Presumptive Feline Infectious Peritonitis-Associated Uveitis With Posterior Segment Mass-Like Lesions On Ultrasonography, Hyun-Wook Kim, Danbee Kwon, Joon Young Kim

The Thai Journal of Veterinary Medicine

5-year-old neutered male domestic shorthair cat was presented with unilateral anterior uveitis and ocular pain in the left eye without systemic signs. Ophthalmic examination revealed a superficial corneal ulcer, keratic precipitates, and aqueous flare. Ocular ultrasonography identified ciliary body thickening and a nodular mass-like lesion posterior to the ciliary body. Despite systemic corticosteroid treatment after corneal ulcer healing, no clinical improvement was observed. Computed tomography revealed contrast-enhancing thickening of the ciliary body and uveoscleral region. Enucleation and histopathology demonstrated pyogranulomatous inflammation without evidence of neoplasia or detectable infectious organisms. Immunohistochemistry for feline coronavirus antigen was not performed at that time. …

The Thai Journal of Veterinary Medicine

A 3-year-old domestic shorthair cat presented with severe diffuse skin lacerations and cutaneous nodules with purulent discharge. Primary immune-mediated panniculitis was diagnosed. After surgical excision of the lesions, immunosuppressive therapy with prednisolone and mycophenolate mofetil was initiated. The cutaneous lesions resolved, and no recurrence was observed over a 2-year follow-up period.

Safety Study Of Polyunsaturated Fatty Acids Extracted From New Zealand Green Lipped Mussel And Krill On Hematology And Blood Chemistry Profiles Of Healthy Dogs And Cats, Uttra Jamikorn, Panumas Kongpanna

The Thai Journal of Veterinary Medicine

New Zealand green-lipped mussel (Perna canaliculus) is a shellfish with a green shell containing many types of fatty acids, especially polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs). The aim of the present study was to investigate the safety of dietary PUFAs supplementation on blood hematology, chemistry and coagulogram pancreatic enzymes in dogs and cats. Twelve healthy beagle dogs and healthy mature cats were used in these studies. Complete randomized block and triplicate 4×4 Latin square designs were used for these dog and cat safety studies, respectively. Experimental diets composed of sham control (0X) and 3 treatment groups, including 1X, 3X, and …

A 10-year-old sterilized female DSH cat was referred to the Small Animal Teaching Hospital (SATH), Faculty of Veterinary Science, Chulalongkorn University for diagnosis and treatment. She was quiet, alert, and responsive (QAR) and had a normal appetite. The clinical sign of upper respiratory distress with stridor had been presented for more than three months. Computed tomography (CT) and radiography examination were used for diagnosis, and the results showed a soft tissue mass in the nasopharyngeal region. The morphology and position of the nasopharyngeal mass were demonstrated by retrograde rhinoscopy, which was underwent a biopsy simultaneously. Histopathological examination indicated an amelanotic …

Monorchidism With Ipsilateral Renal Agenesis In A Cat, Jinyoung Choi, Sungin Lee Sep 2024

Monorchidism With Ipsilateral Renal Agenesis In A Cat, Jinyoung Choi, Sungin Lee

The Thai Journal of Veterinary Medicine

A 1-year-old intact male ragdoll weighing 5.9 kg was presented for general wellness examination and castration. Upon physical examination, neither testes could be palpated in the scrotum. Blood test results (complete blood cell count, serum biochemistry and electrolyte analysis) showed no remarkable findings. Radiographic and ultrasound examination did not detect the right kidney and testis in the abdominal cavity. However, we were unable to visualize the right kidney and testis in the abdominal cavity. An exploratory laparotomy for cryptorchidism revealed that although the left testis was intact, there was no right kidney, ureter and ipsilateral testis in the abdominal cavity. …

Surgical sterilization stands as a key solution to address the overpopulation of dogs and cats, with numerous influencing factors impacting the success of population control efforts, including species, gender, and financial conditions. The emergence of the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), or COVID-19, in 2020 has significantly altered human life and impacted pet animals. Lockdown restrictions were implemented in various countries, including Thailand, affecting the cumulative data of neutered animals, which was subsequently analyzed in this study. There were 337,590 dogs and cats from 2009 to 2023, and the data were systematically categorized by years, species, and gender. …

Toxicological Effects And Treatment Of Accidental Ingestion Of Simparica Trio® In Felis Catus: An Investigative Review, Aussia M. Stander

Honors Program: Senior Projects (Public)

Simparica TRIO®, a canine endectocide manufactured by Zoetis, contains sarolaner, moxidectin, and pyrantel pamoate salt in an orally administered chewable tablet. These compounds are all toxic to both cats and dogs in sufficient amounts. As Simparica TRIO® rises in popularity among pet owners, Felis catus (felines, cats) in multi-pet households (households with both cats and dogs) are at increased risk of overdosage and toxicosis from accidental ingestion of Simparica TRIO® due to their smaller weight.

Simparica TRIO® is not for feline use and little literature exists on the symptoms of and treatment for accidental ingestion …
