The theory of Schwartz Distributions opened up a new area of mathematical research, which in turn has provided an impetus in the development of a number of mathematical disciplines, such as ordinary and partial differential equations, operational calculus, transformation theory and functional analysis. The integral transforms and generalized functions have also shown equivalent association of Boehmians and the integral transforms. The theory of Boehmians, which is a generalization of Schwartz distributions are discussed in this paper. Problems involving the minimization of functionals date back to antiquity. The mathematics of the calculus of variations has provided a framework for the analytical solution of a limited class of such problems. This paper describes a numerical approximation technique for obtaining machine solutions to minimal path problems. It is shown that this technique is applicable not only to the common case of finding geodesics on parameterized surfaces in R3, but also to the general case of finding minimal functionals on hypersurfaces in Rn associated with an arbitrary metric.

Since the pioneering work of von Neumann and Morgenstern in 1944 there have been many developments in Expected Utility theory. In order to explain decision making behavior economists have created increasingly broad and complex models of utility theory. This paper seeks to describe various utility models, how they model choices among ambiguous and lottery type situations, and how they respond to the Ellsberg and Allais paradoxes. This paper also attempts to communicate the historical development of utility models and provide a fresh perspective on the development of utility models.

In this paper, we apply a new method for solving system of partial differential equations within local fractional derivative operators. The approximate analytical solutions are obtained by using the local fractional Laplace variational iteration method, which is the coupling method of local fractional variational iteration method and Laplace transform. Illustrative examples are included to demonstrate the high accuracy and fast convergence of this new algorithm. The obtained results show that the introduced approach is a promising tool for solving system of linear and nonlinear local fractional differential equations. In this paper, we study the extended Mittag -Leffler function by using generalized beta function and obtain various differential properties, integral representations. Further, we discuss Mellin transform of these functions in terms of generalized Wright hyper geometric function and evaluate Laplace transform, and Whittaker transform in terms of extended beta function. Finally, several interesting special cases of extended Mittag -Leffler functions have also be given.

In this dissertation we study the quantitative theory in homogenization of Stokes systems. We study uniform regularity estimates for a family of Stokes systems with rapidly oscillating periodic coefficients. We establish interior Lipschitz estimates for the velocity and L∞ estimates for the pressure as well as Liouville property for solutions in ℝd. We are able to obtain the boundary W{1,p} estimates in a bounded C1 domain for any 1 < p < ∞. We also study the convergence rates in L2 and H1 of Dirichlet and Neumann problems for Stokes systems with rapidly oscillating periodic coefficients, without any regularity assumptions on the coefficients.

In this article we consider a non-standard finite difference method for numerical solution of linear Fredholm integro-differential equations. The non-standard finite difference method and the repeated / composite trapezoidal quadrature method are used to transform the Fredholm integro-differential equation into a system of non-linear algebraic equations. The numerical experiments on some linear model problems show the simplicity and efficiency of the proposed method. It is observed from the numerical experiments that our method is convergent and second order accurate.

In this article, we have applied Jacobi polynomial to solve Riccati differential equation of fractional order. To do so, we have presented a general formula for the Jacobi operational matrix of fractional integral operator. Using the Tau method, the solution of this problem reduces to the solution of a system of algebraic equations. The numerical results for the examples presented in this paper demonstrate the efficiency of the present method.

In this article, the local fractional variational iteration method is proposed to solve nonlinear partial differential equations within local fractional derivative operators. To illustrate the ability and reliability of the method, some examples are illustrated. A comparison between local fractional variational iteration method with the other numerical methods is given, revealing that the proposed method is capable of solving effectively a large number of nonlinear differential equations with high accuracy. Both, a global isothermal temperature model and a nonlinear quadratic temperature model of the ISA was developed and presented here. Constrained optimization techniques in conjunction with the least-square-root approximations were used to design best-fit isothermal models for ISA pressure and density changes up to 47 geopotential km for NLPAM, and 86 orthometric km for ISOAM respectively. The mass of the dry atmosphere and the relevant fractional-mass scale heights have been computed utilizing the very accurate eight-point Gauss-Legendre numerical quadrature for both ISOAM and NLPAM. Both, the ISOAM and the NLPAM represent viable alternatives to ISA in many practical applications and …

This thesis explores several models in continuum mechanics from both local and nonlocal perspectives. The first portion settles a conjecture proposed by Filippo Gazzola and his collaborators on the finite-time blow-up for a class of fourth-order differential equations modeling suspension bridges. Under suitable assumptions on the nonlinearity and the initial data, a finite-time blowup is demonstrated as a result of rapid oscillations with geometrically growing amplitudes. The second section introduces a nonlocal peridynamic (integral) generalization of the biharmonic operator. Its action converges to that of the classical biharmonic as the radius of nonlocal interactions---the ``horizon"---tends to zero. For the corresponding …

A time-dependent method is coupled with the Method of Approximate Particular Solutions (MAPS) of Delta-shaped basis functions, the Method of Fundamental Solutions (MFS), and the Method of Approximate Fundamental Solutions (MAFS) to solve a second order nonlinear elliptic partial differential equation (PDE) on regular and irregular shaped domains. The nonlinear PDE boundary value problem is first transformed into a time-dependent quasilinear problem by introducing a fictitious time. We begin with an introduction of sets used in this field, time scales, and build up to the definition of the exponential function on a time scale. The main focus of this work is a study of the solutions of a particular logistic dynamic equation on varying time scales. We study both the analytical and graphical solutions of this equation. In this paper, we prove the existence, uniqueness and continuous dependence of initial data on mild solutions of first order semilinear functional impulsive mixed integro-differential equations with nonlocal condition in general Banach spaces. The results are obtained by using the semigroup theory and Banach contraction theorem.

In this paper, the extended (G'/G)-expansion method is used to seek more general exact solutions of the improved Eckhaus equation and the (2+1)-dimensional improved Eckhaus equation. As a result, hyperbolic function solutions, trigonometric function solutions and rational function solutions with free parameters are obtained. When the parameters are taken as special values the solitary wave solutions are also derived from the traveling wave solutions. Moreover, it is shown that the proposed method is direct, effective and can be used for many other nonlinear evolution equations in mathematical physics.
