Homoprotocatechuate Dioxygenase Active Site: Imitating The Secondary Sphere Base Via Computational Design, Muhammed Buyuktemiz, Yavuz Dede

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

Oxidative ring cleavage reactions have attracted great interest and various studies on the catechol ring-cleaving enzyme homoprotocatechuate dioxygenase (HPCD) have been reported in the literature. The available data on how the proton transfer takes place led us to design a potential HPCD model structure. A secondary sphere effect of utmost importance, the assistance of His200, which is critical for the catechol proton to migrate to dioxygen, was cautiously included on the first coordination shell. This was done mainly by modifying the axial ligands in the first coordination shell of HPCD such that the dual basic/acidic role in the proton transfer …

The Chemical And Electrochemical Stimuli Viologen Substituted Phthalocyanine With Tunable Optical Features1, Özge Di̇lara Ateş, Gülenay Tunç, Ahmet Şenocak, Burcu Dedeoğlu, Mehmet Menaf Ayhan, Ayşe Gül Gürek

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

In this study, viologen-tetrasubstituted Zn(II) phthalocyanines (PcV1 and PcV2) were designed and synthesized to achieve the tunable optical features via redox-active viologen groups. Several parameters relevant to the evaluation of the tunable optical features have been investigated: UV-Vis, cyclic voltammetry (CV), EPR, square wave voltammetry (SWV), and theoretical analyses. The results showed that upon reductions and oxidations of viologen groups either chemically or electrochemically, the optical features of PcV1 and PcV2 change drastically with switchable processes. These outcomes indicate that achieving control over optical features of large organic chromophores such as Pc with our rational design can be used for …

The term sonophotodynamic therapy (SPDT) refers to a combination of sonodynamic therapy (SDT) and photodynamic therapy (PDT), in which the efficacy of the treatment is boosted by utilizing the proper amount of a sensitizer that is responsive to both light and ultrasound. Although it has been proven in photophysicochemical studies that SPDT enhances singlet oxygen production, related studies in the literature are very limited. Considering this situation, this study aims to investigate the efficacy of synthesized phthalocyanines in terms of PDT and SPDT. The singlet oxygen quantum values calculated as 0.13 for 5, 0.44 for 6, and 0.61 for 7 …

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

We demonstrate in this work the practical use of uniform mixtures of a bioresin shellac and four natural clays, i.e. montmorillonite, sepiolite, halloysite and vermiculate as dielectrics in organic field effect transistors (OFETs). We present a thorough characterization of their processability and film forming characteristic, surface characterization, elaborate dielectric investigation and the fabrication of field effect transistors with two classic organic semiconductors, i.e. pentacene and fullerene C60. We show that low operating voltage of approximately 4 V is possible for all the OFETs using several combinations of clays and shellac. The capacitance measurements show an improvement of the dielectric constant …

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

In pristine graphitic carbon nitride (g-CN), amino groups often function as structural defects that trap photogenerated charges, resulting in low photocatalytic activity as well as reaction with nitrite, aldehyde, etc., ensuing in poor product yield. Without significantly altering the optical characteristics, the removal of amino groups is necessary to increase the photocatalytic activity and structural stability of pristine g-CN. The deamino graphitic carbon nitride (DA-gCN-5) was prepared by tert-butyl nitrite (TBN)- treatment, characterized and used as a photocatalyst for the radical C-H arylation of heteroarenes using anilines as radical source. Indeed, the photophysical characteristics of DA-gCN-5 and those of pristine …

Recommendations For Improving The Experimental Protocol For The Determination Of Photocatalytic Activity By Nitric Oxide Oxidation Measurements, Seli̇n Ernam, Zeynep Ece Akgül, Deni̇z Üner

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

The photocatalytic nitric oxide (NO) oxidation reaction is used as a standard diagnostic tool for photocatalytic activity according to the well-defined protocol described by ISO Standard 22197-1-2007. This protocol identifies the negative peak showing a NOx concentration drop during a gas flow switch from the calibration bypass to the reactor as adsorption of NOx on the surface. Evidence is provided for this first transient to be due to a dilution effect in the gas phase within the reactor. With proper models of residence time distribution analysis, this transient revealed the internal hydrodynamics and it can be used to determine the …

Effects Of Zsm-5 Zeolite On Pyrolysis Of Polystyrene: From Stabilizing To Catalyzing, Qing Yuan Ma, Zhen Huang, Xuan Ren, Jia Jia Zhao, Fu Chen, Li Jun Teng

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

Nonisothermal pyrolysis measurements of polystyrene (PS)/ZSM-5 zeolite hybrids are conducted in N2 and thermogravimetric results have been kinetically analyzed with different isoconversional methods. Experimental results show that the addition of 5 and 10 wt.% ZSM-5 zeolite has increased the initial pyrolysis temperature of PS while the addition of 20 and 30 wt.% ZSM-5 zeolite can significantly decrease the initial pyrolysis temperature of PS. Elevated activation energy is resulted by adding low zeolite amount whereas reduced activation energy is obtained by adding high ZSM-5 amounts. The effect of zeolite ZSM-5 on PS pyrolysis can thus be observed to transfer from stabilizing …

The spectroscopic techniques (FT-IR and $^{1}$H-NMR, $^{13}$C-NMR) were used to characterize the compounds. Theoretical calculations were used to validate the experimental results. The LanL2DZ-based DFT/B3LYP method was used to define the most stable possible molecular structure for the complexes. Potential energy distribution analysis was performed to determine the theoretical vibration bands of the complexes. Molecular electrostatic potential maps, boundary molecular orbitals and Mulliken charge distribution were used to determine the active sites of the molecules. The interaction mechanisms between the complexes and liver cancer protein were investigated via molecular docking. …

In this study, syntheses of new pyrimidine-coupled N-ß-glucosides and tetra-O-acetyl derivatives were carried out. All glycoconjugates were investigated in comparison with known chemotherapeutic agents in terms of their antimicrobial and anticancer functions and DNA/protein binding affinities. Spectral data showed that all glycoside derivatives were obtained by diastereoselectivity as ß-anomers. Both tested groups exhibited strong antiproliferative activity (2.29?66.84 ?g/mL), but some of them had sufficiently ideal % cytotoxicity values (10.01%?16.78%). And also all synthetic compounds exhibited remarkable antibacterial activity against human pathogenic bacteria. Binding of these compounds to CT-DNA resulted in significant changes in spectral properties, consistent with groove binding. Molecular …
