This premature fusion is referred to as a type of craniosynostosis and has been linked to causing several other health complications ranging in severity. This is …
Emergent Ai, Jillian A. Bick
Emergent Ai, Jillian A. Bick
CAFE Symposium 2024
For many years, artificial intelligence (AI) was considered to be limited in its abilities due to being confined to a pre-defined set of data. Currently, however, AI models have grown in complexity and size, leading to some previously impossible behaviors. These behaviors, known as "emergent AI behaviors," are unpredictable and not pre-programmed. Their existence suggests that AI is expanding in adaptability and may one day rival human intelligence. Media often portrays AI as having emotions and having the ability to operate autonomously, but what behaviors are AI really capable of?

Containerization Of Seafarers In The International Shipping Industry: Contemporary Seamanship, Maritime Social Infrastructures, And Mobility Politics Of Global Logistics, Liang Wu
Dissertations, Theses, and Capstone Projects
This dissertation discusses the mobility politics of container shipping and argues that technological development, political-economic order, and social infrastructure co-produce one another. Containerization, the use of standardized containers to carry cargo across modes of transportation that is said to have revolutionized and globalized international trade since the late 1950s, has served to expand and extend the power of international coalitions of states and corporations to control the movements of commodities (shipments) and labor (seafarers). The advent and development of containerization was driven by a sociotechnical imaginary and international social contract of seamless shipping and cargo flows. In practice, this liberal, …

Quantum Computing: Computing Of The Future Made Reality, Janelle Mathis
KSU Proceedings on Cybersecurity Education, Research and Practice
Abstract—Quantum computing is an emerging new area focused on technology consisting of quantum theory aspects such as electrons, sub-atomic particles, and other materials engineered using quantum mechanics. Through quantum mechanics, these computers can solve problems that classical computers deem too complex. Today the closest computing technology compared to quantum computers are supercomputers, but similarly to classical computers, supercomputers also have faults. With supercomputers, when a problem is deemed too complex, it is due to the classical machinery components within the computer, thus causing a halt in solving the task or problem. In contrast, these problems could be solved with a …
