A written contract to pay a certain amount of money on a specified redemption date, and to pay equal periodical dividends, is called a bond from a mathematical standpoint. The principal mentioned in the contract is its face value, or par value. The amount redeemed, or the redemption value, is denoted by C, the dividends by D, and the principal by F.
