Turkish Journal of Chemistry

In this study, colloidal CdS quantum dots were synthesized, structurally characterized, and their effect on performance of perovskite solar cells was observed by using them as interface modification agent between TiO2/perovskite. Colloidal CdS quantum dots were synthesized based on two-phase method and characterized by X-ray diffraction and Transmission Electron Microscopy techniques. The average particle size of CdS quantum dots have found to be around 5 nm. Oleic acid was used as capping agent during synthesis to lead solubility in organic solvents. Obtained quantum dots are coated on compact TiO2 layer for surface modification. A decrease was observed when oleic acid …

A Four-Component Modified Biginelli Reaction: A Novel Approach For C-2 Functionalizeddihydropyrimidines, Harsha Narkhede, Avinash Dhake, Vaidhyanathan Balasubramaniyan

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

A novel four component modified Biginelli reaction for the synthesis of C-2 functionalized dihydropyrimidines has been established. The approach uses assembly of less explored acetyl acetone with aromatic aldehyde, thiourea, and dimethyl sulphate to construct a novel 5-acetyl 2-methylthio dihydropyrimidine system, which works as an efficient well-designed intermediate for generating C-2 modified Biginelli libraries with nitrogen nucleophiles. Phenyl hydrazine, semicarbazide, and aryl semicarbazides are successfully used as N-nucleophiles to generate C-2 functionalized dihydropyrimidine derivatives, which fulfil the demands of active pharmacophore. Time economy, step economy, and a single pot reaction with moderate to excellent yield are the major advantages of …

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

The catalytic activity of poly(N-vinylimidazole), a biocompatible and biodegradable synthetic functional polymer, was investigated for the synthesis of oximes as an efficient, halogen-free, and reusable heterogeneous catalyst. The corresponding oximes were afforded in high to excellent yields at room temperature and in short times using the planetary ball mill technique. Some merits, such as the short reaction times and good yields for poorly active carbonyl compounds, and avoiding toxic, expensive, metal-containing catalysts, and hazardous and flammable solvents, can be mentioned for the current catalytic synthesis of the oximes. Furthermore, the heterogeneous organocatalyst could be easily separated after the reaction, and …

The xerogel composites with high surface area and pore volume showed better CO2 adsorption capacity than the pure silica xerogel. After modifying samples with propylene diamine using the wet impregnation method, an increase in CO2 adsorption capacity was observed for the samples except CB/silica xerogel composite. The highest CO2 adsorption capacity was determined as approximately 0.80 mmol/g for amine …

Effect Of Surfactant Types On Particle Size And Morphology Of Flame-Retardantzinc Borate Powder, Yeli̇z İpek

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

Zinc borate is a boron-containing chemical material that is used to increase the flame retardancy of polymeric materials, dyes, cables, fabrics, carpets, and the internal parts of automobiles and planes. Commercially used zinc borate, which has the formula of 2ZnO· 3B$_{2}$ O$_{3}$· 7H$_{2}$ O, has a particle size between 10 and 20 μm. However, recent studies have shown that nanosized flame retardants have more superior flame retardancy and less negative effects on mechanical properties than microsized flame retardants. Nanosized flame retardants disperse more homogeneously and even low quantities are sufficient to provide high flame resistance. In this study, nano zinc …

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

Choline derivatives were covalently immobilized on the surface of γ -aminated silica. The obtained immobilized choline derivative was then successfully used for a transesterification reaction to produce glycerophosphocholine (GPC). Fourier transform infrared analysis and thermogravimetric analysis/differential thermal gravimetry indicated that the surface of the γ -aminated silica was covered by choline derivatives and the highest immobilization amount reached 1.1 mmol/g under optimal conditions. More importantly, the highest yield of GPC reached 97.9% during transesterification. With regard to GPC in food or medicine for human use, the immobilization technology can avoid catalyst contamination of the product and increase the safety of …

Cyclodextrins (CDs) are natural, nontoxic, and biodegradable macrocyclic oligosaccharides. As supramolecular hosts, CDs have numerous applications in many aspects. However, nonsubstituted CDs have the disadvantages of solubility, unspecific recognition sites, and weak interactions with guest molecules. Therefore, new CD-based derivatives are successfully designed, synthesized, and widely used in various fields. This contribution outlines the research progress in CD derivatives. In particular, this review emphasizes the synthesis and application of CDs modified through functionalization in definite positions, random substitution, and reconstruction of the skeleton. At the end of this review, a summary and future directions are presented.

Activated carbon (AC), a porous material with high pore volume, attracts increasing attention owing to its potential applications in several fields. The development of a porous structure in AC marginally relies on both the treatment methods and the type of precursor. Thus far, both renewable and nonrenewable precursor sources have been used to synthesize AC with high surface area and pore volume. This study presents the synthesis of AC via physicochemical treatment of waste oil fly ash (OFA), a waste material produced from power plants. The aim was to produce AC by adding surface pores and surface functional groups to …
