Large Language Models (LLMs) have significantly advanced conversational AI by enabling dialogic information-seeking and task execution across diverse domains. However, their extensive parameters and broad domain scope lead to “data hallucinations.” These shortcomings are particularly evident in dynamic and diverse environments like India’s healthcare sector, where myriad languages, regional practices, and cultural nuances demand specialized, localized expertise rather than one-size-fits-all generalist models. This paper introduces a meta-clustering framework that integrates Distilled Language Models (DLMs) and Small/Specialized Language Models (SLMs) with meta-learning principles to address these limitations. By drawing on evidence from works such as MedHalu and Med-HALT, the framework seeks …
A Dynamical Systems Approach For Modeling Malware Propagating Through A Network And Potential Solutions Towards Mitigating Spread, James Johnson
A Dynamical Systems Approach For Modeling Malware Propagating Through A Network And Potential Solutions Towards Mitigating Spread, James Johnson
Cybersecurity Undergraduate Research Showcase
Many people draw close parallels between malware propagating through a network and an epidemic spreading through a population. Epidemics are often modeled by a Susceptible-Infected-Recovered (SIR) model, in which a similar system of equations can model the spread of a virus through a computer network, and can be simplified when making assumptions about the network itself and its fixed number of nodes and edges. In this instance, malware propagating in a network also should reflect the network it is propagating through, in which the dynamical system will factor in the nodes of the network and their properties. The system itself …

Dynamic modelling of decision maker choice behavior of best and worst in discrete choice experiments (DCEs) has numerous applications. Such models are proposed under utility function of decision maker and are used in many areas including social sciences, health economics, transportation research, and health systems research. After reviewing references on the study of such experiments, we present example in DCE with emphasis on time dependent best-worst choice and discrimination between choice attributes. Numerical examples of the dynamic DCEs are simulated, and the associated expected utilities over time of the choice models are derived using Markov decision processes. The estimates are …
Heuristic And Exact Algorithms For The Two-Machine Just In Time Job Shop Scheduling Problem, Mohammed Al Salem, Leonardo Bedoya-Valencia, Ghaith Rabadi
Heuristic And Exact Algorithms For The Two-Machine Just In Time Job Shop Scheduling Problem, Mohammed Al Salem, Leonardo Bedoya-Valencia, Ghaith Rabadi
Engineering Management & Systems Engineering Faculty Publications
The problem addressed in this paper is the two-machine job shop scheduling problem when the objective is to minimize the total earliness and tardiness from a common due date (CDD) for a set of jobs when their weights equal 1 (unweighted problem). This objective became very significant after the introduction of the Just in Time manufacturing approach. A procedure to determine whether the CDD is restricted or unrestricted is developed and a semirestricted CDD is defined. Algorithms are introduced to find the optimal solution when the CDD is unrestricted and semirestricted. When the CDD is restricted, which is a much …

Estimating Cost Adjustments Required To Accomplish Target Savings In Chronic Disease Management Interventions: A Simulation Study, Rafael Diaz, Joshua G. Behr, Bruce S. Britton
VMASC Publications
Chronic diseases are persistent ailments that are not preventable or curable with medication or vaccination. Many of the leading chronic conditions in industrialized societies may be related to lifestyle choices. The prevalence of these chronic conditions significantly affects the health, suffering, and longevity of patients. This paper demonstrates the utility of system dynamics as an approach to model and simulate the behavior of key cost factors in the implementation of population health management interventions. The study uses modeling and simulation as an evaluative method to identify potential savings stemming from an intervention within a well-defined population group. The model is …
Stability Analysis And Application Of A Mathematical Cholera Model, Shu Liao, Jim Wang
Stability Analysis And Application Of A Mathematical Cholera Model, Shu Liao, Jim Wang
Mathematics & Statistics Faculty Publications
In this paper, we conduct a dynamical analysis of the deterministic cholera model proposed in [9]. We study the stability of both the disease-free and endemic equilibria so as to explore the complex epidemic and endemic dynamics of the disease. We demonstrate a real-world application of this model by investigating the recent cholera outbreak in Zimbabwe. Meanwhile, we present numerical simulation results to verify the analytical predictions.

A System Equivalence Related To Dulac's Extension Of Bendixson's Negative Theorem For Planar Dynamical Systems, Charlie H. Cooke
Mathematics & Statistics Faculty Publications
Bendixson's Theorem [H. Ricardo, A Modem Introduction to Differential Equations, Houghton-Mifflin, New York, Boston, 2003] is useful in proving the non-existence of periodic orbits for planar systems
dx/dt = F(x, y), dy/dt = G (x, y)
in a simply connected domain D, where F, G are continuously differentiable. From the work of Dulac [M. Kot, Elements of Mathematical Ecology, 2nd printing, University Press, Cambridge, 2003] one suspects that system (1) has periodic solutions if and only if the more general system
dx/d tau = B(x, y)F(x, y), dy/d tau = B(x, y)G(x, y)
does, which makes the subcase (1) more …
Of Parts And Wholes: Self-Similarity And Synecdoche In Science, Culture And Literature, Dirk Vanderbeke
Of Parts And Wholes: Self-Similarity And Synecdoche In Science, Culture And Literature, Dirk Vanderbeke
Reconstruction: Studies in Contemporary Culture
[Editors' Introduction]
The discussion here centers on how self-similarity, or parts resembling a whole, has been a recurring aspect in the most diverse fields of human thinking from antiquity to the present. Primary examples are drawn from physics, biology, cybernetics, alchemy, philosophy, myth and, of course, language and literature. The author argues that self-similar patterns are one of the persistent ways in which the human mind structures its experience and knowledge of the world, and then examines some of the questions that arise when an almost ubiquitous concept, structure or linguistic and literary phenomenon resurfaces in a new guise in …
Is Chaos Theory Postmodern Science?, J. Linn Mackey
Is Chaos Theory Postmodern Science?, J. Linn Mackey
Reconstruction: Studies in Contemporary Culture
[Editors' Introduction]
Based on a comparison between the theories of N. Katherine Hayles (Chaos Bound: Orderly Disorder in Contemporary Literature and Science) and Vladimir Tasic (Mathematics and the Roots of Postmodern Thought), J. Linn Mackey asks the question Is Chaos Theory Postmodern Science and looks at parallels between the literature dubbed as postmodern and the scientific branch more properly termed complex dynamics. His conclusions are surprising: both Hayles and Tasic miss important connective elements of both the science and the practice of postmodernism. Postmodern science does, in fact, exist, and literature just may be it.
Dynamics And Control Of A Three Dimensional Gantry Crane With Cable Flexibility, Uchendu H. Eke
Dynamics And Control Of A Three Dimensional Gantry Crane With Cable Flexibility, Uchendu H. Eke
Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering Theses & Dissertations
The control of payload swing in industrial gantry cranes is a topic of widespread interest. In this thesis, the control of the swing of a payload idealized by a point mass assumption is investigated utilizing s, compact robotics matrix/vector representation of the dynamical model. In this form, this particular system can be viewed as sn underactuated manipulator with equal numbers of active and passive degrees of freedom. The full three dimensional model is developed and linearized by modelling the cable as a single thread of fiexible wire and the degree of dynamic coupling between the active and passive coordinates is …
A Mathematical Model Of The Dynamics Of An Optically Pumped Four-Level Solid State Laser System, Lila Freeman Roberts
A Mathematical Model Of The Dynamics Of An Optically Pumped Four-Level Solid State Laser System, Lila Freeman Roberts
Mathematics & Statistics Theses & Dissertations
This is a study of a mathematical model of the dynamics of an optically pumped four-level solid state laser system. A general mathematical model that describes the spatial and temporal evolution of the electron populations in the laser rod as well as the development of the left and right traveling photon fluxes in the cavity is developed. The model consists of a coupled set of first order semilinear partial differential equations. While the model was developed for Titanium-doped sapphire lasers, it is applicable to three and four level lasers in general.
The analysis of the model is conducted in two …
