A severely damaged 19th-century oil painting depicting a portrait of a woman was treated at Patricia H. and E. Garman Art Conservation Department. A typed letter provided by the owner mentioned that it has been previously restored yet returned with unsatisfactory results. After further examination, the painting appeared to have been previously treated multiple times by different people. There was overpaint distinctly present on the face and later discovered to be present overall. The full state of condition of the painting was initially unknown due to the sum of the surface being overpainted. However, there were evidence of paint loss …

This thesis investigates the potential positive impact of fostering empathy and understanding for the natural world through art education. Through action research, this study examines various teaching approaches, such as incorporating scientific knowledge, employing literature to discuss ecological themes, and engaging in participatory storytelling activities to cultivate empathy among elementary school children. The rise of conversational user interfaces (CUIs) powered by large language models (LLMs) is transforming human-computer interaction. This study evaluates the efficacy of LLM-powered chatbots, trained on website data, compared to browsing websites for finding information about organizations across diverse sectors. A within-subjects experiment with 165 participants was conducted, involving similar information retrieval (IR) tasks using both websites (GUIs) and chatbots (CUIs). Throughout history, both quadratic and cubic polynomials have been rich sources for the discovery and development of deep mathematical properties, concepts, and algorithms. In this article, we explore both classical and modern findings concerning three key attributes of polynomials: roots, fixed points, and modulus. Utilizing synchrotron radiation, X-ray fluorescence (XRF) microscopy enables researchers to deduce the elemental composition of paint pigments with a higher sensitivity and resolution than that of lab-based XRF instruments. With this information, art historians can date paintings by examining the elemental makeup of paint pigments and the time periods in which they were used. One painting, Christ and the Woman Taken in Adultery, has been duplicated by Pieter Brueghel the Younger and other artists, leading to confusion over which artworks are Brueghel masterpieces or copies by other artists. This project was undertaken as an IDS-100H course linkage between ceramics and chemistry. Through time spent reviewing literature and time in the studio, a project was developed that allowed the application of technical skills of each discipline in a creative fashion. Symmetry is often regarded as an integral aspect about aesthetics. This motivates the pursuit of interdisciplinary studies based on the use of subjects in mathematics concerned with symmetry in conjunction with aesthetics. What is referred to as a symmetric function in the field of algebraic combinatorics is an abstraction based on polynomials that exhibit a symmetric property, and this leads us to pursue an algebraic combinatorics-inspired exploration based on aesthetics. In particular, we use different bases and transitions between them to create aesthetically pleasing visualizations of symmetric functions. We see that these visualizations in turn raise new and interesting questions.

This study investigates the perceived values of AI-designed clothing (quality, emotion, ease) and their impact on willingness to pay (WTP) and word-of-mouth (WOM), with the moderating effect of gender differences. A total of 314 respondents completed the survey via MTurk. Participants watched a video clip demonstrating how an AI system creates various clothing designs by altering garment elements (e.g., style, size). After watching the video clip, they were asked to answer a series of questions about the AI-designed clothing and themselves. The collected data were analyzed using AMOS 26.0.
