The Oxidation Of Natural Sulphides, Harry Clay Kibe
The Oxidation Of Natural Sulphides, Harry Clay Kibe
Bachelors Theses
"Work upon the oxidation of natural sulphides done at this laboratory indicates that laboratory methods might be successfully employed in seeking explanations of certain actual problems in the theory of ore deposition. This led me to experiment further with galena, sphalerite, and iron pyrite, which work confirms the results of Gottschalk and Buehler, namely, that the course of an oxidation is materially effected when mixtures of sulphides are employed rather than single individual minerals"--page 1.

A Study Of Some Problems In Assaying, Aaron Max Shah
A Study Of Some Problems In Assaying, Aaron Max Shah
Bachelors Theses
"It is known that the lead button which we obtain from fire assay for silver does not represent the true value of the ore. There is always a loss of silver. To investigate the effect of varying the fluxes on the loss in silver is the object of the first part of this thesis...Silver ores often contain copper, part of which, during the fusion, enters the lead button, causing trouble during cupellation, since it must be done at a high temperature. It is, then, important to keep copper out of the lead button. The presence of litharge in the fusion …

The Effect Of Antimony On The Assay Of Gold And Silver Ores, Herman Carl Hase, Charles Lewis French
Bachelors Theses
"Our problem was to determine the effect of antimony in assaying for gold and silver. The method of attack was to find loss of gold and silver: 1) with variable antimony and a constant temperature. 2) with variable temperature and constant antimony"--page 1.
The Effect Of Certain Minerals Upon The Volatilization Of Silver Chloride, Boyd Dudley Jr.
The Effect Of Certain Minerals Upon The Volatilization Of Silver Chloride, Boyd Dudley Jr.
Bachelors Theses
"The work undertaken in this investigation was first suggested in connection with the analytical determination of Silver and Chlorine by weighing silver chloride. Later, however, the experiments assumed a metallurgical character. The final purpose of the experiments was to determine the effect of a few of the common mineral constituents of ores on the loss of silver during a chloridizing roast. In the metallurgy of silver it is frequently necessary to change the silver bearing minerals into silver chloride"--page 1.

Analyses Of Limestones And Shales, Byron John Snyder
Analyses Of Limestones And Shales, Byron John Snyder
Bachelors Theses
"The limestones were analyzed to determine their value for cement and lime manufacture, and were taken from several counties in the state of Missouri. Most of the limestones examined were very pure. A considerable quantity of well burned lime is added to other material in the manufacture of cement, a lime of very pure type being the most acceptable in this work"--page 1.

Design Of A Mill For A Cyanide Plant, Charles A. Fach
Bachelors Theses
"Object. Designing a mill, which according to my ideas, would be the best in practice. The machinery used in practice at the present time, is mostly old style. In this work of mine I have substituted a great deal of lately invented machinery which would give much better and quicker results than the machinery now used. Many ideas have come to me while working on this subject which I think would assist me in any further work on the subject"--page 1.
The Systhesis Of Camphor From Pinene, Edwin W. Newbury
The Systhesis Of Camphor From Pinene, Edwin W. Newbury
Bachelors’ Theses
The increasing demand for camphor for use in the manufacture of cellulose plastics has led to a great amount of investigation of the nature of this valuable substance and as to its synthesis from materials which are readily obtainable without the necessity for sending overseas for them. At present most of the camphor used in the manufacture of celluloid and allied compounds is imported from Japan or Borneo, where it is obtained, in a rather crude and wasteful fashion, from a species of laurel. Some scientifically operated camphor plantations have been started in the United States.. In one such plantation …

Assay Of Copper Matte For Gold And Silver, Walter E. Soest
Assay Of Copper Matte For Gold And Silver, Walter E. Soest
Bachelors Theses
"Ores containing copper, and especially copper matte, have always been very annoying in assaying for the precious metals. In assaying copper matte, and ores containing much copper, by the usual method of scorification, the losses of silver an gold are considerable, owing to the fact that in order to obtain lead buttons, which are soft and free from copper, repeated scorifications are necessary, and moreover it is impossible to obtain lead buttons which are entirely free from copper"--page 1.

The Neocene Lake Beds Of Western Montana And Descriptions Of Some New Vertebrates From The Loup Fork, Earl Douglass
Graduate Student Theses, Dissertations, & Professional Papers
Since coming to Montana in the spring of 1894 I have spent rnuoh of ay time in studying the lake bed deposits in the western part of the state, and in collecting and studying the vertebrate fossils found in them. These deposits occur in nearly every large valley in the westem part of the state. I have myself observed them in the valleys of the upper Missouri (above the re-rrion of Helena), Gallatin, Madison, Jefferson, Beaverhead, Ruby, Big Hole, Hell Gate, and Bitter Boot rivers, and their tributaries.

Producer Gas, Edward P. Dwyer
Producer Gas, Edward P. Dwyer
Bachelors Theses
"Producer gas, so named owing to being produced in special forms of apparatus known as Producers. The fuel is decomposed into combustible gases, whereby most of the C is burnt to CO, whilst the H either remains free, or is converted into carburretted Hydrogen. Directly above the grate carbonic anhydride is formed but thus is rapidly converted into carbonic oxide; reaction as follows: CO₂ + C = 2CO.
Amongst these heavy carburetted hydrogen (C₂H₄) is that which principally increases the value of the gas as fuel and the drier the fuel used the more of the gas is produced. A …

Studying Properties Of Xenon Doped Argon And Developing Optical Simulation Techniques For The Legend Collaboration, A Neutrinoless Double Beta Decay Experiment, Neil Christopher Mcfadden Dr
Physics & Astronomy ETDs
Neutrinoless double beta decay is a hypothesized lepton-number-violating process in which two neutrons decay to two protons, producing two electrons but no electron antineutrinos. The LEGEND collaboration will search for this decay in 76Ge. To improve the argon active veto for LEGEND-1000, xenon doped argon was explored as an alternative active volume. Simulations using argon doped with 10 ppm xenon and pure liquid argon were used to predict the light yield from cosmic muons in a 100 liter cryogenic vessel. The simulations predicted that xenon doping would yield 1.83+/-0.02 more light, while an increase of 1.81+/-0.05 was measured. From …
