PRAIRIE: Pioneering Responsible AI for Research, Innovation, and Education
As AI rapidly reshapes how we work and learn, employers increasingly seek graduates who can think before they prompt, exercising judgment under pressure rather than merely producing output. Yet students are praised for AI use in one course and penalized for it in the next, and faculty are left to lead responsibly on shifting ground, with no shared language to guide them.

This Capstone Review Thesis discusses the current structure of the Computer Science Degree path and Computer Science Capstone at PSU. This thesis reviews the Conello Vendor Marketplace Capstone, a project designed to help address the issue of teambuilding in the workplace. It points out ways in which teamwork and organization is an underdeveloped skill in Computer Science. How To Save The Take-Home Essay With Oral Assessments, Matthew Hammerton, Jacqueline Ho

In a commentary, the authors opined that pairing take-home essays with oral assessments is a more effective response to AI than policing its use. Students who cannot adequately explain their work can be marked down, reducing incentives to rely on AI. They noted that oral exams help preserve key elements of university education – intellectual effort, ownership, and human relationships – while allowing take-home essays to remain relevant in an AI-driven landscape that demands greater emphasis on understanding, responsibility, and dialogue.

Transparent Design in Learning and Teaching (TILT) is widely promoted as an evidence-based framework intended to clarify expectations, promote equity, and improve student learning. While prior research reports positive outcomes across many disciplines, less is known about how transparency functions in quantitative, problem-solving courses such as calculus, where students often value efficiency and autonomy. In the modern high school physics classroom, the rapid proliferation of generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) has created a unique educational challenge. While these tools can solve complex problems quickly, they often lead to cognitive offloading, where students bypass the internal dialogue and deep thinking needed for true understanding. Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) have expanded access to higher education but continue to face persistently high dropout rates, raising concerns about their long‑term effectiveness and sustainability. This study develops and empirically tests a structural framework that links utilitarian values (perceived usefulness, certificate value, time flexibility), hedonic values (enjoyment, variety and novelty, personal interest alignment), and individual characteristics (goal orientation, self‑efficacy, motivation type) to MOOC student retention. Data were collected through a structured questionnaire administered to 200 MOOC learners from Christ University, Lavasa Campus, and analyzed using Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) in AMOS. At Chapman University, librarians have developed an AI literacy session that integrates ethics and hands-on exploration into workshops and course-embedded sessions. Learning to construct mathematical proofs—formal arguments demonstrating the truth of a mathematical statement using logical deductions and previously established facts—is one of the most challenging skills in STEM education. This research aims to build the foundations for a symbolic cognitive model, using the ACT-R cognitive architecture and implementing in Python with the pyactr package, to explore how different proof strategies can be thought through with only symbols and rules. The purpose of this quantitative, predictive correlational study was to examine the extent to which perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use predict behavioral intention and actual usage of electronic medical record systems among nurses who have passed the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses. Using the Technology Acceptance Model, this study sought to address a gap in the literature regarding the level of user acceptance and utilization of EMR systems among nursing students during their training in higher education institutions. Mixing machine learning with modeling is an area of increasing importance. This paper presents a lesson where students model a spring-mass system both using traditional analysis with linear damping and using machine learning to learn the damping from real data. The machine learning is implemented in a Jupyter notebook hosted on Google Colab, allowing students to train the neural network without requiring the students to carry out coding. We present a method of estimating model parameters for non-linear ODEs using least-squares regression. The coefficient of determination can be used as a measure of model fit. The method is demonstrated using US population data to fit a logistic growth model. Also, a competing species model is used to describe the interaction of two different species of yeast.

The fast-paced changes caused by generative AI (GenAI) innovations call for exploring the potential benefits of GenAI in empowering 21st-century pedagogical strategies. Previous studies in the field of argumentation have shown how students can benefit from using critical questions. However, scaffolding argument evaluation through custom GenAI using critical questions has not been systematically investigated. This explanatory sequential mixed methods study explored how digital literacy and language proficiency impact employees’ access to and engagement with digital training, as well as how these experiences influence their perceptions of training and the organization. In the quantitative phase, survey data were collected from hourly employees at a large foodservice corporation (n=67). Four constructs were assessed: digital literacy, language proficiency, accessibility, and engagement. Results indicated strong, statistically significant relationships with higher levels of digital literacy and language proficiency associated with greater accessibility and increased engagement with digital training materials. This article explores how ordinary people can be pulled into extremist movements and what psychological forces drive that process. It looks at three perspectives: social identity theory, which explains how group belonging shapes behavior, identity development, which shows how people searching for meaning may find it in extremist causes; and social neuroscience, which connects radicalization to brain activity linked to fear, loyalty, and moral judgement. Together, these approaches show that radicalization is not simply about ideology but about identity, emotion, and belonging. By understanding these dynamics, we can find better ways to prevent extremism and promote healthier, more inclusive communities.

Null hypothesis testing is a widely used paradigm for assessing research hypotheses across the social sciences. Despite their ubiquity, researchers have discussed a number of problems and limitations to hypothesis testing and have suggested alternatives that might provide greater depth and explanation of research results. The purpose of this paper is to describe the use of several such alternatives and to show how they can be integrated with one another and with null hypothesis testing in order to provide a more holistic view of research hypotheses.

Objectives: The study aims to investigate the perspectives of university teachers and students on integrating practical science teaching with virtual learning in a multicultural and diverse society, specifically within the context of southwestern Nigeria.
Methods: A mixed-methods approach was employed, involving data collection from 100 university lecturers and 400 undergraduate students across 10 universities. Qualitative data were gathered through semi-structured interviews with lecturers and focus group discussions with students. Quantitative data were obtained via structured questionnaires, allowing for triangulation and comprehensive analysis.

This thesis examines the disproportionate burden of lead exposure carried by low income, POC communities. The systemic nature of this problem is a symptom of a longstanding legacy of environmental injustice in the United States. Decades of federal neglect are reflected in the higher statistics of lead exposure and poisoning in predominantly black communities. Providing individualized feedback to math students is a resource-intensive bottleneck in STEM education. We present Mentir-AI, a tool designed to elevate teacher capacity by generating high-quality mathematical feedback using the Mathforum's "Problem of the Week" archive. By analyzing a corpus of nearly one million interactions, we compare the efficacy of Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) and Fine-Tuning (FT) architectures. This study details the development of an automated grading pipeline, the evolution of a multi-component system prompt, and the implementation of an automated mentor grading system in AI-led evaluation. This research develops a free, accessible web application that enables K-6 students who are blind or visually impaired (BVI) to learn STEM concepts using refreshable braille displays. Currently, most online learning tools are not designed for BVI students, creating a significant educational barrier.
The application interfaces with commercial braille displays and uses narrative-based learning to make STEM content approachable and engaging.
