The Effect Of Temperature On Fusion Cross-Sections Of The 8b Proton Halo Nucleus, Murat Aygün
The Effect Of Temperature On Fusion Cross-Sections Of The 8b Proton Halo Nucleus, Murat Aygün
Turkish Journal of Physics
In the present study, I investigate the effect of temperature on fusion cross-sections of the 8B proton halo projectile. For this purpose, I evaluate two different fusion reactions, 8B + 28Si and 8B +58Ni, in the available literature. I apply two different nuclear potentials as a function of temperature. I calculate both fusion cross-sections and nuclear potentials for both reactions and I then compare the theoretical results with the experimental data. This comparison provides an opportunity for a test of different temperature-dependent potentials in explaining the fusion cross-sections with the 8B halo nucleus.

Atomic Layer Deposition Of Zirconium Oxide Thin Film On An Optical Fiber Forcladding Light Strippers, Ali̇ Karatutlu
Turkish Journal of Physics
Cladding light strippers are essential components in high-power fiber lasers used for removal of unwanted cladding light that can distort the beam quality or even damage the whole fiber laser system. In this study, an Atomic Layer Deposition system was used for the first time to prepare the cladding light stripper devices using a 40 nm thick zirconia layer grown on optical fiber. The thickness of the zirconia coating was confirmed using the Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and the Ellipsometry techniques. The elemental analysis was also performed using the wavelength dispersive X-ray spectroscopy technique. The Raman spectroscopy and XRD data …

Turkish Journal of Physics
In the present work, ZnO films were obtained on mesoporous silicon substrates by the method of HF magnetron sputtering of a metallic zinc target in reaction oxygen and argon gas medium. The properties of the ZnO films obtained on mesoporous substrates were studied depending on the ratio of the partial pressures of the working gases (argon/oxygen). X-ray analysis showed that in the process of deposition, the ZnO films of a hexagonal structure were formed. The effect of the porous layer on the structural and luminescent properties of the thin ZnO films was studied. The results showed that the porous silicon …

Anisotropic Magnetoresistance And Planar Hall Effect In Magnetoresistivenife/Pt Thin Film, Erdem Demi̇rci̇
Turkish Journal of Physics
The magnetoresistive NiFe/Pt sensor was fabricated by using standard microlithography and sputter deposition techniques and then the magnetic and magnetotransport properties were investigated. The magnetic properties of the sample show that the easy axis of magnetization prefers a predefined direction along the Hall bar. Moreover, the sample has uniaxial magnetic anisotropy due to the growth-induced magnetic anisotropy. On the other hand, the Anisotropic magnetoresistance (AMR) and the Planar Hall effect (PHE) of the sample were investigated in detail between 0° and 360°. The angle-dependent AMR and PHE signals at the in-plane magnetic field of constant magnitude intersect at certain angles. …

Frequency And Voltage Dependence Of Electrical Conductivity, Complex Electricmodulus, And Dielectric Properties Of Al/Alq3 /P-Si Structure, İkram Orak, Abdulkeri̇m Karabulut
Turkish Journal of Physics
In order to enhance the capacitance of the Al/p-Si metal-semiconductor structure, the Alq3 thin film was coated between these two layers using the spin coating technique as the interlayer. The electrical conductivity, real and imaginary parts of electric modulus, dielectric loss and dielectric constant parameters were examined at the room temperature by the help of admittance measurements in the 100 kHz to 1 MHz frequency range. The effect of frequency on the dielectric constant and dielectric loss values is negligible at the negative voltage values, up to about 0.8 V, and these values rapidly ascended after 0.8 V. The function …

Four-Quark Exotic Mesons, Shahin Agaev, Kazem Azizi, Hayri̇ye Sundu Pamuk
Turkish Journal of Physics
We review our investigations devoted to the analysis of the resonances Zc(3900), Zc(4430), Zc(4100), X(4140), X(4274), α1(1420), Y(4660), X(2100), X(2239), and Y(2175) discovered in various processes by Belle, BaBar, BESIII, D0, CDF, CMS, LHCb and COMPASS collaborations. These resonances are considered as serious candidates to four-quark (tetraquark) exotic mesons. We treat all of them as diquark-antidiquark states with relevant spin-parities, find their masses and couplings, as well as explore their dominant strong decay channels. Calculations are performed in the context of the QCD sum rule method. Thus, the spectroscopic parameters of the tetraquarks are evaluated using the two-point sum rules. …

Size-Dependent Electron Chemical Potential In Nanostructures Derived Fromstatistical Configuration, Desyana Olenka Margaretta, Nadya Amalia, Fisca Dian Utami, Riri Murniati, Sparisoma Viridi, Mikrajuddin Abdullah
Turkish Journal of Physics
We rederived the fermion distribution function by considering the effect of assembly size. We did not use Stirling approximation to avoid the deviation generated by this approximation for a small number of constituents and small assembly size. Furthermore, we identified that in small systems, the chemical potential should also depend on the assembly size. We also rederived a general expression for the size-dependent chemical potential from a statistical configuration and showed that it is consistent with the results from previously reported theoretical or simulation methods. Finally, we applied the model to derive a size-dependent thermoelectric power factor of nanostructured materials. …
Prediction Of Standard Enthalpies Of Formation Of Boron Nitride Nanocones, Fahimeh Shojaie
Prediction Of Standard Enthalpies Of Formation Of Boron Nitride Nanocones, Fahimeh Shojaie
Turkish Journal of Physics
Prediction of the standard enthalpy of formation (ΔfH0298) of boron nitride nanocone (BNNCs) structures with disclination angles 60°, 120°, and 180°is recommended to be performed by the isodesmic reaction approach. NH3, BH3, and N2H4 were selected as key reference compounds. In order to calculate ΔfH0298 of nanocones, we must first calculate the enthalpies of nanocone rings at their apexes. For this purpose, ΔfH0298 values of 40 different structures, such as boron, nitrogen, and hydrogen compounds, have been calculated by combining Gaussian-4 (G4) theory calculations with the isodesmic and other balanced reactions approach. At each stage of the calculations, the previously …

Electrophysical Properties Of Pb 1-Xmnx Se Epitaxial Films Irradiatedby Γ-Quanta, Rahim Madatov, Rakshana Mamishova, Muslim Mamedov, Javanshir Ismayilov, Ulviya Faradjova
Turkish Journal of Physics
Herein, the effect of γ-quanta on electrophysical and photoelectric properties of p-type Pb1-xMnx Se epitaxial films obtained from the molecular cluster on the glass substrate by the method of condensation has been investigated. It has been established that the acceptor-type local levels with the ionization energy of 0.14 eV and 0.175 eV are generated, when p-type Pb1-xMnx Se (x = 0.01) epitaxial films are irradiated by γ-quanta at D >10 kGy doses. The increase in the photoconductivity in the low temperature range 80-180K is due to the discharge of 0.14eV level, but the decrease in the rate of change of …

On-Chip Quantum Optics And Integrated Optomechanics, David Hoch, Timo Sommer, Sebastian Mueller, Menno Poot
Turkish Journal of Physics
Recent developments in quantum computing and the growing interest in optomechanics and quantum optics need platforms that enable rapid prototyping and scalability. This can be fulfilled by on-chip integration, as we present here. The different nanofabrication steps are explained, and our automated measurement setup is discussed. We present an opto-electromechanical device, the H-resonator, which enables optomechanical experiments such as electrostatic springs and nonlinearities and thermomechanical squeezing. Moreover, it also functions as an optomechanical phase shifter, an essential element for our integrated quantum optics efforts. Besides this, the equivalent of a beam splitter in photonics-the directional coupler-is shown. Its coupling ratio …
Local Vibrational Modes Of Natural Isotopes Of Substitutional Oxygen In Cdte, Enver Tarhan, Anant K. Ramdas
Local Vibrational Modes Of Natural Isotopes Of Substitutional Oxygen In Cdte, Enver Tarhan, Anant K. Ramdas
Turkish Journal of Physics
We investigated the localized vibrational modes (LVM) of natural oxygen containing $^{16}$O, $^{17}$O, and $^{18}$O isotopes at a substitutional tellurium site in cadmium telluride using infrared absorption spectroscopy at cryogenic temperatures. The main absorption peak observed at 350 cm$^{-1\, }$was formerly attributed to a fundamental LVM mode ($\nu _{0})$ of oxygen at a tellurium site. The relatively weak absorption peaks observed at 331 cm$^{-1\, }$and 340 cm$^{-1\, }$are assigned as the same $\nu_{0}$ mode of the $^{17}$O and $^{18}$O isotopes, respectively, based on their relative intensities and spectral positions. The spectral positions were confirmed with theoretical calculations using a linear …

Turkish Journal of Physics
The present work mainly purposed to investigate significant nuclear structure properties nuclei used in single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT), in addition to ground state nuclear properties such as the binding energy per particle, the root mean square (rms) charge, and proton and neutron radii. Besides, we calculated the neutron skin thicknesses (NST), the proton, neutron quadrupole moments ($Q_{P}, Q_{N})$, quadrupole deformation parameter ($\beta_{2})$, and the proton and neutron pairing energies ($P_{P}, P_{N})$ to determine shapes and deformations of SPECT nuclei including odd-odd or odd-even/even-odd nuclei in axial symmetry for Skyrme and Gogny interactions. To analyze the accuracy of the …

A Nonminimally Coupled, Conformally Extended Einstein-Maxwell Theory Of Pp-Waves, Dündar Teki̇n Dereli̇, Yorgo Şeni̇koğlu
Turkish Journal of Physics
A nonminimal coupling of Weyl curvatures to electromagnetic fields is considered in Brans-Dicke-Maxwell theory. The gravitational field equations are formulated in a Riemannian spacetime where the spacetime torsion is constrained to zero by the method of Lagrange multipliers in the language of exterior differential forms. The significance and ramifications of nonminimal couplings to gravity are examined in a pp-wave spacetime.

Pseudoscalar Form Factors Of The $\Delta(1232)$ In Baryon Chiral Perturbation Theory, Yasemi̇n Ünal
Turkish Journal of Physics
The pseudoscalar current-delta transition form factors are calculated in the framework of relativistic baryon chiral perturbation theory including order $\mathcal{O}(q^4)$. The complex-mass scheme, which is suitable and well-defined for unstable particles, is taken into account as a renormalization scheme. We discuss the low energy behavior of the pseudoscalar $\tilde{g}(Q^2)$ and $\tilde{h}(Q^2)$ form factors and note that the momentum dependence of the form factors is dominated by the pion pole contributions.

The field of nanotechnology has been gaining great success due to its potential in developing new generations of nanoscale materials with unprecedented properties and enhanced biological responses. This is particularly exciting using nanofibers, as their mechanical and topographic characteristics can approach those found in naturally occurring biological materials. Electrospinning is a key technique to manufacture ultrafine fibers and fiber meshes with multifunctional features, such as piezoelectricity, to be available on a smaller length scale, thus comparable to subcellular scale, which makes their use increasingly appealing for biomedical applications. These include biocompatible fiber-based devices as smart scaffolds, biosensors, energy harvesters, and …

Lysyl-Trna Synthetase From Pseudomonas Aeruginosa: Characterization And Identification Of Inhibitory Compounds, Samantha Balboa, Yanmei Hu, Frank B. Dean, James M. Bullard
School of Integrative Biological & Chemical Sciences (Formerly Dept. of Chemistry)
Pseudomonas aeruginosa is an opportunistic pathogen that causes nosocomial infections and has highly developed systems for acquiring resistance against numerous antibiotics. The gene (lysS) encoding P. aeruginosa lysyl-tRNA synthetase (LysRS) was cloned and overexpressed, and the resulting protein was purified to 98% homogeneity. LysRS was kinetically evaluated, and the Km values for the interaction with lysine, adenosine triphosphate (ATP), and tRNALys were determined to be 45.5, 627, and 3.3 µM, respectively. The kcatobs values were calculated to be 13, 22.8, and 0.35 s−1, resulting in kcatobs/KM values of 0.29, 0.036, and 0.11 s−1µM−1, …

Nonreciprocal Cavities And The Time-Bandwidth Limit: Reply, Sander A. Mann, Dimitrios L. Sounas, Andrea Alù
Advanced Science Research Center
We reply to the comment on our recent article [Optica 6, 104 (2019)], in which we demonstrated that nonreciprocal cavities comply with the resonance time-bandwidth limit. We fully stand by our original claims and further elucidate how breaking of reciprocity is not required to achieve the large field enhancements and time-bandwidth products observed in the comment and our article. We also further clarify that these hotspots do not overcome the conventional time-bandwidth limit.

Interactive Ecosystem For Surgical Training In A Realistic Mixed-Reality, Ehsan Azimi
Link Foundation Modeling, Simulation and Training Fellowship Reports
In many surgical procedures, surgeons rely on their general knowledge of anatomy and relatively crude measurements, which have inevitable uncertainties in locating internal anatomical targets. One example procedure that is frequently performed in neurosurgery is ventriculostomy (also called external ventricular drainage), where the surgeon inserts a catheter into the ventricle to drain cerebrospinal fluid (CSF). In this procedure, often performed bedside and therefore without image guidance, the surgeon makes measurements relative to cranial features to determine where to drill into the skull and then attempts to insert a catheter as perpendicular to the skull as possible. Although it is one …

Climate data are part of our cultural heritage. Enlightenment scientists initiated regular meteorological measurements in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, providing modern scientists a wealth of early weather and climate information from across the world. Very long temperature and rainfall series are widely used as a baseline for current changes and to study past climatic variations at regional scale. But records like these constitute only a subset of all measurements taken. We provide here a partial inventory of meteorological measurements made prior to around 1850. Numerous efforts by individuals, weather services, international projects, and the Atmospheric Circulation Reconstructions over the …

A Spectroscopic And Photometric Survey Of The W4 Hii Region And Its Young Stellar Population, Matt Wentzel-Long
Doctoral Dissertations
”The W4 HII region is home to a large number of O and B-type stars as well as the young open cluster IC 1805. OB-type produce intense photoionizing radiation and stellar winds that can induce star formation in surrounding molecular clouds and sometimes carve out large regions of decreased particle density called superbubbles. During the star- formation process, young stellar objects (YSOs) are initially surrounded by circumstellar disks made of gas and dust which naturally dissipate after several million years. The dissipation of the disk is thought to occur for a variety of reasons, including photoevaporation by the encompassed protostar …

© 2013 IEEE. Recent studies have demonstrated that most commercial facial analysis systems are biased against certain categories of race, ethnicity, culture, age and gender. The bias can be traced in some cases to the algorithms used and in other cases to insufficient training of algorithms, while in still other cases bias can be traced to insufficient databases. To date, no comprehensive literature review exists which systematically investigates bias and discrimination in the currently available facial analysis software. To address the gap, this study conducts a systematic literature review (SLR) in which the context of facial analysis system bias is …

Indeed, some cloud/edge-based resources might not be available when needed leading to delaying the execution of these processes’ tasks and/or the transfer of these processes’ data. This paper presents an approach for specifying, verifying, and deploying time-constrained business processes in a mono-cloud, multi-edge context. First, the specification and verification of processes happen at design-time and run-time to ensure that these processes’ tasks and data are continuously placed in a way that would mitigate the violation of …

"Sophie Germain (1776–1831) is quite well-known to the mathematical community for her contributions to number theory [17] and elasticity theory (e.g., see [2, 5]). On the other hand, there have been few attempts to understand Sophie Germain as an intellectual of her time, as an independent thinker outside of academia, and as a female mathematician in France, facing the prejudice of the time of the First Empire and of the Bourbon Restoration, while pursuing her thoughts and interests and writing on them. Sophie Germain had to face a double challenge: the mathematical difficulty of the problems she approached and the …

© 2019 The Authors Hypertension is a leading cause of mortality in the USA. While simple tools such as the sphygmomanometer are widely used to diagnose hypertension, they could not predict the disease before its onset. Clinical studies suggest that alterations in the structure of human brains’ cerebrovasculature start to develop years before the onset of hypertension. In this research, we present a novel computer-aided diagnosis (CAD) system for the early detection of hypertension. The proposed CAD system analyzes magnetic resonance angiography (MRA) data of human brains to detect and track the cerebral vascular alterations and this is achieved using …

© 2013 IEEE. Analyzing cerebrovascular changes can significantly lead to not only detecting the presence of serious diseases e.g., hypertension and dementia, but also tracking their progress. Such analysis could be better performed using Time-of-Flight Magnetic Resonance Angiography (ToF-MRA) images, but this requires accurate segmentation of the cerebral vasculature from the surroundings. To achieve this goal, we propose a fully automated cerebral vasculature segmentation approach based on extracting both prior and current appearance features that have the ability to capture the appearance of macro and micro-vessels in ToF-MRA. The appearance prior is modeled with a novel translation and rotation invariant …

UNF Graduate Theses and Dissertations
We study the hypercube and the associated subconstituent algebra. Let Q_D denote the hypercube with dimension D and let X denote the vertex set of Q_D. Fix a vertex x in X. We denote by A the adjacency matrix of Q_D and by A* = A*(x) the diagonal matrix with yy-entry equal to D − 2i, where i is the distance between x and y. The subconstitutent algebra T = T(x) of Q_D with respect to x is generated by A and A* . We show that A 2A* − 2AA*A + A*A 2 = 4A* A*2A − 2A*AA* + …
