Feasibility Of Computed Tomography For Differentiating Calcium Oxalate And Struvite Calculi Using Mean Hounsfield Unit And Hounsfield Density, Somchin Sutthigran, Phasamon Saisawart, Vachira Hunprasit, Nan Choisunirachon, Kiatpichet Komin

The Thai Journal of Veterinary Medicine

Accurate preoperative prediction of cystic calculi composition is essential for effective treatment planning in dogs. This prospective study aims to investigate the utility of non-contrast multi-detector computed tomography (MDCT) in differentiating calcium oxalate (CaOx) and struvite calculi based on mean Hounsfield unit (HU) and HU density values. Nineteen client-owned dogs with confirmed cystic calculi underwent non-contrast MDCT imaging at 80 and 120 kilovoltage peak (kVp) settings prior to surgical removal. Calculi composition was determined via laboratory analysis. Mean HU and HU density were measured and compared between calculi types. The results showed CaOx calculi demonstrated significantly higher mean HU (1317.53 …

Computed Tomography Features For Differentiating Mast Cell Tumors And Soft Tissue Sarcomas In Subcutaneous Masses In Dogs, Seri Hong, Daji Noh, Kija Lee, Hojung Choi, Youngwon Lee, Sooyoung Choi

The Thai Journal of Veterinary Medicine

This study aimed to investigate the computed tomography (CT) features of mast cell tumors (MCTs) and soft tissue sarcomas (STSs) in subcutaneous masses of dogs and to identify distinguishing characteristics between these two tumor types. This retrospective, multicenter study included 22 dogs with subcutaneous masses diagnosed as MCTs (n = 11) or STSs (n = 11) via fine needle aspiration or excisional biopsy. The CT features were evaluated based on four categories: location, morphological characteristics (including shape, margin, capsulation, size, and long axis to short axis (L/S) ratio of the lesion), internal parenchymal characteristics (including cavitation, vascularization, mineralization, homogeneity and …

Necrotic Lung Tumor Mimicking Primary Pulmonary Abscess On Computed Tomographic Imaging Study In A Dyspneic Dog, Mihyun Choi, Namsoon Lee Sep 2024

Necrotic Lung Tumor Mimicking Primary Pulmonary Abscess On Computed Tomographic Imaging Study In A Dyspneic Dog, Mihyun Choi, Namsoon Lee

The Thai Journal of Veterinary Medicine

A 14-year-old spayed female Shih-Tzu dog was evaluated for a 1-month history of progressive coughing. Results of the complete blood count and serum biochemistry panel indicated inflammation. Thoracic radiography showed pleural effusion, and cytology revealed septic pyothorax. After antibiotics medication, the patient improved clinical signs but relapsed pleural effusion with a suspicious lung lesion. Computed tomography (CT) of the thorax showed a cavitary lesion with ring-enhanced irregular walls and poorly defined margins in the left cranial lung lobe. The main differential diagnosis considered was lung abscess, but the histopathological diagnosis was necrotic lung adenocarcinoma. This case suggests that both a …

Cervical Lymphangiosarcoma In A Poodle Dog: Surgical Treatment And Chemotherapy, Minkyung Kim, Young-Hwan Kim, Jae-Eun Hyun Aug 2024

Cervical Lymphangiosarcoma In A Poodle Dog: Surgical Treatment And Chemotherapy, Minkyung Kim, Young-Hwan Kim, Jae-Eun Hyun

The Thai Journal of Veterinary Medicine

A 7-year-old neutered male Poodle exhibited a persistent caudoventral cervical mass with draining lesions characterized by chronic and relapsing features. Upon presentation, the mass measured 7 × 11 × 11.5 cm, containing sanguine fluid. Computed tomography revealed the diffuse extension of the cervical mass from the C3 level to the thoracic inlet, affecting the sternal lymph node. Extensive surgical removal was attempted with meticulous resection to avoid damaging the right jugular vein, carotid sheath, and vagus nerve within the mass. Histopathology and immunohistochemical staining for factor VIII confirmed the diagnosis of lymphangiosarcoma. Due to inadequate surgical margin excision, four cycles …

Conventional Vs Three-Dimensional Computed Tomography For Measurement Of Tibial Tuberosity To Trochlear Groove Distance In Small Breed Dogs With And Without Medial Patellar Luxation, Radka S. Garnoeva Aug 2024

Conventional Vs Three-Dimensional Computed Tomography For Measurement Of Tibial Tuberosity To Trochlear Groove Distance In Small Breed Dogs With And Without Medial Patellar Luxation, Radka S. Garnoeva

The Thai Journal of Veterinary Medicine

The operative technique for medial patellar luxation (MPL) is dependent on the degree of accompanying bone deformities. The most frequent abnormalities: the shallow trochlear groove and tibial tuberosity medialisation are corrected surgically with trochleoplasty and tibial tuberosity transposition, respectively. The aim of the present study was to determine the distance between the tibial tuberosity and the trochlear groove (TT-TG) on two-dimensional axial computed tomography (CT) scans and three-dimensional multiplanar reconstruction images from 21 stifles from healthy dogs and 15 stifles from dogs with grade 2 MPL and to compare the performance of both methods. Two axial CT scans of the …

Normal Thymus Evaluation Using Radiographs And Computed Tomographic Images In Young And Adult Dogs, Yoenhee Park, Sang-Kwon Lee, Sooyoung Choi, Hojung Choi, Youngwon Lee, Kija Lee Jun 2024

Normal Thymus Evaluation Using Radiographs And Computed Tomographic Images In Young And Adult Dogs, Yoenhee Park, Sang-Kwon Lee, Sooyoung Choi, Hojung Choi, Youngwon Lee, Kija Lee

The Thai Journal of Veterinary Medicine

The thymus generally presents as a sail-shaped soft-tissue opacity on thoracic radiographs in young, pre-pubescent dogs. After puberty, lymphatic tissue is replaced by adipose tissue and can usually no longer be identified on radiographs; however, thymic remnants have often been observed in adult dogs. The objective of this retrospective descriptive study was to investigate the incidence of thymic remnants using thoracic radiographs and to analyze the incidence in dogs by age, sex and breed. We analyzed the data from 1,464 dogs that underwent both thoracic ventrodorsal and right lateral radiography, of which 40 underwent both radiography and computed tomography (CT). …

Comparison Of Abdominal Computed Tomography To Ultrasound In The Diagnosis Of Canine Biliary Disease Manifesting As Acute Abdominal Signs, Shanna Christine Marroquin May 2022

Comparison Of Abdominal Computed Tomography To Ultrasound In The Diagnosis Of Canine Biliary Disease Manifesting As Acute Abdominal Signs, Shanna Christine Marroquin

Theses and Dissertations

Biliary diseases are uncommon, potentially fatal causes of acute abdomen in dogs. Little information is present comparing the performance of computed tomography (CT) to ultrasound in identifying canine biliary pathology. Thirty-five client-owned dogs presenting for acute abdomen signs received an abdominal ultrasound and contrast-enhanced abdominal CT. Two authors reviewed the randomized, anonymized CT and ultrasound studies. Twenty-eight dogs had biliary pathology and seven dogs serving as controls had no evidence of biliary disease. The final diagnoses of patients with biliary pathology included cholelithiasis, gallbladder mucoceles, cholangiohepatitis/cholangitis, extrahepatic biliary obstruction, gallbladder wall edema, gallbladder wall mass, and cystic mucosal hyperplasia. Computed …
