al. (2004) model to incorporate dynamic treatment types and levels of adherence, producing nine scenarios in which complication development rate and complication recovery rate differed, to compare peak complications and quality of life across treatment and adherence conditions. Using a system of ordinary differential equations and compartment modeling, …

(R2134) Continuous Shooting Approach With Improved Shooting Slope For Solving Higher Integer Order Boundary Value Problem, Razaq Adekola Oderinu, Adebowale Niyi Aderibigbe, Saheed Alao, Ahmed Adeyi Yahaya

Applications and Applied Mathematics: An International Journal (AAM)

This study presents a semi-analytical shooting method for solving nonlinear higher-order boundary value problems by integrating the Adomian Decomposition Method into the shooting technique, enabling series-form solutions. To enhance convergence, new higher-order shooting slopes and their corresponding supplementary equation formulas were introduced. Three numerical examples demonstrated the method’s accuracy: for the first two, absolute errors were computed using available exact solutions, while the third was compared with reference literature due to the absence of an exact solution. The method achieved very small absolute errors in the first two cases, and results from the third closely matched the literature. Tolerance values—defined …

Numerical Solution Of Ordinary Differential Equations Using Continuous Runge-Kutta Methods (Feldberg Of Order Four And Five), Madeha Yousif

Emirates Journal for Engineering Research

In this paper the continuous Runge-Kutta method (Runge-Kutta Feldberg method of order four and five) have been used to find the numerical solution of ordinary differential equation not only at the mesh points but also the all points between them. the results are computed using matlab program..

Exploration And Implementation Of Neural Ordinary Differential Equations, Long Huu Nguyen, Andy Malinsky Jan 2020

Exploration And Implementation Of Neural Ordinary Differential Equations, Long Huu Nguyen, Andy Malinsky

Capstone Showcase

Neural ordinary differential equations (ODEs) have recently emerged as a novel ap- proach to deep learning, leveraging the knowledge of two previously separate domains, neural networks and differential equations. In this paper, we first examine the back- ground and lay the foundation for traditional artificial neural networks. We then present neural ODEs from a rigorous mathematical perspective, and explore their advantages and trade-offs compared to traditional neural nets.

Solving Ordinary Differential Equations Using Differential Forms And Lie Groups, Richard M. Shumate Apr 2015

Solving Ordinary Differential Equations Using Differential Forms And Lie Groups, Richard M. Shumate

Senior Honors Theses

Differential equations have bearing on practically every scientific field. Though they are prevalent in nature, they can be challenging to solve. Most of the work done in differential equations is dependent on the use of many methods to solve particular types of equations. Sophus Lie proposed a modern method of solving ordinary differential equations in the 19th century along with a coordinate free variation of finding the infinitesimal generator by combining the influential work of Élie Cartan among others in the field of differential geometry. The driving idea behind using symmetries to solve differential equations is that there exists a …

Approximations Of Sturm-Liouville Eigenvalues Using Sinc-Galerkin And Differential Transform Methods, Marwan Taiseer Alquran, Kamel Al-Khaled Jun 2010

Approximations Of Sturm-Liouville Eigenvalues Using Sinc-Galerkin And Differential Transform Methods, Marwan Taiseer Alquran, Kamel Al-Khaled

Applications and Applied Mathematics: An International Journal (AAM)

In this paper, we present a comparative study of Sinc-Galerkin method and differential transform method to solve Sturm-Liouville eigenvalue problem. As an application, a comparison between the two methods for various celebrated Sturm-Liouville problems are analyzed for their eigenvalues and solutions. The study outlines the significant features of the two methods. The results show that these methods are very efficient, and can be applied to a large class of problems. The comparison of the methods shows that although the numerical results of these methods are the same, differential transform method is much easier, and more efficient than the Sinc-Galerkin method.
