Factors Affecting The Harvest Vulnerability Of Trumpeter Swans, Heidi L. Tangermann
Factors Affecting The Harvest Vulnerability Of Trumpeter Swans, Heidi L. Tangermann
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
Two species of swan are regularly found in Utah, tundra swans (Cygnus columbianus) and trumpeter swans (Cygnus buccinator). Tundra swans migrate through Utah. During the fall migration period they are hunted in the state under guidelines established by the United States Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS). Trumpeter swans are occasional visitors to Utah during the same migration period. Because trumpeter swans are difficult to distinguish from tundra swans in flight, they 11 are at risk of being harvested during the swan hunt. In my thesis, I examine the factors that may influence trumpeter swan vulnerability to …
Environment-Based Education: Policy, Practice, And Place, Eric N. Wickwire
Environment-Based Education: Policy, Practice, And Place, Eric N. Wickwire
All Master's Theses
The policies of the environment-based education movement are benefiting teachers and students participating in several model programs operating in the United States. Place-centered learning enhances the interdisciplinary practice of Essential Academic Learning Requirements, and actively engages students in local issues. The study of cultural landscapes encourages a sense of place within the Lower Columbia River Gorge, and fosters student connections with the Dalles Mountain Ranch. Policy recommendations are made for environment-based learning in Washington State's public schools. An example place-centered curriculum is outlined for practice at the Dalles Mountain Ranch, and a residential environmental learning center is proposed in the …
Visual Iconic Object-Oriented Programming To Advance Computer Science Education And Novice Programming, Nancy Silva Martinez
Visual Iconic Object-Oriented Programming To Advance Computer Science Education And Novice Programming, Nancy Silva Martinez
Theses and Dissertations - UTB/UTPA
Learning how to program a computer is difficult for most people. Computer programming is a cognitively challenging, time consuming, labor intensive, and frustrating endeavor. Years of formal study and training are required to learn a programming language's world of algorithms and data structures. Instructions are coded in advance before the computer demonstrates the desired behavior. Seeing all the programming steps and instruction code is complicated. There exists a tremendous gap between the representations the human brain uses when thinking about a problem and the representations used in programming a computer. Often people are much better at dealing with specific, concrete …
Incorporating Technology In Mathematics Education: A Suite Of E-Activities For The Modem Mathematics Classroom, Jennifer E. Youngberg
Incorporating Technology In Mathematics Education: A Suite Of E-Activities For The Modem Mathematics Classroom, Jennifer E. Youngberg
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
National studies indicate major deficiencies in students' understanding of mathematics. Research suggests that students tend to view mathematics as a set of computational rules rather than a process of discovery and a tool for problem-solving. Most students fail to grasp the concepts behind the computations.
Technology provides a partial solution to this problem. Over the past decade, computers have emerged as a powerful tool in education. Computers place the control of action in the learning process with the student. They allow students to experiment with, explore, and discover mathematics at their own pace. With computers, students can consider more examples …
Statistical Power Analysis Of Dissertations Completed By Students Majoring In Educational Leadership At Tennessee Universities, Heping Deng
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The purpose of this study was to estimate the level of statistical power demonstrated in recent dissertations in the field of educational leadership. Power tables provided in Cohen's (1988) Statistical Power Analysis for the Behavioral Sciences were used to determine the power of the statistical tests conducted in dissertations selected from five universities in Tennessee. The meta-analytic approach was used to summarize and synthesize the findings. The population of this study consisted of all dissertations successfully defended by doctoral students majoring in educational leadership/administration at East Tennessee State University, the University of Tennessee at Knoxville, Tennessee State University, the University …

Diagnostic Regional Analysis On The Shortfalls In Development And Utilization Of Human Resource In India: A Statistical Study On The Spatial Variations By Districts Of India., Prasanta Pathak Dr.
Doctoral Theses
The main objective of this study has been estimation of model formulations, empirical evaluations and statistical analyses for identifying the existing regional patterns and structures of human resource development in the formative phase of human life-span through education, and the utilisation, or other- wise non-utilisation, during the activity phase of life-span in existing productive and related activities of our labour-abundant developing economy of India. Despite some awareness to the problems of development and balanced-utilisations of human resources into activities and also despite the various follow- up planning efforts undertaken, or stated to be undertaken, as reported in different Five-Year Plan …
A Recycling Proposal For The Vashon Island School District, John Turner Green
A Recycling Proposal For The Vashon Island School District, John Turner Green
All Graduate Projects
The purpose of this study was to identify a process by which the Vashon Island School District could reduce its waste stream and involve and educate students in an environmental ethic that actively seeks to reduce and recycle wastes. A search of the general and educational literature was made. An extensive research of state and local agencies helped to identify appropriate goals and actions for the Vashon School District. The proposal calls for seven specific actions to be taken.

A Quantitative Analysis Of Poverty, Inequality And Consumer Behaviour: The Case Of The Schedule Casts And Tribes Of Karnataka., Shailaja Raghuprasad Dr.
Doctoral Theses
The concept of growth with social justice is basic to the philosophy of development underlying Indian economic Planning. This philosophy is reflected in our former Prime Minister Mrs Indira Gandhi's foreword to the sixth Plan (1980-85) document where she wrote, Economic Growth must be balanced, it must ensure self - reliance, stability and social justice. All sections should be assured that there will be no discrimination'.It is with those weaker sections - rather a segment of them that this study is concerned, Our study is an attempt to look closely at the levels of living and the consumer behaviour of …

A Comparative Investigation Of The Effects Of Frequent Testing Upon Achievement In Secondary Advanced Algebra, John Thomas Fullerton
A Comparative Investigation Of The Effects Of Frequent Testing Upon Achievement In Secondary Advanced Algebra, John Thomas Fullerton
All Master's Theses
Relatively speaking, few studies have concerned themselves with the problem of frequent testing, and as Keys pointed out, empirical evidence, uncomplicated by differences in the amount of testing material employed, on the effects of frequent testing is, at best, scarce (14:427). Also many studies used tests and test results for direct instruction, thus introducing additional variables. Furthermore, the choice of subjects and disciplines has been limited, the better part being taken from college psychology and sociology classes or high school science classes. This investigation was not an attempt to modify previous experiments, nor was it an attempt to identify which …
An Elementary Mathematics Curriculum Study To Determine If Achievement And Attitude Can Be Influenced By A Textbook Adoption, Elsie M. Railey
An Elementary Mathematics Curriculum Study To Determine If Achievement And Attitude Can Be Influenced By A Textbook Adoption, Elsie M. Railey
All Master's Theses
There is on the market a wide range of contemporary mathematics textbooks available. Textbooks approach mathematics differently and there is a variation in terms of the amount of time allocated to a topic, the development of elementary concepts and laws of arithmetic, and the amount of drill and repetition. The sequential development of the texts follows closely, but the scope and content differ significantly. Specifically, it is the purpose of this study to determine if there is a significant difference between series, as opposed to those in another mathematics series, in the variables of attitude and achievement. The two textbooks …

On The Theory Of Quaternions, Earle David Smith
All Master's Theses
Ordered triplets serve to describe space geometrically just as ordered pairs serve to describe the plane. A multiplication can be defined on pairs consistent with the complex numbers. However, as this paper will show, one cannot define a multiplication on triplets which is consistent with the complex numbers.

A Reorganization In The Continuity Of Subject Matter In Mathematics, Beryl E. Warner
A Reorganization In The Continuity Of Subject Matter In Mathematics, Beryl E. Warner
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
This thesis considers a reorganization in the order of arrangement of certain topics in elementary and undergraduate mathematics; i.e. , arithmetic, algebra, plane geometry, solid geometry, trigonometry, analytic geometry, and calculus. Two terms important in the discussion are reorganization, the process of changing the relative position of topics or proofs in mathematics to an earlier or later place in the development of subject matter, and continuity, the logical order of topics arranged according to the need of one to explain the other.
The purpose of the thesis is two-fold; First, to show what arrangement of topics may be desirable; and, …

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations
All the findings and knowledge of electricity and magnetism are not new; even the Greeks as far back as 600 B. C. knew something about these forces. As time went on the facts increased.
After the experiments of Faraday, Maxwell, Hertz and such men as these, electricity and magnetism became a vital part of human life and endeavor. Within the last twenty-five years the advances in electricity have been very rapid. The action of the electric current is a vital part of many developments and is helping to make human life more enjoyable and interesting.
Almost all schools today are …
Experimental And Observational Geometry, Albert D. Field
Experimental And Observational Geometry, Albert D. Field
University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations
Geometry has the distinction of being one of the oldest subjects given in the high-school.
Its subject-matter was formulated and organized by the Greeks into a fine system of thought before the time of Christ. Since leaving the hands of the Greeks, geometry has received only a few minor changes, and these largely in recent years.
Heretofore, the study of geometry has been made almost entirely dependent upon memory and reasoning. Geometricians have been slow in adopting the laboratory and observational methods.
This thesis has been written to encourage the student in his work of observing geometrical forms, and in …
