Ftir Analysis Of Aviation Fuel Deposits, Larry S. Helmick, Gary T. Seng Sep 1984

Ftir Analysis Of Aviation Fuel Deposits, Larry S. Helmick, Gary T. Seng

Science and Mathematics Faculty Publications

Five modes of operat1on (absorpt1on, em1ssion, single reflectance, attenuated total reflectance, and photoacoust1c) of a N1colet 7199 Fourier Transform Infrared Spectrophotometer have been 1nvest1gated in order to determ1ne which modes were most su1table for qualitative analysis of jet fuel depos1ts. The absorption and emission modes were'found to be the most advan~ tageous for invest1gation of the bulk and surface propert1es of accelerated storage/thermal depos1ts where relat1vely large quantit1es of depos1t are generally ava1lable.

The general effects of fuel type, stress temperature, stress time, type of sp1k1ng agent, sp1k1ng agent concentration, fuel flow, and postdepos1t1onal treatment on the chem1cal nature of …

A Statistical Comparison Of A Direct Filtration And A Conventional Water Treatment Facility In The Intermountain Region, Susan K. Burns, V. Dean Adams Sep 1984

A Statistical Comparison Of A Direct Filtration And A Conventional Water Treatment Facility In The Intermountain Region, Susan K. Burns, V. Dean Adams

Reports

Interest in low-cost direct filtration facilities and their effectiveness in treating the potable water sources of the Intermountain Region is increasing as the need for treated water supplies increase. Direct filtration is a water treatment scheme which does not include sedimentation and in some cases flocculation. Compared to conventional treatment, direct filtration has lowered capital costs, reduced space requirement, and decreased sludge quantities. Moreover, the direct filtration process may offer large reductions in coagulant dosages and costs.

Currently information comparing a direct filtration system to a conventional water treatment system in the Intermountain area is not readily available. The specific …

Nebraska Tractor Tests

EXPLANATION OF THE TEST PROCEDURE General Tractors are tested at the University of Nebraska according to the Agricultural Tractor Test Code approved by the American Society of Agricultural Engineers and the Society of Automotive Engineers or official Nebraska test procedure. The manufacturer selects the tractor to be tested and certifies that it is a stock model. Each tractor is equipped with the common power consuming accessories such as power steering, power lift pump, generator, etc., if available. Power consuming accessories may be disconnected only when the means for disconnecting can be reached from the operating station. An official representative of …

Three-Reflection Halfwave And Quarterwave Retarders Using Dielectric-Coated Metallic Mirrors, T. F. Thonn, R. M.A. Azzam Aug 1984

Three-Reflection Halfwave And Quarterwave Retarders Using Dielectric-Coated Metallic Mirrors, T. F. Thonn, R. M.A. Azzam

Electrical Engineering Faculty Publications

A design procedure is described to determine the thicknesses of single-layer coatings of a given dielectric on a given metallic substrate so that a specified net phase retardance (and/or a net relative amplitude attenuation) between the p and s polarizations is achieved after three reflections from a symmetrical arrangement of three mirrors that maintain collinearity of the input and output beams. Examples are presented of halfwave and quarterwave retarders (HWR and QWR) that use a ZnS-Ag film-substrate system at the CO2-laser wavelength λ = 10.6 µm. The equal net reflectances for the p and s polarizations are computed …

Inverting The Ratio Of The Complex Parallel And Perpendicular Reflection Coefficients Of An Absorbing Substrate Using A Transparent Thin-Film Coating, R. M.A. Azzam Jul 1984

Inverting The Ratio Of The Complex Parallel And Perpendicular Reflection Coefficients Of An Absorbing Substrate Using A Transparent Thin-Film Coating, R. M.A. Azzam

Electrical Engineering Faculty Publications

An absorbing substrate can be coated with a transparent thin film of refractive index N1 (within a certain range) and thickness d such that the ratio of complex reflection coefficients for the p_and s polarizations of the film-covered substrate ρ = Rp/Rs is the inverse of that of the film-free substrate ρ¯ = R¯p/R¯s at an angle of incidence ø. A method to determine the relationship among ø, N1, and d that inverts ρ (i.e., makes ρ = 1/ρ¯) for a given substrate at a given wavelength is described and is …
