Microrna Expression In Putative Cancer Stem Cells Isolated From Canine Mammary Gland Tumour Cells With Differing Sensitivity To Doxorubicin, Kabiru Sahabi, Gayathri Thevi Selvarajah, Mohd Mokrish Md Ajat, Rasedee Abdullah, Cheah Y. Kqueen

The Thai Journal of Veterinary Medicine

Cancer stem cells (CSCs) are capable of initiating tumour development and causing recurrence after treatment. The objective of this study was to determine the miRNAs, downstream target mRNAs, and signalling pathways in CSCs isolated from doxorubicin-sensitive and doxorubicin-resistant canine mammary adenocarcinoma cell lines. MicroRNA expression was profiled using Agilent SurePrint® microarrays. MicroRNA data were analyzed using Agilent GeneSpring® software, and TargetScan and WikiPathways were used to identify genes and pathways targeted by the differentially expressed miRNAs. Six miRNAs were differentially expressed in CSCs isolated from doxorubicinsensitive cells, while fourteen miRNAs were differentially expressed in CSCs isolated from doxorubicin-resistant …

Proteomic Comparison Of Canine Gallbladder Versus Hepatic Neuroendocrine Neoplasms, Nadia Richmond Apr 2025

Proteomic Comparison Of Canine Gallbladder Versus Hepatic Neuroendocrine Neoplasms, Nadia Richmond

LSU Master's Theses

Hepatobiliary neuroendocrine neoplasms (HBNENs) are uncommon tumors in people and dogs, and the limited understanding of their biologic behavior often poses a diagnostic and prognostic challenge in the clinical setting. Though only a low number of cases have been described in dogs, there is evidence to indicate that primary gallbladder NENs may carry a more favorable prognosis compared to primary hepatic NENs. The emergence of liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS) in proteomic analysis has permitted large-scale analysis of neoplastic proteomes, allowing for better understanding of tumor pathophysiology while simultaneously enabling the rapid identification of protein biomarkers. Previous work in our laboratory …

The Thai Journal of Veterinary Medicine

A 2-year-old intact female Scottish fold cat was presented to the Prasu-Arthorn Animal Hospital, Faculty of Veterinary Science, Mahidol University, for a right nephrectomy because a renal mass was suspected. During the physical examination, the animal had an intra-abdominal mass with abdominal discomfort. No history of vomiting and diarrhea was reported. The blood chemistry and hematology revealed a markedly low albumin/globulin ratio and mild anemia with normal leukogram. The abdominal ultrasonographic examination and CT scan revealed an intestinal mass at the ileocecocolic junction. The mass was surgically excised, and jejuno-colic anastomosis was performed. Grossly, the mass was firm, very well …

Synchronous Tri-Cavitary Biphasic Malignant Mesothelioma In A Dog Presenting With Dyspnea, Nawarus Prapaiwan, Tawewan Issarankura Na Ayudhaya, Poonavit Pichayapaiboon, Onrampha Tanglakmankhong Sep 2024

Synchronous Tri-Cavitary Biphasic Malignant Mesothelioma In A Dog Presenting With Dyspnea, Nawarus Prapaiwan, Tawewan Issarankura Na Ayudhaya, Poonavit Pichayapaiboon, Onrampha Tanglakmankhong

The Thai Journal of Veterinary Medicine

Malignant mesothelioma is an uncommon tumor that has a challenging diagnosis and a tendency for late diagnosis. A 7-year-old intact male dog presented with respiratory distress. Thoracic radiography revealed pleural effusion and bone reactions at multiple ribs. A computerized tomography scan with rib biopsy was suggested as a diagnosis plan. Unfortunately, the dog died. Gross pathological findings demonstrated multifocal to coalescing, pinkish-white firm masses scattered over the parietal pleural surface, extended to the serosa of the diaphragm and the pericardium, making them adhere to each other and causing the coalescence of a white irregular mass at the diaphragm. Multiple white …

Stem Cell Therapy For Canine And Feline Patients With Chronic Kidney Disease, Seth Clark May 2024

Stem Cell Therapy For Canine And Feline Patients With Chronic Kidney Disease, Seth Clark

Honors College Theses

This research aimed to statistically analyze the relationship between stem cell therapy and chronic renal failure in a sample of canine and feline patients. Stem cell therapy is a burgeoning field in both human and veterinary medicine, seeking mainly to better understand disease incidence and repair damaged tissues, such as those involved in spinal cord injuries and Alzheimer’s disease. In relation to veterinary medicine, prior research suggests that stem cell therapy has potential to be an effective tool against diseases such as acute kidney injury and chronic kidney disease. This project examined how autologous adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells affected the …

Dirofilaria Immitis Prevalence In Canis Latrans In Kentucky, Melanie Ann Brandon Jan 2021

Dirofilaria Immitis Prevalence In Canis Latrans In Kentucky, Melanie Ann Brandon

Murray State Theses and Dissertations

Dirofilaria immitis (canine heartworm) was found in forty-two (42) of the two hundred seventy-five (275) Canis latrans (coyote) necropsied in the state of Kentucky from November 27, 2019 through March 3, 2021. Thirty-five (35) of the positive cases were from western Kentucky region with the other seven spread across the state. With this group of coyotes, one hundred fifty-eight (158) were male and the other one hundred six-teen (116) were female. The estimated age ranged from a pup to senior dogs. A little over forty percent of the dogs were obtained through coyote/predator tournaments; the remaining were acquired from pest …

Release Kinetics Of Methylene Blue In Pluronic F-127 Hydrogel, Meredith Hayden Aug 2019

Release Kinetics Of Methylene Blue In Pluronic F-127 Hydrogel, Meredith Hayden

Animal Science Undergraduate Honors Theses

“Between January 1998 and March 2000, veterinarians at the ASPCA National Animal Poison Control Center (NAPCC) consulted on more than 1,050 cases of accidental exposures to acetaminophen and 1,100 cases of ibuprofen ingestion in dogs and cats” (Richardson, 2000).

NSAID toxicity has become an increasingly common occurrence in small companion animals within the last decade due to widespread usage (Zhou, Boudreau, & Freedman, 2014). Depending on the specific drug, treatment is centered around early decontamination and prevention of kidney and hepatic damage, and methemoglobanemia. Currently, methemoglobanemia is treated with intravenous delivery of methylene blue and less commonly through oral administration. …

How To Care For Orphan Lambs, Stanley M. Dennis Jan 1965

How To Care For Orphan Lambs, Stanley M. Dennis

Journal of the Department of Agriculture, Western Australia, Series 4

WITH the current high price and shortage of sheep in W.A., farmers might consider the bother of artificially rearing orphan lambs more worthwhile than before.
