An Integrated Data Mining System To Automate Discovery, Cecil Chua, Roger Hsiang-Li Chiang, Ee Peng Lim
An Integrated Data Mining System To Automate Discovery, Cecil Chua, Roger Hsiang-Li Chiang, Ee Peng Lim
Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems
Many data analysts require tools which can integrate their database management packages (e.g. Microsoft Access) with their data analysis ones (e.g. SAS, SPSS), and provide guidance for the selection of appropriate mining algorithms. In addition, the analysts need to extract and validate statistical results to facilitate data mining. In this paper, we describe an integrated data mining system called the Linear Correlation Discovery System (LCDS) that meets the above requirement. LCDS consists of four major sub-components, two of which, the selection assistant and the statistics coupler, are discussed in this paper. The former examines the schema and instances to determine …
Some Remarks On Fair Exchange Protocol, Jianying Zhou, Robert H. Deng, Feng Bao
Some Remarks On Fair Exchange Protocol, Jianying Zhou, Robert H. Deng, Feng Bao
Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems
Fair exchange turns out to be an increasingly important topic due to the rapid growth of electronic commerce. An exchange is deemed to be fair if at the end of exchange, either each party receives the expected item or neither party receives any useful information about the other’s item. Several protocols for fair exchange have been proposed in recent years. In this paper, we first examine a newly published fair exchange protocol and point out its flaws and weaknesses. We then put forward a more efficient and secure protocol and give an informal analysis.
Supervised Adaptive Resonance Theory And Rules, Ah-Hwee Tan
Supervised Adaptive Resonance Theory And Rules, Ah-Hwee Tan
Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems
Supervised Adaptive Resonance Theory is a family of neural networks that performs incremental supervised learning of recognition categories (pattern classes) and multidimensional maps of both binary and analog patterns. This chapter highlights that the supervised ART architecture is compatible with IF-THEN rule-based symbolic representation. Specifically, the knowledge learned by a supervised ART system can be readily translated into rules for interpretation. Similarly, a priori domain knowledge in the form of IF-THEN rules can be converted into a supervised ART architecture. Not only does initializing networks with prior knowledge improve predictive accuracy and learning efficiency, the inserted symbolic knowledge can also …
A Time Resolved Laser Spectroscopy Study Of Resonance Energy Transfer Between Tb(Iii) And An Organic Dye: 6-Hydroxy-5-[(2-Methoxy-5-Methyl-4-Sulfophenyl)Azo]-2-Naphthalenesulfonic Acid Disodium Salt, Ronald Wesley Tennis
A Time Resolved Laser Spectroscopy Study Of Resonance Energy Transfer Between Tb(Iii) And An Organic Dye: 6-Hydroxy-5-[(2-Methoxy-5-Methyl-4-Sulfophenyl)Azo]-2-Naphthalenesulfonic Acid Disodium Salt, Ronald Wesley Tennis
Masters Theses
Intermolecular energy transfer is a process of crucial importance to photochemistry and photophysics. Complexed lanthanide ions are well suited as energy transfer donors because they display dependable absorption and luminescence qualities with narrow rare-earthion emission in addition to relatively long excited-state lifetimes.
This project used a pulsed nitrogen laser and high speed digital techniques to study energy transfer dynamics between excited state Tb(acac)3 and an ionic organic dye called Red 40. Luminescence decay profiles of excited terbium atoms in the presence of the quencher were measured in both high and low viscosity solvents. The effects of solvent viscosity and …

Unsymmetrical diphosphine tungsten complexes, (CO)5W[η1-PPh2CH2P(p-tol)2] and (CO)5W[η1-P(p-tol)2CH2PPh2], were prepared from (CO)5W(NH2Ph) and Ph2PCH2P(p-tol)2. Two approaches were successfully used to synthesize Ph2PCH2P(p-tol)2. The first utilized PPh2CH2Cl, prepared from PPh2H, CH2Cl2, and KOH under phase transfer conditions, from which Ph2PCH2P(p-tol)2 was …
Investigations Into The Synthesis And Transformations Of An Epoxy Β-Lactone, John Farrell
Investigations Into The Synthesis And Transformations Of An Epoxy Β-Lactone, John Farrell
Masters Theses
In connection with the continuing interests in the stereoselective rearrangements of β-lactones, an investigation of the synthesis and transformations of the epoxy β-lactone 4-(1,2-epoxypentyl)-3-trimethylsilyloxetan-2-one was undertaken. Two synthetic strategies to the desired epoxy β-lactone were studied. The first route was a two-step reaction sequence involving the aldol reaction of trimethylsilylacetic acid with (2R,3S)-epoxyhexanal, followed by lactonization of the resulting β-hydroxy acid with benzenesulfonyl chloride. Complications in preparing the requisite β-hydroxy acids under typical aldol reaction conditions rendered this route unworkable. The complexity and intractability of the aldol reaction mixtures was attributed to the multiple possibilities of …

Degradation Of Trazine Compounds Via Metallic Iron Under Acidic Conditions, Tracy Dombek
Masters Theses
The degradation of dissolved dimethoxyatrazine (2-chloro-4,6-dimethoxy-1,3,5-triazine), terbutylazine (2-chloro-4-ethylamino-6-terbutylamino-1,3 ,5-triazine) and deisopropylatrazine (2-amino-4-chloro-6-ethylamino-1,3,5-triazine) via metallic iron was studied as a function of solution pH. Generally, degradation was more rapid the lower the solution pH and higher the compound pKa. For dimethoxyatrazine kSA (kSA= k' (min-1)* V (L) / M (g) I SA(m2/g)) was found to be 1.33 (± 0.07) E-4 min-1 m-2 L at pH 2, 6.1 (± 0.6) E-5 min-1 m-2 L at pH 3 and 4.4 (± 0.6) E-5 min-1 m-2 L at pH 4. For …

Representing Systems Of Exponentials And Projection On Initial Data In The Cauchy Problem, Yu. F. Korobeinik
Turkish Journal of Mathematics
The Cauchy problem for the equation \begin{equation} Mw\equiv \sum_{j=0}^m\sum_{s=0}^{l_j}a_{s,j}\frac{\partial^{s+j}w(z_1,z_2)}{\partial z_1^s\partial z_2^j}=0 \end{equation} \begin{equation} \frac{\partial^nw(z_1,z_2)}{\partial z_2^n}\mid_{z_{2}=0}=\varphi_n(z_1), n=0,1,\ldots , m-1 \end{equation} is investigated under the condition $l_j\leq l_m, j=0,1,\ldots,m-1$. It is shown that the operator of projection of solution of (1) on its initial data (2) in a definite situation has a linear continuous right inverse which can be determined effectively with the help of representing systems of exponentials in the space of initial data.

On The Efficiency Of Finite Simple Semigroups, H. Ayik, C. M. Campbell, J. J. O'Connor, N. Ruskuc
Turkish Journal of Mathematics
Let $S$ be a finite simple semigroup, given as a Rees matrix semigroup $\mathcal{M}[G;I,\Lambda ;P]$ over a group $G$. We prove that the second homology of $S$ is $H_{2}(S)=H_{2}(G)\times {\mathbb Z}^{( I -1)( \Lambda -1)}$. It is known that for any finite presentation $\langle \: A\: \: R\: \rangle$ of $S$ we have $ R - A \geq \mbox{rank}(H_{2}(S))$; we say that $S$ is efficient if equality is attained for some presentation. Given a presentation $\langle \: A_{1}\: \: R_{1}\: \rangle$ for $G$, we find a presentation $\langle \: A\: \: R\: \rangle$ for $S$ such that $ R - …
On Generalized Higher Derivations, Atsushi Nakajima
On Generalized Higher Derivations, Atsushi Nakajima
Turkish Journal of Mathematics
We define the notion of generalized higher derivations and give some elementary relations between generalized higher derivations and higher derivations in the usual sense. We extend the result of an exact sequence of the set of all derivations $\text{Der}(A, M)$ and the set of all generalized derivations $g\text{Der}(A, M)$ given in [N1, Theorem 2.4]. Moreover, we discuss generalized higher Jordan derivations and Lie derivations.

On The Asymptotics Of Fourier Coefficients For The Potential In Hill's Equation, Haskiz Coşkun
Turkish Journal of Mathematics
We consider Hill's equation $y'' +(\lambda -q)y=0$ where $q\in L^{1}[0,\pi ].$ We show that if $l_{n}-$the length of the $n-th$ instability interval$-$ is of order $O(n^{-k})$ then the real Fourier coefficients $a_{n},b_{n}$ of $q$ are of the same order for$(k=1,2,3)$, which in turn implies that $q^{(k-2)}$, the $(k-2)th$ derivative of $q$, is absolutely continuous almost everywhere for $k=2,3.$

Some Commutativity Results For S -Unital Rings, Moharram A. Khan
Turkish Journal of Mathematics
In the present paper, it is shown that if $R$ is a left ( resp. right) $s$-unital ring satisfying $[f(y^mx^ry^s) \pm x^ty, x] = 0$ (resp. $[f(y^mx^ry^s) \pm yx^t, x] = 0),$ where $m, r, s, t$ are fixed non-negative integers and $f(\lambda)$ is a polynomial in ${\lambda}^2{\bf Z}[\lambda],$ then $R$ is commutative. Commutativity of $R$ has also been investigated under different sets of constraints on integral exponents.

On Torsion-Free Barely Transitive Groups, Mahmut Kuzucuoğlu
Turkish Journal of Mathematics
B. Hartley asked the following question: Does there exist a torsion free barely transitive group? Existence of torsion free simple barely transitive group is also unknown. We answer the latter question negatively in a special case. Moreover we proved the following: Let $G$ be a simple barely transitive group, and $H$ be a stabilizer of a point. If for a non-identity element $x \in G$, $C_G (x)$ is infinite then, $C_G (x)$ cannot contain $H$.

Turkish Journal of Mathematics
Let $M, N $ be Orlicz functions, and let $D(\ell_M , \ell_N ) $ be the space of all diagonal operators (that is multipliers) acting between the Orlicz sequence spaces $\ell_M$ and $\ell_N$. We prove that the space of multipliers $D(\ell_M , \ell_N )$ coincides with (and is isomorphic to) the Orlicz sequence space $ \ell_{M_N^{*}} ,$ where $ M_N^{*} $ is the Orlicz function defined by $M_N^{*}(\lambda ) = \sup \{ N(\lambda x) - M(x), \; x \in (0,1) \}$.

On The Linearity Of Certain Mapping Class Groups, Mustafa Korkmaz
On The Linearity Of Certain Mapping Class Groups, Mustafa Korkmaz
Turkish Journal of Mathematics
S. Bigelow proved that the braid groups are linear. That is, there is a faithful representation of the braid group into the general linear group of some field. Using this, we deduce from previously known results that the mapping class group of a sphere with punctures and hyperelliptic mapping class groups are linear. In particular, the mapping class group of a closed orientable surface of genus $2$ is linear.
