Mixture Sutoregressive Models For Thai Stock Market Data, Apicha Suthichayapipat
Mixture Sutoregressive Models For Thai Stock Market Data, Apicha Suthichayapipat
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
The autoregressive (AR) model is one of the most widely used time series forecasting models. The standard AR model was established using the normal distribution, which is violated in some datasets, notably financial data. Therefore, alternative distributions are proposed in the literature, such as the concept of mixture distributions. This concept is also applied to time series modeling in the family of mixture autoregressive models that combine different autoregressive components. Specifically, we consider both the univariate mixture autoregressive model and the multivariate mixture autoregressive model based on the normal and t distributions. In this study, we construct the EM algorithm …

A Framework For Assessing Environmental Incidents In Coastal Areas: A Case Study In The Southeastern Coastal Area Of Vietnam, Cuong Le Tan, Phuoc Nguyen Van, Quan Nguyen Hong, Loan Tran Thi Diem, Minh Tran Thanh
Applied Environmental Research
As developing dynamic regions, coastal areas have a high potential for environmental incidents, especially chemical spills, which may permanently threaten livelihoods and coastal ecosystems. Establishing an appropriate methodological framework for assessing environmental incidents in coastal areas, ensuring increased predictability and minimising potential consequences is a trend of interest to scientists. In this study, the environmental risk assessment model was applied to develop a framework for assessing environmental incidents in coastal areas due to chemical spills from the mainland based on hazard, exposure and vulnerability factors (i.e., sensitivity and adaptability). Using the multiple criteria decision-making (MCDM) method approach, suitable criteria, their …

Applied Environmental Research
Roof gardening is popular for increasing green space in cities due to the restricted urban areas. However, when watering plants on a roof garden, one should consider loading capacity of the roof, which may limit water supply to the plants therein. To improve the efficiency in irrigating trees in a roof garden, we evaluated plant water status, represented by midday leaf water potential (ΨL), and leaf gas exchange parameters including stomatal conductance (gs) and net photosynthesis (An) of a tree (Tabebuia argentea, Ta) and a palm (Ptychosperma macarthurii, Pm) species, which dominate the garden. …

Article Feed Recommendations Using Position-Aware Deep Cross Network, Dhata Muangrux
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
The presence of social media platforms has recently transformed the digital landscape, with an ever-increasing user base. As these platforms become central to daily life, the need for recommendation systems that genuinely cater to individual preferences has never been more paramount. While current recommendation algorithms excel at curating content based on user interests, they often overlook inherent biases, notably the positional bias where users engage with content due to its placement rather than its inherent relevance. This oversight is particularly evident in every social media recommendation system. Addressing this challenge, we proposed a position-aware methodology within the Deep and Cross …

Development Of Spreadsheet-Based Simulation To Reduce Number Of Experimental Trials In Separation With Comprehensive Two-Dimensional Gas Chromatography, Chisanupong Kunmas
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
Method development and optimization in comprehensive two- dimensional gas chromatography (GC´GC) is a process with the requirement to perform a large number of experiments maximizing the number of separated components in each sample. These are the skills which cannot be developed by students in a general lecture class; while, they can be achieved in a laboratory although with consumption of large amount of budget, energy and time. This thesis developed a spreadsheet in Microsoft Excel format to simulate a GC´GC retention time plot and a number of separated peaks for a given sample within a few milliseconds. Application of this …

Subsequently, five …
Stability Of Structure-Aware Taylor Methods For Tents, Jay Gopalakrishnan, Zheng Sun
Stability Of Structure-Aware Taylor Methods For Tents, Jay Gopalakrishnan, Zheng Sun
Mathematics and Statistics Faculty Publications and Presentations
Structure-aware Taylor (SAT) methods are a class of timestepping schemes designed for propagating linear hyperbolic solutions within a tent-shaped spacetime region. Tents are useful to design explicit time marching schemes on unstructured advancing fronts with built-in locally variable timestepping for arbitrary spatial and temporal discretization orders. The main result of this paper is that an s-stage SAT timestepping within a tent is weakly stable under the time step constraint
∆t ≤ Ch1+1/s , where ∆t is the time step size and h is the spatial mesh size. Improved stability properties are also presented for high-order SAT time discretizations coupled …

Chemical Reaction Networks In A Laplacian Framework, J.J.P. Veerman, T. Whalen-Wagner, Ewan Kummel
Mathematics and Statistics Faculty Publications and Presentations
The study of the dynamics of chemical reactions, and in particular phenomena such as oscillating reactions, has led to the recognition that many dynamical properties of a chemical reaction can be predicted from graph theoretical properties of a certain directed graph, called a Chemical Reaction Network (CRN). In this graph, the edges represent the reactions and the vertices the reacting combinations of chemical substances. In contrast with the classical treatment, in this work, we heavily rely on a recently developed theory of directed graph Laplacians to simplify the traditional treatment of the so-called defi- ciency zero systems of CRN theory. …
Non-Linear Modelling Of Internal Geophysical Waves, Joseph Cullen
Non-Linear Modelling Of Internal Geophysical Waves, Joseph Cullen
Doctoral
Geophysical waves are waves that are found naturally in the Earth’s atmosphere and oceans. Internal waves, that act as an interface between fluids of different density are examples of geophysical waves. The system set-up will incorporate a model with a flat bottom, flat surface and internal wave. The system has a depthdependent current which mimics a typical ocean set-up and, as it is based on the surface of the rotating Earth, includes Coriolis forces. Using well established fluid dynamic techniques, the total energy is calculated and used to determine the dynamics of the system using a procedure called the Hamiltonian …

The cluster-based technique is gaining focus for scheduling tasks of mixed-criticality (MC) real-time multicore systems. In this technique, the cores of the MC system are distributed in groups known as clusters. When all cores are distributed in clusters, the tasks are partitioned into clusters, which are scheduled on the cores within each cluster using a global approach. In this study, a cluster-based technique is adopted for scheduling tasks of real-time mixed-criticality systems (MCS). The Decreasing Criticality Decreasing Utilization with the worst-fit (DCDU-WF) technique is used for partitioning of tasks to clusters, whereas a novel mixed-criticality cluster-based boundary fair (MC-Bfair) scheduling …

The paper presents a new protocol called Link Stability and Transmission Delay Aware (LSTDA) for Flying Ad-hoc Network (FANET) with a focus on network corridors (NC). FANET consists of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) that face challenges in avoiding transmission loss and delay while ensuring stable communication. The proposed protocol introduces a novel link stability with network corridors priority node selection to check and ensure fair communication in the entire network. The protocol uses a Red-Black (R-B) tree to achieve maximum channel utilization and an advanced relay approach. The paper evaluates LSTDA in terms of End-to-End Delay (E2ED), Packet Delivery Ratio …

Federated Learning (FL) enables collaborative and privacy-preserving training of machine learning models within the Internet of Vehicles (IoV) realm. While FL effectively tackles privacy concerns, it also imposes significant resource requirements. In traditional FL, trained models are transmitted to a central server for global aggregation, typically in the cloud. This approach often leads to network congestion and bandwidth limitations when numerous devices communicate with the same server. The need for Flexible Global Aggregation and Dynamic Client Selection in FL for the IoV arises from the inherent characteristics of IoV environments. These include diverse and distributed data sources, varying data quality, …

Sepsis is a major global health concern causing high morbidity and mortality rates. Our study utilized a Meningococcal Septic Shock (MSS) temporal dataset to investigate the correlation between gene expression (GE) changes and clinical features. The research used Weighted Gene Co-expression Network Analysis (WGCNA) to establish links between gene expression and clinical parameters in infants admitted to the Pediatric Critical Care Unit with MSS. Additionally, various machine learning (ML) algorithms, including Support Vector Machine (SVM), Naive Bayes, K-Nearest Neighbors (KNN), Decision Tree, Random Forest, and Artificial Neural Network (ANN) were implemented to predict sepsis survival. The findings revealed a transition …

Finding the precise and accurate location of devices on road networks is challenging in remote areas with poor internet connectivity and Global Positioning System coverage. Navigation applications that completely depend on the internet and reference spatial data for location identification and mapping do not perform well in case of frequent internet disconnection. These reference spatial data sources have many associated challenges like large size, errors in data, and restricted access. To address these challenges, this paper provides an approach for localization and routing using self-generated reference data using likelihood estimation. According to the proposed approach, the trajectory information is used …
